Barack Obama is one of history's three greatest political leaders with Irish ancestry, according to an international poll.
John F Kennedy, however, is voted the greatest such leader, ahead of Ronald Reagan second and Obama third, in an online poll of over 4,000 Americans and Britons conducted by YouGov for the genealogy site findmypast.com and its Irish partner, findmypast.ie.
Che Guevara, the Latin American revolutionary who also had Irish roots, ranks fourth.
"The most surprising people turn out to have Irish ancestry," says Cliona Weldon, spokesperson for findmypast.ie, which marks its first birthday this month.
The findmypast poll asked respondents in the U.S. and UK to pick from a list of 10 political leaders who had won prominence in countries beyond Irish shores - in short, in the Irish diaspora....

As an American whose ancestors are 100% Irish I spit on Barack Obama. He is neither Irish or American. F him and who ever the moron is who wrote this garbage.
“Barack Obama is one of history’s three greatest political leaders”
It’s a good thing I don’t believe that the Antichrist will be a U.S. President. He must come from the Romans, who destroyed the city and the sanctuary, according to the prophet Daniel.
Because when I read garbage like this, the lies told about him and the lies he tells, it is painfully idiotic.
What you said!!!
Amen, FRiend! I’m not 100% - have some Scottish as well - all Celtic! That Toom Tabard usurping the Office of POTUS can kiss my Royal Irish ass!
Could you read long enough to see this??
“Che Guevara, the Latin American revolutionary who also had Irish roots, ranks fourth.”
Wouldn’t you LOVE to see the people who were polled for this?
Morons all.
Che Guevara, the Latin American revolutionary who also had Irish roots, ranks fourth. There it is.
So, the Greates Politician's List was predetermined, only the ranking was determined by the findmypast participants. Here, I thought it was going to say the Poll was conducted by random Participants at Drunken O'Malley's Irish Pub.
JFK a great leader? Did he do something that history hasn’t noted?
He died so that LBJ could enact Medicaid and the rest of the Great Society!! What are you, homeschooled or a parochial school graduate? Weren’t you indoctrinated properly?
Sir/Madam, I could barely get beyond the title. Irish my foot! Bloody Marxist bastard he is, sure ‘n’ t’hell! T’is true, “T’IS!!
Along those same lines, I could ask a Poll Question:
Of the following, which would you serve as a dessert at your dinner party?
1. Moon Pie
2. Hostess Twinkies
3. Tastee Kakes
4. Zingers
5. Mini Honey Buns
6. Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies
7. Junior’s New York Cheesecake
8. Nabisco Fig Newtons
9. Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food Ice Cream
10. Pepperidge Farm Triple Layer Chocolate Cake
I can pretty much guess that #’s 7,9, and 10 will be the top picks. I spit upon their rigged poll..
Aye! Pog ma hone Obama, bloody Marxist bastard!
Thanks, good on ya!
Well, I did know about the 50 mile hike fad he started and the barefoot family foot ball games on the beach...
” He must come from the Romans, who destroyed the city and the sanctuary,”
The Legions that destroyed the city and sanctuary were actually local auxiliaries, not Romans. The Empire survived in the East for a thousand years after the city of Rome fell; Constantine had moved the capital of the Empire from Rome to Constantinople years before.
We think of the Eastern Empire as ‘Byzantium’, but in fact it was the direct continuation of the Roman state.
They spelled it wrong.
It’s Chae McGuevara...
;’)
And the city I was referring to is ... ?
(just checking to see what you thought I was saying)
“after the city of Rome fell”
It was not Rome to which I was referring.
First thing Monday morning I’m going to find a mad scientist who can totally rearrange my DNA.
Maybe after the top two, they went for notorious. “There is no bad publicity,” right?
My ancestors were basically German with enough Irish thrown in to make the stubborn interesting. So I was told growing up.
My best friend in grade school was a kid whose dad was Irish and Mexican descent and his mom was Mexican and Apache. But I recall a bit where the Irishman prays God would make his enemies his friend and if He could not he asks God to cause his enemy to limp so he could see him coming.
hahaha, I think you and I are related!
You see, their memories don’t got back very far.
What about Parnell?
“And the city I was referring to is ... ??”
...not a mystery to anyone familiar with Dispensational eschatology. With that in mind one needs to consider who was responsible for the destruction of Jerusalem. It’s not entirely clear cut, since the Legions involved were led by Roman generals but the legionnaires themselves were non-Roman auxiliaries. Moreover Josephus writes that Titus ordered that the Temple be spared, but the legionnaires burned it anyway.
If you pick the Romans since they were in charge of the war, you still can’t assume that the future ruler predicted by Daniel would come from the peoples of western Europe. This is because Rome was replaced as the capital of the Empire in AD 330. The west faded and crumbled while the Empire survived in the east for another thousand years. So Daniel’s future leader could rise from the ashes of the Roman Empire and yet belong to an eastern Mediterranean and North African consortium of peoples.
“So Daniels future leader could rise from the ashes of the Roman Empire and yet belong to an eastern Mediterranean and North African consortium of peoples.”
I don’t necessarily disagree with you on that.
