the main oppression an indian faces today is that the reservation is a large socialist collective. The cannot own a patch of land,, buy and sell their home, etc. A business cannot build a location there. Walmart couldnt build a store there unless they were happy to build it on land someone else owned.
So no jobs.
On most reservations,,liquor is illegal.
The indian today is living the full dream of socialism,, that is their problem.
I agree many tribes have been devastated by U.S. government paternalism. But quite a few have found the path to unbridled capitalist prosperity with casinos and smoke shops.
