The cry for justice for Trayvon Martin reached Winston-Salem State March 28 as students and others from the Winston-Salem community participated in a march to bring Martins killer to justice.
A protest march started at the Clock Tower and ended at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Cromartie Street.
Participants were lined along the street waving Skittles bags.
Trayvon Martin is the inspiration for it [the march], said Larry Little, associate professor in the Department of Social Sciences.
Martin was the unarmed 17-year-old boy who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old community watch coordinator of mixed ethnic descent.
The incident occurred as Martin was walking from a convenience store Feb. 26, in Sanford, Fla.
Zimmerman told police who arrived on the scene that the shooting was self-defense.
The circumstances around Martins death have been receiving national and international attention. The issues involve Floridas Stand Your Ground Law, allegations of racial motivations, and police misconduct have triggered public demands for Zimmermans arrest, according to media reports.
People can identify [with the shooting] because he was a young man in a gated community, Little said.
We are out here because we want justice for Trayvon Martin.
Jonathan Whitfield, a junior political science major from Winston-Salem, said the protest made him more conscious of racism in America.
Many people think that racism is gone until you hear about stories like this one, Whitfield said.
For someone not to get involved and not say something is an injustice. Thats why I chose to get involved. Senior nursing major from Durham, Shaquel Williams, participated in the march with her friends.
The African-American community has experienced so many injustices, Williams said.
As an African-American woman it is my duty to come out and march for any issues concerning my race. Various campus organizations participated.
Michael Anthony, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. said that what happened to Martin unified the Greek community.
When there is an injustice like this, we have to come out and show that we [Greeks] do care about what happens, Anthony said.
Kayla Porter-Cox, a history major from Salem College, said that young African Americans get killed every day, but those events are not usually reported by the media. Porter-Cox is a Caucasian woman.
You have to stand together, she said.
Speak out, and dont let an injustice like this slow you down.
Members from the Nation of Islam were present.
Dwayne X, 39, real estate agent from Winston-Salem said that they [Nation of Islam] believe that the protest is something that should be ongoing.
Our race has been served injustice for too long, Dwayne X said.
Dwayne X said that the Nation of Islam has no plans for what they will do about the Martin case, but he said they will act when the community needs them.
Whitfield said that there should be another protest but there is no time or date set.
We are trying to figure out what else we can do for the family [Martin family], Whitfield said.
I know I will be involved in whatever we do.

Fascists.
It’s on MLK Blvd. That tells me everything I need to know.
Lemmings.
Now we know the analytical abilities (or lack thereoff) of those students.
I wonder what mamby-pamby chicken-lipped marshmallow majors they’re not studying for?
Amazing how they just can't get that prt right... footprints PROVE that much as fact.
It ws 850 feet straight home on the sidewalk... Trayvon was gone for 20 minutes when he was spotted between the houses
I've had cops tell me not to go into a certain area or neighborhood, but I did. Does that mean if I get assaulted while doing other than what they recommended to me that my right to self defense is invalid?
I just moved into a house which was burglarized six times in the past two years. I am surrounded by one sexual crimes registrant, two felons on parole, and a halfway house at the end of the block. Does that mean I cannot react with force to anyone who rapes my wife, breaks into my home, or assaults anyone in my family? Would doing so be an "injustice" when I shoot them in such a situation?
Maybe he was in the market for a townhouse, did you ever think of that?!!
and faculty
Major journalistic errors here. I'll fix some of them.
Martin was the harmless, underprivileged, unarmed 17-year-old baby boy who was on the way to Sunday school so he could teach learning challenged, gay, blind parapalegics about how to enjoy kittens, but was brutally shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old honky community watch coordinator.
Antonio or Dominique-Rogers Cromartie? And of course, the ubiquitous MLK. God forbid these blacks commemorate true intellectuals or men of accomplishment, like W.E.B. DuBois, Benjamin Banneker, or Booker T. Washington.
yeah, I can see that is possible
the 17 year olds are all talking about buying they own cribs
:)
Banneker was a mulatto.
They used to have these rallies in the Old South. But back then it was because whites heard a rumor that a black man had disrespected a white woman or something like that. A mob of Old South Democrat whites would rally for the death or jailing of the black man. It would be all emotion without any thought that the man was innocent until proven guilty. I guess everything old is new again — just as in the past, Libs/Dems have turned into a lynch mob demanding blood.
Sometimes someone comes along and reminds you that paragraphs can be your enemy.
Kinda like Atlanta with all their "Peach Tree's". I mean they even have Peach Tree-somethings that intersect with Peach Tree-something-else.

“Larry Little, associate professor in the Department of Social Sciences.”
Should be:
“Larry Little, associate professor of African-American Studies in the Department of Social Sciences.”
Big, BIG difference, isn’t it?
Word will get around.
"The year of living dangerously."
The risk of living dangerously will be universal in coverage.
This is not about “justice”, just as the attempt to use this incident for repealing “Stand Your Ground” laws is not about safety issues. When you see the big picture, it’s about stripping whites of the right to defend themselves. Who will and do get guns of all kinds in spite of any gun control law ever passed? Criminals. Who are the majority of criminals, especially in gun-related crime? Blacks. Who commits the majority of interracial crime, especially violent crime and rapes, and who are the majority of their “other race” victims? Whites. So putting these together, it’s plain to see that black criminals not only want white victims, they want the assuredness that their white victims are unarmed. Just as unarmed blacks generally attack lone or weak (elderly, disabled, children) in packs. Just as their “drive-by” shootings require nothing but a spray of bullets as they care not to target their supposed intended victim, bit any innocent people who may be in the vicinity. This is the behavior of feral pack animals.
More whites are killed every year in black-on-white crimes than were killed in the entirety of lynching in America, which also included white victims.
You are probably right.
But, I thought you were describing your current neighborhood rather than stating a hypothetical. If it's as bad as that (and I've lived in some dicey places when I was younger) I'd contemplate a move. For the moment, some places aren't as bad as others.
They already know that whites being armed “equalizes” the situation, and if a criminal hates anything, it’s the possibility that the victim is likely to fight back in such a way as to make them DEAD for their efforts. Hence the efforts to undermine our Second Amendment rights. The criminals will, as they have always done, continue to arm themselves.
We are not a governed people ruled by emotions. We are ruled by laws. The sooner all civil rights fanatics understand that, the sooner they can share in their equal protection.
Precisely.
Once I'm living there, let em come. I've got the whole place wired with cameras and silent alarm connected recorders.
Who could have picked a better case? Gun rights proponents didn’t choose this case, the left and those who want to disarm law-abiding Americans chose it. It was app a month old when the water-carrying leftist media, for reasons that would seem to help no one but Obama and his constant attempts to play the race card, especially with an election upcoming, dug it up. If this is the case which Second Amendment opponents choose to use to undermine those rights, then this is the case with which we have to oppose them. The right seemingly has no choice but to be reactive to the msm, since the left owns it. It’s not as they have any honor and will play by gentleman’s rules, the very fact that they would use this case as a weapon to undermine “Stand Your Ground” makes that clear.
Lonely are the brave. Good luck. I mean it.
Homesteading a nice place in a dangerous area is pioneering. Sometimes you are the vanguard of a neighborhood renaissance; sometimes you are an outpost against the hordes.
Their grammar is pathetic and it annoys the hell out of me!

Once I move in I'm going to borrow your phrase as a new tagline.........
outpost against the hordes.
They used bottle jacks on ours. Lifted the cages right out of the ground. A bag of concrete on each leg. I’m going with cameras and a portable livestock electric net fence strung like a tent, just inside the stockade fencing. If they jump or climb the fence, they will land in an electrified net and won’t be able to get out of it. A 6000 volt pulse every one second will keep them incapacitated.
Hmmmm....were they waving bags of candy (Skittles) or bags of Coricidin (dextromethorphine) pills (commonly known as "Skittles" in street slang).
*dextromethorphan* not dextromethorphine....sorry
>>Word will get around.<<
Many articles lately about how the Koreans defended their stores with guns — AND how the LAPD tried to disarm THE KOREANS!!
And afterwards, the Blacks may have had their VCRs flashing 12:00 but no place to buy groceries, since they burned their stores down.
And RLA never built a single market, since none would risk complete destruction (again).
And the same people, raised on welfare and schooled on how to game the system, are just waiting for a signal from their slavemasters, sharpton and jackson, to do it again. They are licking their chops and even as we post they are making their targets (God help any electronics or pawn stores in any inner city in the USA). Even Les in “Pawn Stars” will get ravaged.
Mark my words — it will happen.
My wife is a bit afraid of guns. I am taking her to the range next week and she is getting a gun — one with stopping power but not too much recoil (advice, folks?)
The winds of class warfare, fanned by eric holder, are whipping up.

>>The experts here will overwhelm you with advice ;-)<<
Thanks for pinging the list. Just got off the phone with the wife and I am pretty sure I made it past the tipping point to get armed.
I suspect the first time she shoots she’ll group well over the bullseye. She is a natural athlete with amazing control.
I am already resigned to her kicking my butt on the range, but all I care is she hits the large fleshy part of any intruder. Many times.
And I now live in Texas (from “let the bad guys win California”) — I don’t know about “stand your ground” laws here but I am damn sure about Texas’ broad interpretation of the Castle Doctrine.
Thanks in advance, bang list folks — the wife is 5’ even, a buck soaking wet but a dancer who works out 2 hours a day — strength isn’t an issue and she is no shrinking violet.
Yep. Thanks, amigo :)
Best way to get their attention would be to post an "Advice on Wife's First _____" thread and enter banglist and Texas as keywords.
