Today, Parts 1, 2 & 3.
Now that moderate former Massachusetts Governor Mitt is the presumptive Republican nominee for President, many conservatives are asking What should I do now that it looks like Republicans will not nominate a conservative candidate for President?
First, dont be Mitt Romneys cheap date.
The grassroots movement conservative voters who powered the Santorum campaign can not be taken for granted. During the 2006 congressional elections some 4 million conservative voters stayed home, producing one of the greatest defeats for the Republican Party in the modern era.
Some conservatives were quick to endorse Mitt Romney now that the nomination looks settled. They got it exactly backwards conservatives should not be rushing to embrace Romney; Romney should be rushing to embrace conservatives.
No one wants to stay home during this important election cycle, however, Mitt Romney has given little evidence he wants, and is willing to work for, conservative support.
If Mitt Romney wants the support of grassroots conservatives and Tea Partiers, the next six moves are up to him.
So far theres no new sign that a Romney administration will result in the kind of fiscally sound, constitutionally conservative government that conservatives saw coming from the other candidates in the race.
Second, redouble conservative efforts to takeover the Republican Party.
Time after time during the Republican primary election cycle grassroots conservatives and Tea Partiers saw establishment Republican Party officials put their thumb on the scale to tip the balance in Mitt Romneys favor.
To prevent this from happening again, and to build a Republican Party leadership that truly represents its conservative base, Tea Partiers and grassroots conservative activists must redouble their efforts to takeover the Republican Party.
This means running for positions in the Republican Party organization starting with precinct committeeman or woman and getting involved in the local Republican Party organization.
DID they vote for Romney?
They aren’t spilling their swill on FR!
You, on the other hand are.
At this point I’m surveying the 3rd party candidates as an independent. I left the Repug party after they nominated McAhole last time, and they have now stayed true to form and nominated yet another slimy lib. I could care less who the R VP is at this point, since a VP has no power or influence over anything that matters - especially if they’re not of like mind with a lib Prez. My vote will go to the most fiscally conservative candidate, which I can guarantee won’t have a D or R next to their name. No it’s NOT voting for Obamao, it’s voting for who I vote for, and on principle rather than as a rah-rah mindless party lemming that does what they’re told by their rich elitist masters.
“DID they vote for Romney?”
Romney has won the majority of state primaries and caucuses; I’m assuming people voted for him.
I’m simply stating a fact. A majority of GOP primary voters cast their votes for Romney. I had really hoped that Gingrich would’ve picked up steam. His ideas on energy, foreign policy, the nations courts, and his ability to dominate debates would’ve been a pure delight to behold.
There was funny business going on and Florida is a good example. The link I posted to you is a FReepers first hand account of more funny business.
I am a Conservative, and a Christian.
I cannot vote for anyone who supports abortion.
I cannot vote for anyone who has proposed or approved a health care mandate which requires me to pay for other people's abortions.
I cannot vote for either of the 'front runners'.
If the question is one of betraying God over some political snotfaces, forget it.
So I'm voting for God, and neither Obama nor Romney.
They did this, they put their god (the state) in conflict with Jesus.
My choice is clear. Neither of them will get my vote.
The GOPE have crafted this outcome because they are moving Left and must attract the Left to advance that ball. This naturally requires some useful idiots thrown into the mix also. These GOPE will pass every Marxist-socialist inclination Romney launches, because they own him and want to see him succeed, where as, Obama in a second term would be fought tooth and nail by these same players, for pushing the same or similar crap.
How do I know this?
The GOPE are seen excusing and polishing the Myth record in MA, the template for the worst of the Marxist policies now destroying the country under Obama, which the illustrious Establishment now feign to deplore.
This is where the useful idiots come in, those who will believe Romney is an alternative to Obama the Terrible, or will bring “peace and safety”. You appear to be a qualifier. Or just another Lefty?
Either way, I wouldn’t hang your head out the window here on FR.
(You’ll get bugs in your teeth, at your high rate of speed.)
That might be just slightly better than Comrade ORomney thanking me for mine. If he needs my vote in Tennessee to remain competitive, he has already lost in a landslide.
“There was funny business going on and Florida is a good example. The link I posted to you is a FReepers first hand account of more funny business.”
If this is the case, I hope that this fully investigated and names are provided. I’ll try and read up on this issue.
“During the 2006 congressional elections some 4 million conservative voters stayed home, producing one of the greatest defeats for the Republican Party in the modern era”
And gave us Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid for leadership.... nice going. So glad you showed em
Willard Mitt Romney...
Hes not a Kenyan Communist bent on destruction of the United States. Obama is. Obama is a red diaper baby. He was born a communist. He was raised a communist. He was educated communist. He is, today, a communist.
No but Willard Mitt Romney is..
Hes a Mexican Socialist bent on destruction of the United States.
He is a blue state diaper baby.
He was born a Socialist.
He was raised a Socialist.
He was educated Socialist.
He is, today, a Socialist.
The issue in Florida was that they changed the date of their primary. Before a certain date they could not be a winner take all state. The RNC broke their own rules and allowed Romney to take all. There are articles on FR.
I have to call it a night. Have a good one.
THIRD PARTY.And if you think romney has a chance in hell of beating the marxist well then you are a sheep.
If you vote for romney what are you? A sellout.
Their whores and nothing more.
Hear,hear Mountain Mary!Hear,hear!
Yes they did.Its called open primaries and the demorats voted for him.How do you like that?Lowest turnout in decades.
Youre all wet pal.The republicats screwed up in major fashion and lost our vote.Your kind of bullshit is whats wrong with the republicat party today.
I’m not going to respond to everyone individually but I will say this: When Obama is reelected President, when he increases the debt to 20 or 30 trillion and the US is forced to default on it’s loans, when we have hyperinflation robbing everyone of their earnings and their savings, when the military is finally gutted to the point where Mexico and Canada start eyeing us hungrily, when gasoline is over $10.00 a gallon because Obama will not allow new drilling or refinerys, when more and more of our major corporations move their operations overseas to escape the business hostile climate in the US are you still going to piously exclaim, “But at least I didn’t vote for that RINO Romney!”?
So you really think it will be any different under Romney?
“One last point; I find it a bit discus ting to watch several FReepers (not necessarily this thread) trash Romney as the nominee, when many of these folks joined with Politico and other Left-leaning rags in trashing our early GOP contenders. How times did i hear Freepers trashing Bachman or Santorum saying: Yep, they’re just not ready for prime time! It was shameful watching FReepers gladly join along with Politico and the many bogus allegations about Cains affairs. And now many of these folks express outrage that we’re stuck with Romney? Sorry, but these folks who helped pile onto our candidates hold at least some responsibility for where we are today. “
HEARTILY agree. I was dismayed with the circular firing squad. I entertained supporting all, ended up deciding to support Perry about a month before he dropped out. Then I switched to Newt. But I DID NOT bash the other candidates - did compare records and statements here and there, but repeatedly said I’d support whoever ended up nominated, and that all candidates were better than Obama.
Correction, I was pretty critical of Paul. But that’s all.
Obama and the rest of the Statists will NEVER destroy our Republic. What they may indeed accomplish is collapsing the Federal Parasite bureaucracies.
It's kind of comical watching Mittbots and others trying to scare Conservatives into voting for the other rabid Statist, AKA Mitt.
Mitt and the GOP-e are as big an enemy as the RATs.
Does anyone honestly believe that Mitt would do anything to turn our Republic towards Liberty?? No. He would only delay our Socialist ending.
p.s. the other side of the end game is the repudiation of government and the flowering of Liberty.
I used to say that “a no vote is a vote for” crap, too. Not this time.
The RINOs will fight Zero tooth and nail. To them it is all about spoils. The question is only who gets to spend it.
What??? To say we MUST elect conservatives to the House and Senate???? How in the hell is that wrong???
Perhaps you have responded to my post but thought of someone else’s
As to the thought experiment—— they are always interesting -—but they are after all just experiments
“Please enjoy our forum, but also please remember to use common courtesy when posting and refrain from posting personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, threats, racial or religious bigotry, or any other materials offensive or otherwise inappropriate for a conservative family audience”
Just a reminder of what the policy is here at FR.
Conservatives should try to form a new party if they can no longer take over over the republican party effectively. But I think for now trying to get into the system is what should be done. However, the GOP might be close to collapse at the rate it is going.
We should have had Romney laughed off stage from the start. Sadly, too many people in primary state up in the northeastern states are poisoned into thinking he was electable and he is not.
TO me the republican establishment have done a disservice promoting Romney who is so polarizing and confusing to pin down as to what he will do if elected that he has become poison for the party and a bridge too far for most.
So now we have a lot of other problems to deal with aside from Obama. The GOP seems to have been infiltrated by liberals. Reagan would be attacked by them in today’s GOP like Palin, Newt, Bachmann, Cain and DeMint are attacked by the GOP-E daily.
Hell, they did attack Reagan anyhow back in the day. But now they wouldn’t have let him get nominated like 1980.
If there is any luck they will get eaten by an Indonesian. Getting whacked in the head while riding atop Romney's car has obviously caused severe brain damage.
What a silly argument. You vote for who you vote for. The fact that the Republican Party has nominated a pandering blue blood liberal to lead their party tells you all you need to know about the GOP. I won't support that clown.
Spent most of my adulthood volunteering and contributing to the Republican Party, but the nomination of this pandering blue blood liberal is more then I can take. The Republican Party is the Democrat Party, a party I will no longer support.
“So you really think it will be any different under Romney?”
Absolutely. Romney wasn’t raised a Communist. He doesn’t hate the United States and wan’t to turn it into a Third World nation.
We learned in 2010 - the GOP establishment EXPECTS conservatives to rush to their nominee when their milquetoast guy wins, BUT the GOP establishment did not rush to conservative candidates who won primaries fair and square. Ask Alaskans and Delaware residents.
So now, you are doing exactly as Team Mitt has said all along - “the base will come around”. Not me! Not this time!
I will not be taken for granted by the establishment anymore. I refuse to be their prison bitch when they have no intention of supporting my principles. So don’t tell me that my refusing to vote for a liberal is somehow helping the other liberal in the race.
What? You can speak in regular ol language rather than attempting to sound scholarly. It's really ok.
Means the same thing.
As far as "attempting to sound scholarly" goes I'm not attempting.
File under, “When ‘Keepin’ It Real’ Goes Wrong.”
The only three real and lifelong Republicans in the race were, in fact, Santorum, Gingrich and Caine. All those other guys were there just to make Romney look good (although I must say Huntsman did a better job of representing Mormon traditions of politeness and good humor than did the apostate Romney).
Now there ya go again. Dude, speak Texan for me will ya?
I’mma just a raggin on ya. That's Texan for kidding around.
God bless your day
Checking your etch-a-sketch talking points again, I see....
I'm sure it now says that Romney is not a scorched-earth, liberal, democrat gone "R".....
....And that skittles taste good when they shoot out unicorns butts. I'll bet Santa would be so proud of the research you have done on your "conservative" candidate.
The policies he supported and implemented would be applauded by the Communist Party. Mitt greatly increased government in MA.
He doesnt hate the United States and want to turn it into a Third World nation
Mitt's actions in government shows that he has very little respect for our Constitution. Mitt's actual record is one of a hard-core Statist. Mitt's policies, if carried out nationwide would lead us to decay into a Third World nation.
Mitt worships at the Alter of State Power. The last time I checked, Communists worship at the Alter of State Power.
Mitt, like the Communists has very little respect for Individual rights. Mitt like Communists has a very strong Collectivists streaks.
It is pathetic how any Conservative can twist his principles and vote for Mitt.
The destination with Mitt is exactly the destination with Obama. A vote for either is a vote for Socialism.
My vote will go to the candidate [if any] that wants
1] Constitutional Congress formal declaration of war before bombing another country.
2] Will restore the job’s economy by making what we consume.
3] Return Roe v Wade to the States.
A lot of you flat out don’t know what you’re talking about. A lot are buying far right anti-Mitt propaganda without bothering to check it yourself. Romney had a hostile 85% Democrat state legislature in MA to contend with. Despite that MA was in better financial state when he left than when he took office.
Do your own reseach. Start here:
Yeah, you can say he’s lying but I can agree with most of his published positions.
I really can’t believe how many rational and intelligent, although maybe that’s where I am going wrong, claimed conservatives honestly think there would be no difference between a Romney or an Obama presidency.
Romney will be the Republican candidate. If the choice were a moderate Democrat or Romney I might be tempted to abstain but that’s not the choice. This may be the most important election any of us vote in.
I am going to support Romney with my vote, donate more money to his campaign, and campaign for him. Hopefully there will be enough conservatives and Republicans out there who can see what we face in Obama to elect Romney in November.
You expressed that perfectly. I’m with you.
