Environmentalism and saving the world are almost exclusively preoccupations of the left. Outwardly they are noble pursuits, and yet they have always smelt a bit rotten. In order to find the source of the odor it is necessary to look beneath the surface and understand what is going on at the psychological level when someone takes up these causes. Clues are few and far between, so when you find something in the press that hints at a deeper malaise, its worth looking at it very closely.
The following comment by English journalist Geoffrey Wheatcroft is one such. He said:
The great twin political problems of the age are the brutality of the right and the dishonesty of the left.
By far the more straightforward of the two is the brutality of the right and it can be explained by pretty much any of us. For example if I were to summarise my approach to life it would go something like this: Normally I try to treat other people with respect, but essentially I am selfish and that is what normally guides my actions. I dont think there is anything wrong with that. In essence thats it the brutality of the right flows from our selfishness. Most of you will relate.
Its Wheatcrofts second problem that is the clue to what is wrong with environmentalism that we really want to look at. If we drill down into what is meant by the dishonesty of the left we eventually come to the concept of pseudo-idealism. Pseudo-idealism is not real idealism, its feel-good selfishness masquerading as idealism. The vast majority of environmentalists belong to this camp: they preach their cause not from a genuine concern for the environment, but from a genuine concern for feeling good about themselves.

The clown’s sign is incomplete. It should say
CLIMATE CHANGE IS NO JOKE-
IT’S A LIE
“The great twin political problems of the age are the brutality of the right and the dishonesty of the left.”
This is the most asinine and ignorant statement I’ve read in a long, long time.
The brutality of the right??? Does he mean Stalin, Mao, Hitler, the Khmer Rouge, Castro, North Korea...?
And he uses that statement as the foundation of his idiotic thesis? When it comes to brutality AND dishonesty, the left has a monopoly on both.
“For example if I were to summarise my approach to life it would go something like this: Normally I try to treat other people with respect, but essentially I am selfish and that is what normally guides my actions. I dont think there is anything wrong with that. In essence thats it the brutality of the right flows from our selfishness.”
This is really quite putrid. Seems like each assertion in this article is worse than the previous.
So the right is selfish and the left is not? We are all selfish - there isn’t one of us that doesn’t look out for his own interests first and foremost - whatever they may be.
The evironazis are as driven by their self interests as those that oppose them. Where they’ve been successful is in bamboozling the people into believing that they are the protectors of mother earth, and that therefore they’re are the moral, unselfish ones. In reality, they are as selfish as the worst of the robber barons. Their selfish motives consist of protecting their own precious sensibilities above those of others.
So, for example, their sensibilities are violated at the thought of drilling in ANWR, even if they have no idea of what it is or what it looks like. And thus, they fight as hard to insure that their sensibilities are not hurt as any oil executive fights for the opportunity to drill.
It is with that holier than thou attitude that they ban DDT at the cost of millions of human lifes, or fight the modernization of Africa while watching millions of kids starve.
Not only are they selfish, but their selfishness is a sick type of selfishness, it is anti-human and self hating, but, to their credit, they’ve been able to camouflage it... at least up to now.
