Skip to comments. Why You Absolutely Must Have Food Supplies, Hard Assets and Reserve Cash

The latest warning signs are, once again, popping up in Europe and should be taken seriously, as it is only a matter of time before such events play out in the rest of the world, including right here at home:

BNI depositors unable to make withdrawals / payments, payments of utility bills, mortgage payments, taxes
Peter Giordano, Adiconsum: Grave of the Bank of Italys attitude that takes action without considering the impact on depositors, and especially on single-income families and pensioners
The Bank of Italy authorized the suspension of payments by Bank Network Investments SpA (BNI) without communicating anything to the depositors.
Very serious and unacceptable says Peter Jordan, Secretary General Adiconsum the attitude of the Bank of Italy SpA in each BNI, because highly prejudicial to the interests of customers.
Bank of Italy, in fact, after extending the receivership of the bank, thus giving the impression of an imminent rescue, then gave the green light for compulsory winding up, without giving any prior notice to the depositors, leaving them in no condition to perform any type of operation, even basic ones for daily survival, such as withdrawals / payments, utilities payments, rates, taxes.

Time to keep the quarter jar full!
Will reserve cash be worth anything if things collapse? And will gold or silver be worth anything if eating and fighting off starving looters are the most important considerations of the day?
It depends on how bad it gets.
“if things collapse”
It’ll get bad if that happens. Be very prepared.
IMO it depends on whether its just a financial collapse or if there is a war that goes with it. By war I don’t mean riots, but China or Russia looking to expand. Perhaps the muslims taking advantage of weakness.
Can you prove that any of your prepping will make you and yours better off that the non-preppers? I’m envisioning a scenario like Zimbabwe. I’d suspect that at least some white farmers had plans for shtf. Mr. Mugabe and his hit mobs made short work of them. Here’s hoping you fare better than they did.
what are hard assets?
I think if the SHTF quick trading commodities will be things like bar anti-bacterial soap, bleach, antiseptics, chlorine, toiletries, water carriers, candles, propane.
Are those what are considered hard assets?
Think closer to home. What happens to the close-in suburbs of major cities. . .when the welfare and food stamps just. . .stop.
“Can you prove that any of your prepping will make you and yours better off that the non-preppers?”
Can you prove it won’t? I can prove that without food you’ll get hungry and that without water you’ll die.
Why should I have to prove anything?
Matches, portable stove fuel, pump water filters, toilet paper, battery radio and extra batteries, hunting, fishing and self defense equipment, Long-lasting food like MREs or certain canned food. I am seeing canned salmon with sell-by dates 5 years out.
Good point but I think its worse than that, its not just the suburbs. A good 50% of the population gets govt support of some kind. When it stops there will be riots all over. Some suburbs will be peaceful and some will be violent. I’d wager its almost random. The higher the population density the more likely there will be violence.
Look to Greece. What happens when the electric companies stop because they can’t pay their workers or buy coal? Or the police stop getting paid, the list is endless. The govt will try to hold it together for a while, leading to massive inflation.
“By war I dont mean riots, but China or Russia looking to expand. Perhaps the muslims taking advantage of weakness.”
China and/or Russia would not try it...I think they know that the largest ‘army’ in the world is that of the armed American citizenry. And if the muzzies want to start something, well, bring ‘em on!
Of course, this large ‘army’ at some point will need some leadership. I think that can be put together w/o too much difficulty. Lots of experience in this ‘army’...many who have been there. The one thing we won’t need is that part of today’s military leadership that is there because of politics...can you say ‘the Colin Powell’s?’
Same as human stuff. Guidelines for Post SHTF use of Veterinary Antibiotics
“Can you prove “
Stupid question. Unless you can predict the future nothing such as this is provable.
Probably not, but ammunition will be worth a lot.
“what are hard assets?”
guns and ammo followed closely by silver, fractional gold and food.
Its cant be long before the FDA starts regulating vet supplies more tightly.
Zimbabwe is 98 percent black. The 98 percent made short work of the farmers you mention.
The situation is very different here in the US.
Start with 200 million firearms in private hands.
has anyone seen the video where the ebt cards werent updated on day expected.
“how yu expect me to feed my kids?
there was near chaos and that was when they were one day late.
My grandparents didnt use much cash. Grew all their own eats and we all pretty much learned that you grew enough to last till next growing season. A little cash goes a long way in that case. Self sufficiency skills can be traded for the few necessities that cant be locally grown.
Solar battery chargers are relatively cheap. A bank of 12v batteries for light and an inverter for small tools that is kept charged by a solar charger would give light and light appliance availability. Also there are solar chargers for flashlight and other small batteries. Wind turbines are easily built to generate electricity as well.
That started YEARS ago. You used to be able to get a lot more: now it’s down to fish antibiotics, because NOBODY takes fishes to a Vet. . .
I remember, 5 years back, when you could buy zithromycin, aka “Z-pack”, the 5-day 6-pill antibiotic course. In bulk. . .
There was a huge run on ammo before the Zer0-1 election. There is currently a huge run before Zer0-2. I think guns and ammo are first for preppers. Food is second. Alarm systems (dogs) that work without electricity is third. A community watch is up there if you don’t have lib-traitor spy neighbors, which I am sure all of us will suffer under.
Yes, but the distribution and density is less, the farther you get from the cities.
In the country. . . we’re a LOT more likely to be armed and a lot more likely to see mobs coming from a much farther distance. . .
― Thomas Jefferson
Doubters and preppers will each get a chance to see if they chose the best path.
It is the philosophy of self reliance versus the belief that we cannot cannot affect our own destiny - and anyway, the government will take care of us.
If there is no SHTF scenario neither is negatively affected and the prepper has a nice stock of consumables on hand, purchased before market prices jumped after the most recent rounds of inflation.
If there is a SHTF scenario the prepper has a nice stock of consumables on hand.
The Doubter has the government.
If one can make an argument for not prepping, one could also use the same logic to argue against any other form of insurance we purchase.
You’re also more susceptible to attack by large groups or forced relocation by the govt.
4 or 5 people on a farm would be easy to overtake by a well disciplined group. Especially if a couple are caught out working in the fields.
Eric Holder and the Zer0 regime set up a gun running scheme they planned to blame on us to outlaw private guns. We would have had a death penalty if any non-goobermint regime did it. I can see the total disregard for rights these communists are pushing. I wish them a life sentence. I actually would like a death sentence, but it would start a civil war.
You pretend to be as bad off as everyone else so no one will know what you have.
"Says SocGen's Galy: "It all feels very early 1980s when police would stop folks carrying suitcases of cash into Switzerland."
Can you prove it wont? I can prove that without food youll get hungry and that without water youll die.
Why should I have to prove anything?
Forget "hard assets" when Armageddon strikes. Then, the only assets will be edible assets. The only thing on survivors' minds will be, "where do I get my next meal?"
As one other poster stated, its like an insurance policy. If nothing happens then I have a few more guns, ammo, a nice knife and some food I’ll mostly eat anyway.
If something happens then I’ll have a few more guns, ammo, a nice knife and some food I’ll mostly eat anyway.
Not sure I understand the downside.
I live in the USA, so instead of individual effort, I am as bad off as every one else. Can you spare a dime or $1K. I promise not to give you anything back, but audits and grief like Zer0 does.
You either prepare and stand on your own beholden to no one or you become dependent on others to provide your basic needs and become theirserf.
As for me I dont want to be beholden to anyone for providing what is needed for me and mine. I certainly dont want to have to kiss some gubberment third class bureaucratic to try and coax some help from them, I dont want some jack booted thug herding me in line and telling me where to stand, sit, eat or sleep. And last but not least I dont want to be shut up in with a bunch of zombies and have to worry about not only trying to get basic necessities but having to fight to keep what I manage to get.
Now you seem to think that prepping is foolish, so I ask you whats easier telling your children and loved ones why you prepared or explaining to them why you didnt?
But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8
But then someone has to stand on the bridge waiting for FEMA to bring them a bottle of water, an MRE and a warm blanket so as to provide the Network Anchors their background Money Shot. I wonder how that will workout for you?
Face it weve kicked the financial can so far down the road that we are running out of road and the can which was once the size of a soda can is now the size of an oil drum (Try kicking that!)
For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:
NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!
For those of you who havent started already its time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.
Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3
Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.
There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.
Underestimation can be fatal.
Are you a closet communist? Have you ever held a private sector job???? Do your subjects appreciate you? Will you be my subject? I could make you truly miserable while I laugh while I pull the strings, instead of the other way around!
I can say Colin Powell, but I have to spit after saying it!
“Can you prove that any of your prepping will make you and yours better off that the non-preppers?.....”
I’ve come to one conclusion—if SHTF comes, I want to be best buddies with folks such as ‘Kartographer”!
1raider1?..... well, not so much.
I went on a climbing trip to Cho Oyu from the Tibet side. The “Peoples Liberation Army” of China pointed guns to get me to stand in line, a line of people including me. From what I saw they brutalized the people of Tibet. The same Zer0 believers here are no different.
Went to do some restocking this week.
We always buy bars of Ivory soap in bulk packs at either BJ’s or Sams Club.
Ivory is pure soap - no perfumes, etc. - and in a SHTF scenario can be used for just about any cleaning or washing task: Bathing, dish washing, laundry....
This week we couldn’t find Ivory at either BJ’s or Sams.
And none of the help there seemed to know why they have dropped the product.
Now we have to find a new source or buy one or two bars at a time at retail stores.
If we knew this was going to happen we would have saved our stock of Ivory and used up other brands.
If you don’t prepare, then prepare for your new domicile in the “FEMA” (it’s for your own good, we’re just trying to help, we’re making the best out of a bad situation, bend over and grab your ankles, etc.) Camps!
Your comparison is a poor one.
For the white population in Rhodesia, SHTF came when Carter forced South Africa to withdraw their support of Rhodesia, and Mugabe and his ZANLA thugs stole the election. The only “prepping” to do at that point was to liquidate your holdings and get the hell out...which literally began the very next day. Those who stayed behind, and are currently facing the wrath of Mugabe’s goons, are closer to the “non-preppers” you cite.
And many of the farmers and rural dwellers did, in fact, stock some supplies and arms against natural disasters and guerilla raids.
“I live in the USA, so instead of individual effort, I am as bad off as every one else. Can you spare a dime or $1K. I promise not to give you anything back, but audits and grief like Zer0 does.”
Nah, those words show you are smart. Just use, “Can you spare a dime or a drink of water?”
I am so old, no one would think I would have anythiing worthwhile, and certainly not a gun and ammo. “Could you spare a can of soup for me?” That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I’m in the suburbs and I know exactly how I’d take out a farm if I had too. There are many many people in the suburbs with military training.
Of course I’m not the kind of person you’d have to worry about.
Like I said, it depends on what happens. Way too many variables to account for. If I had the money I’d move somewhere more remote. I don’t so I’ll make do and hope for the best. I just don’t think anyone is going to get a free pass.
Use of antibiotics will put you out of action quickly.
Learn to use more effective things like fresh garlic, oregano oil, tea tree oil, etc. They won’t derail your immune system like antibiotics will.
