Happy Birthday, Sir Paul

Strange - there was no mention of this on today’s NY Times front page. He must have been born after they went to press. I’ll look again tomorrow.

I’m a huge Beatles fan. I even own a John Lennon signature Rickenbacker guitar with a Voc AC-30 amp! But McCartney can KMA after his snarky and totally uncalled for swipe at W when he received some award at the White House. McCartney is just another typical left-wing jerk who shoots off his mouth without thinking about the 1/2 of his fans he’s insulting with his oh so clever drivel.

Really enjoyed Sir Pauls’ concert in 1994. I could have lived w/o the 30 minute Vegan intro, though.

Yeah, it’s not DU, we’re humourless. And it’s not like he’s dead.

Incidentally, there is no such thing as virtual wishing “Happy Birthday”. He’s not going to know it, so it comes down to a a game of posturing, doesn’t it.

If you really want to wish it, then get your ass to a stationary store, buy a card, write, find out his address, buy stamps, attach them to the envelope and send it via the postal service. You’ve heard of the postal service, haven’t ya?

Bashes Bush....Hangs out with 0bama...

I'm just a year under Paul McCartney's age but my musical tastes had already matured by the time the Beatles achieved popularity. I never cared much for him as a person nor his music. My preferences are traditional Country and pure Southern Gospel music. There aren't a whole lot of liberals in that genre.

Alabama's Randy Owen seems to shade to the left with his Song of the South, praising government programs and nearly deifying Franklin Diablo [sic] Roosevelt.

Daddy was a veteran, a southern democrat.
They oughta get a rich man to vote like that.

Well somebody told us Wall Street fell
But we were so poor that we couldn't tell.
Cotton was short and the weeds were tall
But Mr. Roosevelt's a gonna save us all.

Well momma got sick and daddy got down.
The county got the farm and they moved to town.
Pappa got a job with the TVA
He bought a washing machine and then a Chevrolet.

I mentioned this once before when Paul McCartney was the topic. My only God son, Justin, developed flu-like symptoms in August of 2010 at the age of 26. He went to a walk-in clinic and imaging showed a melon sized mass in his chest. He was eventually diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer; only eight cases recorded before him. He survived until march of 2011. In February of thatvyear he was at Sloan in NYC for treatment. His spirits were good and he was comfortable but he knew h had little time left.

He was sitting in his hospital room with his mother when Paul McCartney walked in. He had a Taylor guitar with him and spent about an hour talking, playing and singing with Justin. As he was leaving, he pulled out a sharpie and autographed the guitar and gave it to Justin. The picture of the two together shows the first bit of joy on Justins face in about a year.

None of you knew this because McCartney does this sort of thing quietly with no fanfare. Paul McCartney as hs faults but not in my house.

There you go. We don’t know that he forced her to be vegan, but we know they fed themselves on those awful veggie TV dinners they produced, breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, and because they’re English, tea time as well. That would kill an Arnold Schwartzenegger!

It’s a shame about the original McCartney, the one who wrote all that music. His replacement just wasn’t the same.

Man, I'm sorry for your loss. But what a beautiful story, and it definitely seems like something Sir Paul would do.

I don't give a crap about the man's politics. He's a musician first, and simply one of the greatest to grace the international stage in the last 100 years.

That’s a very touching story, honestly, and I’m sure he does a lot of great stuff like that - just like Rush does things a lot of folks don’t know about. I just wish celebs like him would keep their politics to themselves. He was being honored in the White House and it was totally inappropriate for him to make a stab at a former President in that venue. The ironic thing was, while he implied Bush hadn’t seen the inside of a library, Bush is married to a librarian! Just a bit of snarkiness that wasn’t necessary IMHO. I still like his music however.

I wonder if McCartney knew how many very good works like that Bush has done “under the radar” - especially for the troops - if he’d have still felt it necesary to make his snide comments.

I don't give a crap about the man's politics.

Neither do I and I suspect at least 1/2 of his fans - so why open his trap and spew his crapola? I feel the same way about Dixie Chics, Sheryl Crow, Bruce Springboard and others - if they are great musicians and entertainers that great. To quote Laura Ingraham - just "shut up and sing!"

I used to be a huge Beatles fan. From the late 60's to late 80's, I listened to them constantly. However, somewhere along the way, I feel I outgrew them, and rock music in general. Now I listen to classical (symphonies, opera, baroque, the whole shebang), or Sinatra and singers of his ilk who sing the Great American songbook. The words and music that appealed to me as a young person was written and performed by young people for young people. It's a musical idiom that no longer strikes a chord with me.

Speaking of McCartney's jab at Bush, this is the entire "joke": 'It's a fantastic honour (for) the Gershwin family to give me this incredible award and for me to be awarded it by the Library of Congress. And in fact, after the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is.' What gets me about the so-called joke is that it is so lame and not funny (particularly considering that presenting the award was the dumbass Obama). McCartney used to write lyrics that rivaled Cole Porter for cleverness and ingenuity; and the best he can do is a joke that would not even do a high-schooler credit?

Even though Sir Paul is no longer relevant to me, he once was; so I guess I can afford him a "thanks for the memories" birthday wish.

Here's a fitting tribute. Not being from Southern California, Paul McCartney probably doesn't know this song, but every Baby Boomer who grew up in the Southland in the 1950's does.

I had totally written him off after his boorish behavior at the White House.
