It’s nothing more than a partisan witch-hunt, a Republican effort to discredit the Attorney General just months before the 2012 election.
If you were watching the any of the main-stream media offerings yesterday, that’s the message you took away from their coverage of the Fast and Furious hearing.
Well, except Fox News who once again comes across as “fair and balanced”. That’s not to say, their bias didn’t show in their opinion segments later in the evening beginning with O’Reilly, but at least they attempt to separate news from opinion, unlike the other outlets.
Quick break: is it me or does the tune “Jesse’s Girl” automatically pop into your head whenever Tamara Holder appears on screen? Ok – back to the post…
Well, for once our liberal friends are correct, it is a witch-hunt. It is a Republican effort to discredit the Attorney General just months prior to the 2012 election. It is all of that because Eric Holder allowed it to become so.
For the last eighteen months he’s tried everything possible to not release the documents related to the botched gun running operation. Liberals argue he’s already given Congress the pertinent documents; however, just the fact that over a hundred thousand documents have not yet to be released leaves room for doubt.
It’s important to note that it’s not up to the Justice Department to decide what’s pertinent, and what’s not, when it’s their organization under investigation. That’s the opinion of many Congressional Representatives, and it’s the opinion of a majority of the American people following this debacle (though many are playing catch-up if they were not regular viewers of Fox News).
But, apparently not the opinion of Eric Holder who believes the Justice department is under no obligation to react when directed to do so by Congress. He’s snubbed his nose at Congress for the last eighteen months by deciding what they’ll receive and what they won’t.
In addition, our Attorney General has displayed a penchant for not providing accurate information during his personal appearances before Congress. He tends to misspeak (his words) to the point he later has to retract statements from the record.
Nothing major, just small things like when he first became aware of the Fast & Furious Operation. And, recently to recant a statement claiming the Bush Administration lost approximately three hundred weapons in a similar operation, a statement with no basis whatsoever.
Funny how politicians always use the word misspeak when presenting incorrect facts. Kind of like a do-over. Regular folks call that fibbing (among other terms) but that is for another post if and when Congress entertains the possibility of perjury.
Why not? Certainly Holder’s changing testimony rises to the level of say Roger Clemens who just completed his journey through the Federal Court System.
So yes, Republicans are looking to discredit the Attorney General just months prior to the election because the Attorney General allowed it to get to this point. The situation could have been rectified eighteen months ago.
Despite arguments to the contrary by our liberal friends, that fact cannot be disputed. Had Holder and his shop come clean eighteen months ago, we wouldn’t be where we’re at now.
Liberals are screaming there are more pressing matters to deal with rather than spending time on a botched gun running operation. Certainly this matter can be put off until other issues have been addressed.
Well, they’re right. There are more pressing matters. But, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. And congress cannot turn their attention away from this “fire” just as they couldn’t turn away from past “fires” such as the Monica Lewinski scandal or Watergate.
What’s sad is just like the Lewinski scandal or Watergate, it’s the cover-up that’s going to get Holder, not any misdoings related to the actual operation. While the Justice Department may have suffered some embarrassment as a result of complying with the initial document request, it’s likely the Attorney General would have survived.
Now, we’re faced with another first in American history. In addition to the appointment of our first African-American Attorney General, we’re likely to see our first Attorney General charged with Contempt of Congress.
Politicians never learn do they?
And now the plot thickens. In an obvious attempt to drag this issue on past the 2012 election, President Obama has now invoked Executive Privilege with respect to producing the additional documents. Congress will not be receiving the documents, Holder will likely be held in contempt, and a long drawn out court battle ensues.
Why would the President choose to get involved? Up until now he was above the fray so to speak. He has to know that by invoking Executive Privilege he not only puts himself in the middle of the issues, he now owns it!
What possibly could be in those documents?
I smell a rat…a Kenyan rat!
To be continued…
I'll call BS on this. What they have done is essentially a conspiracy against the Constitution and the American citizens that resulted in the murder of an American citizen/border patrol agent and hundreds of Mexicans. The magnitude of their crimes and deceit guaranteed that they HAD to try to cover it up or be subjected to criminal charges . . . that is if they get what they deserve.
This Republican is looking to jail Holder, if not now, then after the election.
I never watch the major network news as it just makes me mad.
I did scan across the channels just to see what they were reporting. Every single one was making false statements to protect Obama.
The common theme was errors and mistakes while trying to do good things. Never mentioned the whole purpose of the scandal. Not a single time. Never mentioned that no effort at all was made to trace the guns and in fact agents who tried to do so were told not to.
So this was AFTER Brian Terry was killed?
Just my thought...lets get the guns out there and create a crisis...couple of people might get killed but not a problem cause they’re bad people anyway. Then Obama and his crew can move with gun control legislation.
Didn’t expect an agent to get killed.
Holder is Black—thats it simple racism.
BLACK is a culture, not a race.
Obama isn't 'black', and neither is Holder.
Holder is mostly an ARAB.
If we’re lucky and justice prevails, Eric Holder and Obama will be smoked by the same evidence.
