Latasha Jackson pleads guilty in child care fraud case

The woman who built a mansion in Menomonee Falls and bought a Jaguar while collecting roughly $3 million in taxpayer subsidies from her Milwaukee child care centers pleaded guilty in federal court Friday.

Latasha Jackson, who now is listed as Latasha Wilder, had admitted to committing fraud, theft and conspiracy. She faces up to 35 years in prison, but is likely to get far less time under federal guidelines. Sentencing is Aug. 31.

Jackson, 34, admitted she defrauded state and federal programs designed to help poor mothers go to work.

Regulators ignored red flags for 10 years that she could be cheating the system, the Journal Sentinel's " Cashing in on Kids" investigation found.

Prosecutors will argue that Jackson should be ordered to pay $333,000 in restitution. Jackson's attorney, Rodney Cubbie, told Chief U.S. District Judge Charles Clevert he would dispute the amount, which also could affect how much prison time Jackson receives.

"It has been my experience that they just kind of guess at some of these numbers," Cubbie said, referring to state officials who provided the fraud figures.

Jackson's center, Latasha's Learning Enterprise, was shut down in 2007 because she beat her nephew with a belt...

And how many years in prison did the "regulators" get for sitting on their asses and not doing their job?

Federal sentencing guidlines should include an option for the Judge to impose death by flamethrower.

My first thought, too. But, of course we all know that the regulators involved will suffer nothing more than being moved to a new department to keep feeding at the trough until it's pension time.

Child care fraud is rampant and little is done to combat it. It is especially pervasive within some illegal communities. For example - two sisters each have three kids. They each become licensed by the state and get paid to watch each others kids. Some of their kids stay at more than one daycare facility daily, but the auditors are not allowed to cry foul because that might be racist. Besides, with illegals nobody really knows if the kids are here or in another country. I don’t even know if they verify that they exists in the first place!

When the state makes payments directly to child care facilities with little or no oversight this is what you get. If the parents were given the money to pay the child care facility directly many would squander it on other things.

Government needs to get out of the child care business. I recently interviewed a gal who had no job and was on SSI disability as well as the usual welfare bennies. She drops her two kids off every day at state funded daycare so she can “look for a job”.

I doubt she will ever find that job when she is out hustling to get high. This is what we subsidize. At least the kids probably have a better go of it at the daycare facility.

They are not allowed to do their jobs because of political correctness. Most of the managers in state social services are red diaper doper babies.

If it’s a Christian based daycare they would probably go after it enthusiastically. If it’s a minority owned daycare they are told to look elsewhere. That is what the investigators will tell you.

There are also very very few investigators in the government handout agencies. Most of the workforce gives out the stuff because it is self-preservation for the agency.

I know all of this for a fact based on my experience in law enforcement. I had a crack dealer once who was on SSI disability for a bad back. We videotaped him selling drugs and in the middle of it he got a whole pallet of concrete mix. He carried the bags two at a time down hill behind his house only stopping to sell some dope. Pretty impressive for a bad back would’nt you say?

I tried to call the state investigator for SSI fraud. He said they could not do anything about it. I got the impression that there were two fraud investigators for the entire state.

We had a gal who billed state Medicare/Medicaid for over 50 fraudulent pain pill prescriptions using other persons identities and forged prescriptions. The state paid for all of them. Nobody to investigate although she was prosecuted locally. I bet she is still on Medicare today and probably doing the same thing or some other scam.

Real stories and it continues today. The fraud in welfare programs of every type is far bigger than most people realize. It’s across the board... hospitals, doctors, medical clinics, home health care, medical supplies, and many individuals you see in your every day life.

The little mom and pop groceries jack up the price of candy and other non-nutritious foods that people frequently buy with their EBT card. Don’t believe me? Go look for yourself sometime and see.

There is little to no oversight. They don’t even monitor or profile for fraud using computer systems because they know the truth would place them in jeopardy.
