Mark Steyn: Earthly woes mount as Obama's rhetoric soars(One of today's Must Read)
OC Register ^ | June 15, 2012 | Mark Steyn

Round about this time in the election cycle, a presidential challenger finds himself on the stump and posing a simple test to voters: "Ask yourself – are you better off now than you were four years ago?"

But, in fact, you don't need to ask yourself, because the Federal Reserve Board's Survey of Consumer Finances has done it for you. Between 2007 and 2010, Americans' median net worth fell 38.8 percent – or from $126,400 per family to $77,300 per family. Oh, dear. As I mentioned a few months ago, when readers asked me to recommend countries they could flee to, most of the countries worth fleeing to Americans can no longer afford to live in.

Which means we'll just have to fix things here. How likely is Barack Obama to do this? A few days ago he came to Cleveland, a city that is a byword for economic dynamism, fiscal prudence, and sound government. He gave a 54-minute address that tried the patience even of the most doting court eunuchs. "One of the worst speeches I've ever heard Barack Obama make," pronounced MSNBC's Jonathan Alter, as loyal Democrat attendees fled the arena to volunteer for the Obamacare death-panel pilot program. In fairness to the president, I wouldn't say it was that much worse, or duller, or more listless and inert than previous Obama speeches. In fact, much of it was exactly the same guff he was peddling when Jonathan Alter's pals were still hailing him as the world's greatest orator. The problem is the ever-widening gulf between the speech and the slough of despond all about.

If he has lost sycophants like Alter, he really is in trouble.

So today our money-no-object government spends lot of money but to no great object.

One of the best Steyn pieces ever. And that's saying something!

I remember him having to take the oath twice.

Is that correct?

I seem to remember that he apparently made some sort of mistake or omission taking the oath publicly the first time, and had to repeat it a second time—privately.

Is my memory mistaken?

Yeah, he screwed up the oath, then had Roberts redo it in the Oval Office, IIRC.

But Obama offers an even more absurd evolution of this grim trope: "I can be anything I want to be as long as you chumps dream your dreams."

Things were definitely different in those days. I toured the Hoover Dam and went to the museum. In the museum, there was a picture of a powder monkey priming dynamite. The picture showed the guy sitting on a crate of dynamite, pushing a primer (with fuse) into a stick of dynamite, while he was smoking a cigarette.

Unless we can get rid of this tyrant and his hordes of control freak minions, we are good and truly f*cked!

Self-pity is never an attractive quality, and in an elected head of state even less so. Obama whines...

Obama whines... the 'doting court eunuchs' of the MSM fail to notice...

They are too in love with Obama and themselves to notice. MSM will wake-up one day but it is already too late.

I still think of it as Boulder Dam. I’ve liked that name better since I was five years old.

"So today our money-no-object government spends lot of money but to no great object."

This is the one point that Steyn surprisingly missed. It's a matter of understanding your enemy. Most still consider Obama just another politician. That's not the case. Obama's administration is designed to fundamentally 'change' America. Obama said it in the campaign. He says it today. His mission is to destroy this country.

I'll quote Ms. Barnhardt here:

Barack Obama is a slack-jawed, mouth-breathing imbecile who doesn't have the brains God gave a goldfish. He is also a hard-core drug user. He smokes weed in "Choom Wagon One" to "mellow" and smokes crack, and probably does cocaine when he needs to be "up" for campaign appearances. He has no idea what he is saying most of the time, and is so stupid that he lacks the self-awareness to know when he has said something monumentally stupid, such as we saw this morning. He is not smart, hence his complete inability to speak extemporaneously and his mere passing familiarity with the English language. He is in no way competent on any level, hence his staggering lack of command on any topic except sports involving big, sweaty mens. He is not actually engaged in any meaningful policy discussion or formation. Obama himself is a puppet front kept entertained with drugs, golf, and gay sex, and the golf may only be a cover for the gay sex. People who play golf with any frequency tend to develop something that resembles a golf SWING. Barack Obama can not swing a golf club competently despite playing more golf than the avid, semi-retired, country club golfers I know.

Billions of dollars have been directed by this administration to their cronies, sycophants, and supporters. We are watching the rapid deterioration of our country.

The comments at the end of the article are changing, too.

A year or so ago you could be sure to find several Prog “Yeah, but Bush...” comments on a regular basis; not anymore - nobody bothers to defend Æthelblack the Unready now...

Love Ann Barnhardt. I have said this from day one. No matter where Obama was born he is not American. Like Anwar al-Awlaki who was born in Colorado, moved back to the Middle East and then went to school on the backs of good hard working Americans. Obama did the same and went to school here on our dime as a foreign student.
He has reaped every advantage from life in America but like a junkie to his enabler he resents all the help.

Yes, he hate himself and all he surveys, he is a demon!
A demon who speaks to the lazy and the greedy. Keep me in power and I will give you everything. This is like a very bad movie with obvious villains and a more obvious outcome.

Obama the demon is the best thing to happen to America. Now we must turn to God and claim this nation back. Even halfwits who vote realize the danger we are in with this evil degenerate running the country.

HE WILL NOT WIN ONE STATE IN NOVEMBER
