During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Barack Obama made a briefly reported “gaffe” where he said he’d been in “all 57 states and had one to go, the 58th. It got a laugh from most Republicans and was buried by the mainstream media.
Was our President sending a signal to folks who might interpret as intended? Maybe it was just a coincidence, but it took me 4 years for it to click. (REF: Media Research Council – NY Times Watch, 11/15/2011 or Google it)
Jump ahead to the 2012 Republican primaries when Rick Perry had a momentary lapse and couldn’t remember that the Energy Department was one of three agencies he wanted eliminated. The press had a field day – though not as bad as Dan Quayle’s using an alternate spelling of tomato (tomatoe) – both gaffes sufficient to destroy their political reputations by the pens of mockers and the wagging tongues of pundits.
Now to the first week of June 2012 when I attended a talk by John Guandolo at a patriotic ACT! For America veteran’s dinner.

Yes, it was no “gaffe.” There are indeed precisely 57 states (or terrorist organizations, or combinations of the two) in the world-wide Islamic Conference (proto- “World Caliphate”).
(And yes, many people have commented that he appears to be working very hard on creating the 58th...)

Hasn’t the 57 and islam been connected for a while now? I know I recall discussions about here on FR.
Anyhow it was Islam or a gaffe on counting primaries vs states. But that would still leave him short the 58th— that he still needed to visit.

Obama is a muslim decapitation strike on the US, and never was anything else. Bumble about with communist conspiracies all you like, but islam was what he always was about.
Of course, there’s no distinction between islam and communism (as in PFLP), or between islam and nazism (as in Radio Islam).
The creep is even a qualified islamic cleric.
The Muslim connection to the “57 states” was brought up immediately on Free Republic as soon as the story broke.

He actually said he had been to 57 states with 1 to go and 2 they weren’t going to let him go to so that makes 60. In one sentence he increased the number of states 20% and yet people don’t believe he can make the oceans stop rising.

As far as the Islamic Caliphate being some sort of whimsical dream for Moslems it used to be called "The Ottoman Empire". They were something like the first or second state to recognize the independence of the United States.
For a variety of reasons it became the objective of Western states to bring down or carve up the Ottoman Empire. Much work along those lines had been done by the late 1700s, and in the mid-1800s the Greeks themselves achieved independence.
In the early 1900s the Port (Ottoman Ruling Agency) made a really serious mistake ~ they allied themselves to Imperial Germany. Germany lost the war and the Allies inflicted a ruinous reparations penalty on Germany. They took over and carved up as much of the Ottoman Empire as they could and left behind the rump-state that is known today as Turkey.
Oil was discovered. Trouble raised its head. WWII Was fought. The US ended up on top and Harry Truman directed the Allies to withdraw from the MIddle East.
A good number of Islamic nation-states were created at the direction of the United States.
We did not direct the European colonialists to withdraw from South Asia ~ so the French attempted to reassert rule in Indo-China, the Dutch in Indonesia, the Brits in Malaya and India and it was just one thing after the other. The French lost. The Dutch lost. The Brits pulled out. China managed to bungle everything with the deaths of tens of millions.
Somewhere along the way someone counted up the Islamic states and said "Hey, there are 57 Islamic states, just like Heinz".
The real reason for 57 is that it is 3 X 19, and 19 is a mystical number for Islam. You have 19 in Africa, 19 in Asia, and 19 somewhere else ~ even though there really aren't 19, nor are there 57, nor are they were some people want to place them in reality.
The whole thing is just bombastic self-glorification.
60 was my count too.
But it looks like it will always be 57 to the general public.
