New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan has called for a compassionate immigration reform in the United States. Referring to the controversial immigration laws in Arizona and Alabama which allow law enforcement to check on the status of suspected illegal immigrants, he said that it was “not Christian” and “not American”.

The Irish American Cardinal, who could be in line for the position of Pope in the future, was speaking to Chris Jansing, on MSNBC’s “Jansing & Co”.

He said the Republican party must “come up with a much saner, more civil, more just immigration policy.”

Dolan continued, “When you have a policy that splits up families, when you have a policy that drives people underground, when you have a policy where now the government, whether it be in Arizona or Alabama, is asking our soup kitchens to ask for documentation before they give people food or housing or clothing or medical care, that’s not right. That’s not Catholic. That’s not Christian. That’s not religious. And it’s not American

I notice he uses policies, instead of laws.America has a God given right to check the status of suspected illegal immigrants in this country, the church should stop making it sound like the illegals are above the laws.I never the hear Catholic Bishops, indicate just what laws do they think should apply to illegals ?How about document fraud for an example ? How many strangers do Catholic Bishops, think should we welcome ? Already , we have over 12 million strangers. Americans are experiencing extreme hardships , with lost of jobs, homes, savings, we are trillions in debt. I wish these Catholic Bishops, would understand we cannot be the worlds HMO anymore.

Catholic Bishops should solve the problem in their Church’s(and God knows they have enough of them) and leave the problem of illegals to those who know what illegals are doing to our economy.

Has he never read the Biblical verses admonishing believers to respect the civilian authority? It’s not like the government is rounding up and killing or torturing these illegals. A nation has a right to have borders, doesn’t it?

Is Dolan a charter member of the CPUSA?

If one judges people by their desires, one would think that this guy is an anti-American communist.

He wants us to forget for a moment that all the illegal aliens have home countries somewhere else. At the same time he wants us to think we are responsible for other country's citizenry.

A plane ticket home is about as kindly as I can put it.

Yesterday DC City council was reported to have come up with $20 million to provide medical insurance for their 20,000 illegal aliens.

That's $1000 per person per year.

A First Class ticket home, nonstop, is $929.

Are Dolan's papers in order?

Damned Church crapolas. This why I left over 40 years ago because they had started sticking their damned noses into politics.

It’s pretty obvious that the Catholic Church is more interested in staying alive by guaranteeing themselves future devotees from the illegals than from what should be their primary mission of saving souls.

Maybe he could point to another nation whose immigration laws he thinks we should emulate?

Good points, the “Church” should be focused on taking care of the folks in their home countries/parishes.

I think you are right on this one. How can our country survive if we do not care who comes in, what they do, and what they take. That is insane policy. Even the church, every church, takes into consideration who their members are, what those members do, and how they represent their congregations. Otherwise, the supposed congregants can change and subvert the message of the church. It is the same for countries. I am certain most of the leaders in the government of Mexico would claim to be Catholic, but where is the humanity for those who are their illegally or non citizens that commit some petty crime and are thrown in a hell hole jail or prison? Arizona and Alabama are trying to solve a problem.

I'm Catholic and quite in favor of the Church's teachings about compassion.

But Dolan is and was publicly in favor of "universal health care", and spoke nary a word of warning about what we all knew Obama are would bring with it. And now he's accumulating political capital by "speaking out" about the "evil mandates" as if he's the prophet Jeremiah.

He's a politician, is what he is, and either he's sublime to the point of being mysterious or he speaks out of both sides of his mouth.

Dolan said the Republican party must “come up with a much saner, more civil, more just immigration policy.”

Why doesn’t someone define the Democrat immigration policy for us sometime? It seems to be the policy we have been following for quite a few years and it seems neither civil or sane to me.

Who may come to the table is a really big deal in Christianity. The Cardinal certainly can’t plead ignorance of the concept.

Actually, Timmy, the Arizona law mimics feral law, except that the feral government has decided that it can selectively enforce laws passed by Congress depending upon how it "feels" about them.
