1975

Sexy

I do recall feeding quarters into the jukebox everyday to hear this song at the arcade that summer of '74, couldn't get enough of it... nor her. After ten Grammy Awards, I guess I wasn't the only one who saw something there-

Written by Stevie Wonder for Chicago's Rufus feat. Chaka Khan, 'Tell Me Something Good' went all the way to #3 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and was one of the very first tunes to utilize the 'talk box' Peter Frampton made so famous soon afterward.

Photos don't really do this woman justice, just check-out the stage presence at this 1974 show in Central Park...

I happened to be there in the park that day . The performance was not a 'concert' but part of a Bob Hope Special.

The crowd in Sheep Meadow was small, didn't laugh at any of Hope's jokes and Rufus lip-synched...sorry but that's the fact, jack.

My good friend Sidney Barnes discovered Chaka Khan. He’s probably the most famous person you’ve never heard of!

Well, that’s the problem with FR.... no matter what historical event you post on, there’s ALWAYS somebody that was actually there lol

It’s funny they lip synched, cuz this video is overdubbed with a remix of the studio single anyway... double-dubbed I guess

“Big hair!”

I think her and Dolly Parton were in some sort of 70s battle of the races there lol

Chicago talent agent?

I thought she got into the business through her family, had siblings in bands and such

She’s not lip synching to this song, it’s overdubbed with a remix of the studio single... the record company put this together recently

Guess I’m a sucker for a girl who can flash a smile like that, but I’ll put you down for a gargantuan ‘two thumbs down’ lol

I was actually working in plain clothes as part of a buy-and-bust unit. I had hippie-hair, looked about eighteen and did the buying. The park was full of nickle & dime dealers in those days.

I remember Hope telling his jokes to no response then retelling them with an audible laugh and applause track.

I am probably part of the VERY small overlap between Rufus and Bob Hope fans- can’t believe they booked her for a Bob Hope special

There is a thankfully very small but unfortunately very active group of freepers who seem to be in constant competition to see who can post the ugliest and most adolescent posts. You probably win more often than most.

Racist posts feed the Left’s disingenuous narrative re. conservatives... hurting the cause of freedom immensely, that’s my concern

She's put on a pound or two, but who hasn't? Still a beautiful woman to this day.

Per Wikipedia: Though she sang at both the 2000 Democratic and Republican conventions, Khan says that she is more of a "Democratic-minded person".

Actually, Chaka Khan, for the most part, republicans are more "democratic" than Democrats these days.

We share that concern. Unfortunately the fact of people in the WH and the Trayvon Martin case have brought that ugly sub-set of freepers out of the dark. I think that a couple of them are actually trying to tear FR down.
