On Friday, legal scholar and criminal defense attorney Alan Dershowitz joined journalist and author Bernie Goldberg on Fox News Channels America Live with Megyn Kelly to discuss the ongoing trial of George Zimmerman for the murder of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Dershowitz and Goldberg said that the New York Times and Florida prosecutor Angela Cory had irresponsibly furthered a narrative of Zimmermans guilt when it appears that he acted in a manner consistent with self-defense.
Dershowitz, who had previously been highly critical of the decision to indict Zimmerman for second degree murder, doubled down on his criticism and included some media organizations for hyping the case.
Dershowitz said that Cory, who handed down the Zimmerman indictment without the input of a grand jury, raised expectations by politically indicting Zimmerman for second degree murder when there was never any basis.
He went on to say that the media has largely changed their tune on the facts of the case, with the notable exception of the New York Times.
The New York Times still reports as if the evidence is overwhelming that Zimmerman is guilty. Indeed, they end a story in todays newspaper shockingly by quoting an unnamed source that made a phone call to police alleging that Zimmerman may have some racist tendencies. That violates the Times own policy about sourcing. They would never have written such a statement about an un-sourced allegation by an unnamed person regarding Trayvon Martin. The Times has a position on this case, and it allows that position to influence its reporting.
Kelly asked Goldberg why the media was so invested in Zimmermans guilt. Goldberg said that the storyline fit neatly into a liberal media narrative of persistent white racism against African Americans. He said that a number of individuals employed irresponsible hyperbole when discussing the details of this case before it went to trial.
There was the black Congresswoman from Florida who said Trayvon was hunted down like a rabid dog. There was the white Congresswoman from Illinois who said his death was a modern day lynching. There was the black Congressman from Georgia who said he was executed executed because he was walking while black in a gated community. Then there was the New York Times that gave valuable op-ed space to an author who said Trayvon Martin was shot dead in cold blood.
Goldberg said that the Times had also employed the description of Zimmerman as a white Hispanic to further the narrative that the alleged killer of Trayvon Martin was a white person. He said that if it was simply a Hispanic, the Times would have thought that wouldnt be interesting.
Dershowitz took exception to Goldbergs characterization of the problem of reporting around the Martin killing as being a liberal vs. conservative issue.
Im a liberal, said Dershowitz. I know that the evidence seems to corroborate much of Zimmermans story.
Dershowitz concluded by levying harsh criticism of Floridas law enforcement and agreed with Goldberg that this indictment was handed down in part because of the irrational media coverage of this incident. Dershowitz went further and said that Cory helped to create the hysteria.
She was appointed to stop race riots. That was her job. And as she put it, to do justice to Trayvon Martin. Not to do justice to George Zimmerman, not to do justice period. Just to do justice to the alleged victim in this case. She has a terrible reputation in Florida for always over-charging, and she was picked specifically for that No jury except one frightened that the New Black Panthers might kill them if they vote for an acquittal or that they might cause race riots no fair jury would find anyone guiltily here of second degree murder.

Really? Into hyperbole today? You only trivialize the evil of those regimes.
I'm thinking, I'm thinking....
Piles of dead bodies!
Nope, they have those out back of abortion clinics.
I give up. What?
If I was forced onto this “jury”, I’d definitely be packing “heat”.
What Good Can a Handgun Do Against An Army?
In the regimes you mention, the government controlled the mob.
In this case, you have government officials making decisions because of fear of the mob.
I’ll expand Dershowitz’s case a little- you might vote to convict if you were afraid of being the cause for a burn-half-a-city riot.
Survivors take care of their own; buzzards take care of the rest.
M1 Garand and lots of loaded ammo clips. Clean & ready.
“....Unless Afraid Black Panthers Might Kill Them”
We can expect the same kind of jury intimidation in the future when we start putting muslim terrorists on public trial.
Military court martial is the answer.
TheSanford police may fearamob, I think Obama is praying for race riots this summer so he can use race to run on again.
"So what's the real difference between us nowadays and Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany or North Korea?"
They are not yet rounding up state enemies by the thousands, and putting them into "relocation camps."
But they did just buy those umpteen million .40 caliber hollowpoints....
I think it's deeper than that. Greece is about to implode, as in, no fuel for police or military, total breakdown, Katie bar the door. Refugees, neighboring states moving in to "restore order," who the hell knows.
So an economic contagion follows bank runs nation by nation to the USA.
Then Zimmerman is acquitted and the cities burn, with "shoot on sight" racial drive-bys etc etc. IOW, a full-on race war, flames fanned by the MSM and Obama.
Well, I'm thinking, how could you have "normal elections" this November, against the world busting apart at the seams?
Lenin said, "The worse, the better."
First rate interview.
From what he knows at this point, Zimmerman is entitled to perfect self defence, so said, Alan Dershowitz.
He’ll pull out all the stops, “if” we have an election.
Your graphic is fabulous!
People and their blind spots are truly amazing. I wonder how Dersh explains their reporting?
While very subtle, this is another example of cluelessness on the writers part. Usually the term "double down" is used as a way to bluff or dig ones heels in on an untenable position. Alan Dershowitz is "doubling down" on a position that he wishes to he could raise by a factor of 1000 because his original position is now completely validated by this new evidence.
These "professional" writers are so freaking pathetic.
And I keep thinking about picking up a .40 handgun. I'd have a good idea where a ready supply of ammo might be if the SHTF and the thugs come cruising.
