The Great Ronald Reagan, who carried 44 states in 1980 and 49 states in 1984 could probably get elected today so-called Republican Colin Powell, who endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 says in an interview with Jay Leno. Powell also believes to get anything done today, we must compromise. 'we must listen to the other guy'...not attack. (2 videos)

The only people challenged to be able to do so are Mitt Romney, John Huntsman, or Ron Paul.
Most breeds of dogs could defeat him.
Colin Powell “probably” couldn’t get elected if he ran in 1980!
Mitt Romney would have Reagan destroyed if he were running today.
In case anyone was wondering what our dimwitted Affirmative Action hero had to say.
Powell is a back stabber, the only reason he hasn’t endorsed
bam yet is because he’s hawking a book. He talks about “compromise” in politics, the RATS don’t compromise it’s always their way or the highway. Let’s hope if the pubbies ever get control they take a lesson from the RATS.......doubtful.
Colin Powell is proof that affirmative action does not work.
Colin Powell: A tan John McCain.
Colin ‘probably’ is suffering from some liberal disease or wants to be relevant in saying something outlandish.
Colin Powell living proof that God has a sense of humor
This whole idea of compromise and being bipartisan has only arisen after the Reps got control of the House in 2010. Before that, no mention despite the fact that the Dems shoved Obamacare down our throat without a single Rep vote and passed the Porkulous bill with one Rep vote.
General Powell is a. racist and a coward. See the knives in McCain and Scooter Libby’s backs respectively.
Who let him out?
Bozo the Clown could get elected if he were running today.
What Powell is saying is nonsense. In this country you can vote if you’re dead, but you can’t run for office if you’re dead.
The names of President Ronald Reagan and the former ‘Republican’, Colin Powell, should not be mentioned in the same breath. It is an insult to Reagan’s memory to do so.
Not that I really knew who he was before that, but that was my first impression, further reinforced by his treatment in "The Commanders" by Bob Woodward.
Idon’t give a good healthy dump what Colon Powell has to say.
He has used up his credibility.
That’s not true. The dead governor of Missouri defeated John Ashcroft for the US Senate seate in 2000.
All it takes is the 4 magic words “There he goes again....”.
That guy was a pip.
You know he is voting Obozo again anyway.
Pray for America
Powell, on his book tour, made the following comments on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” to host Joe Scarborough:
“And sometimes they (neoconservatives) might be in a position to make judgments or recommendations to the candidate that should get a second thought. For example, when Gov. Romney not too long ago said the Russian federation is our number one geostrategic threat.”
“C’mon, Mitt — think! That isn’t the case. And I don’t know whether Mitt really feels that or — It’s been catching a lot of heck from regular GOP foreign affairs community. We were kind of taken aback by it. Look at the world. There is no pure competitor to the United States of America.”
This tells me that Powell is working to disarm the American electorate from the fact that Zer0 is doing a horrendous job in foreign affairs. He is working for the DemonRATs.
Powell and Meghan McCain our two biggest hemorrhoids.
But they and the rest of their Left leaning pals couldn't stand up to true Conservatism (AKA Classical Liberalism) once the Nation experienced it again, dare I say it lasted all the way up until 2008 (or 06 if you want to count the Congressional elections). Even once Clinton got in, the people sent in a Repub congress that kept him occupied so he could do as little as damage as possible.
So Colin, now that we have suffered under your hand picked candidate. I do think that a Ronald Reagan could be elected too. (if only Romney wasn't the worst parts of Nixon and Carter put together)
Agreed. His flip-flopping on DADT and gay marriage have done even more damage, as far as I’m concerned.
Thank you for your service, General. Now go play with your Volvos.
I strongly disagree with Powell. “Ronald Reagan WOULD Get Elected If He Were Running Today”.
General Powell does not owe his stars to affirmative action. By all indicators I have seen following him for many years, he was an excellent combat commander, well liked by his men, respected by his superiors, honest and plain spoken.
As Commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the First Gulf War, he did an excellent job of communicating not only with the troops and the government, but in making the war aims understandable while fostering patriotic endeavor among the citizenry.
Is there anyone here who cannot remember his clear, frank and above all concise explanations of that era? "Our strategy to go after this army is very, very simple. First we're going to cut it off, and then we're going to kill it."
Let's not forget that in 1996, Conservatives across the nation -- I included -- were practically on hands and knees begging Powell to run for the Republican nomination, and if he had, he would have been a virtual shoo-in.
And let me go further.
Up until the day, the nano-second, when he announced his support for Obama, Colin Powell was one of the most respected names in the Republican Party and most of us -- again, including myself -- would have walked barefoot over hot coals for a chance to shake his hand.
OK. Times change. We find now his social positions and opinions are (or maybe never were) precisely in line with the values we hold as strict Conservatives. Why didn't we find out about that sooner? Because when he served as a soldier, then as Secretary of State, he supported his boss's position because that is what he swore to do and the man takes his oaths seriously.
He endorsed Obama. Ugh. He now supports gays in the military and gay marriage. I don't. Fine. Go ahead and blast him for that. He's a private citizen now, entitled to his opinions, just as we are entitled to disagree with them.
But to insinuate that he owes anything in his life to affirmative action is denigrate an undeniably stellar career, an absolutely first class mind, and an eminently honorable man.
Statements like yours make Free Republic and Conservatives seem every bit as racist as the Democrats say we are.
Wow! I hit a nerve.
What a load of BS you just dumped.
Big deal, you think the world of an Obama voting democrat.
Your judgement and take on people is evidently useless.
The Republican Party made this man famous and the first time a socialist democrat half black man runs for President he’s all in.
We now know what this man is made of.
Colin Powell is a liberal or moderate Republican who is pro-choice regarding abortion, supports affirmative action and “reasonable” gun control. Although Powell is against gay marriage, he supports and helped craft the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the United States military, along with Bill Clinton. He has also been critical of the current policy in Iraq. In 2005, Powell telephoned two Senator’s, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska (also liberal Republicans) asking them to oppose the nomination of John R. Bolton as ambassador to the United Nations. In September 2005, Powell criticized the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina. He also opposed Guantanamo Bay and stripping Geneva Convention protections from captured terrorists. Powell was mentioned as a potential running mate for John McCain, but said he was no longer interested in elected office.
It’s going to be fun watching Romney and his people kissing Powell’s arse for a fleeting endorsement, again.
