The Obama Administration has arranged to providefree of chargeseveral customized special-operations military vessels to the Government of Kenya, U.S. Trade & Aid Monitor has learned. Finalization of those plans came exactly one week prior to todays explosion in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi.
Although officially it remains unclear whether the blast was the result of a utility problem or the work of terrorists, Reuters reports that a witness saw a man place a suspicious package in business-district building right before the explosion.
The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command is awarding a noncompetitive sole-source contract to United States Marine Incorporated (USMI) of Gulfport, Miss to provide five (5) 11M Naval Special Warfare Rigid Inflatable Boats, according to a presolicitation notice that NAVSEA upload to a federal contracting database May 21.

Thank goodness we’ve found a good use for our budget surplus.
Wait, you mean we don’t have a surplus and our borrowing money to give away to other countries?
What could possibly go wrong?
Why Kenya, of all places?
Because they could sell the boats on the black market and make a lot of money?
Oh, Barry was born there according to his bio. Don’t tell anybody. They will call you crazy.
Preezy Choom B is outfitting his home country quite nicely.
They’re getting these from Obama? So this must mean that Obama is reimbursing the US Treasury out of his own pocket for these gifts to his homeland.
5 of 'em, right?
One for each member including BO
Gotta protect the Kenyan shores from Jerome Corsi and any other subversives who might come ashore after BO’s Kenyan birth certificate.
Oh, wait a minute...
Did GWB do these type of things also???
where does Obama’s power stop???
WHY DO WE PAY FOR AND HAVE A CONGRESS?
NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: The reference to Kenya as “the former home nation” of President Obama has been removed. The Monitor acknowledges this lapse in judgment, and intends to
Let me get this straight we gave them inflatable combat boats which to them would amount to rubber ducks in a bathtub and it makes news ?
I wonder if you can still get those ww 2 Willy’s surplus jeeps or maybe some fallout shelter 1920’s tins of survival hard candy if you can would it be worthy of the media’s scrutiny ?
Now if we were giving away WMD’s it would be worthy of print but this media would never touch it with a ten foot pole unless of course a Real American President were in the white house then it would be a full blown front page spread with 10 pages of following script ....And of course it would be all bad real or made up !
Having had the great pleasure of working with the Kenyan Navy as an advisor, I find this of no big deal. They will likely be able to handle their duties. Question is how are they planning to deploy these fairly small craft.
Could be worse. Over the years we have taken a basic sheep herder and stuck him in the seat of a $30 Mil, Mach 1.6, jet aircraft and expected him to get it off the ground and return in one piece.
Congrats to the folks over at USMC Gulport. They are a respected small boat builder. Saved several peoples jobs....
“free of charge”????
Preparing for exile I see
Could be that it is another payment for shutting off any and all inquiries as to Obama’s birth. This could be an ongoing game by Kenya. It fits into the incidents of sending two cargo ships to Kenya for relief purposes. One was hijacked for a few days but the Seals came to the rescue/recovery. How long will this hush money from USA taxpayers go on so as to provide booty for another African swindle operation?
Free of charge to whom? Certainly not to my tax dollar.
Uh oh, now you’ve gone and done it. Someone who actually knows what they are talking about has posted on a thread. Don’t you know you’re supposed to reply with an ill-informed rant to an inflammatory article? Your reply is going to be ignored if it isn’t.
Anway, the other point is, it’s getting tiresome (and counterproductive) that things that have been routinely done by the US government (and the Bush Administration) are presented as sinister new Obama initiatives. THey aren’t helpful or persuasive arguments and make Obama opponents look dumb.
“The Pentagon gave Kenya $1.6 million worth of weaponry and other military assistance in 2006 and an estimated $2.5 million in 2007 through its Foreign Military Sales Program. In 2008 the Bush Administration expects to provide Kenya with $800,000 in Foreign Military Financing Program funds to pay for further arms purchases. Kenya has also been permitted to make large arms deals directly with private American arms producers through the State Departments Direct Commercial Sales Program. Kenya took deliver of $1.9 million worth of arms this way in 2005, got an estimated $867,000 worth in 2007, and is expected to receive another $3.1 million worth this year.
In addition, the Bush Administration intends to spend $550,000 in 2008 to train Kenyan military officers in the United States through the International Military Education and Training Program at military academies and other military educational institutions in the United States.”
Routinely, of course. Just like every President since the Cold War.
All sorts of military items have been provided free of charge to Third World allies since World War II.
Even the idea that Obama even KNOWS about this is silly, much less it being a sinister Obama plot. Giving 5 inflatable boats with a small outboard to a country never makes it to the President's agenda.
Well, that’s one costly method to keeping his Kenyan history sealed just a little bit longer . . .at least until after 2012 election cycle. God only knows what it will cost this nation, should the current occupant of the oval office succeed in gaining a second term.
I wish someone would explain to me where this guy has the power to give anything to anybody. If he wanted to give AF One to Kenya, would that be okay? How ‘bout giving some government buildings away in a lottery to raise some campaign money? Does this guy OWN this country?
Is he planning his getaway?
“WHY DO WE PAY FOR AND HAVE A CONGRESS?”
So that Wall Street will have someone to pay off?
Strategerist, your points are well-taken. While this is an otherwise thoroughly researched article, certainly I could have tied it into the context of today’s blast without hinting at a mini-version of an advanced plot to take down the Twin Towers. In the past typically I have been more careful to point out that such-and-such program simply is an extension of the previous administration; for instance, while it was important for the public to know that the Obama White House through USAID is funding the construction of Islamic schools, I also pointed out that Bush spent even more than Obama on such initiatives! Thanks for having the guts to risk being attacked by those who do not show the level of discernment you have displayed. I have since tweaked the headline and article lede.
It is what it is; apparently — indeed, clearly — people want to know about such transfers of military equipment. U.S. Trade & Aid Monitor serves as a repository of information about how U.S. taxpayer funds are being spent on such projects. Some are billion-dollar initiatives. Some are much smaller, like this one — though these are high-performance special ops boats, not simply inflatable tub toys, as you suggest.
ah kenya...the 51st(or would that be 58th)State.
