The Lowest Point in my Life, and Surprise

In a very difficult time in my life I was suffering from grief. I knew that with grieving you have to go through it, not over nor under it. I had lost a beloved pet after a long ordeal trying to prolong his life. His end was very unpleasant and traumatic. Jack was before my children and I doted on him for 8 years. My attachment to him was extremely close that it truly felt like a family member had passed away. A lot of people had no idea of the utter despair and helplessness I felt at losing my pet. I felt embarrassed at the degree of my sadness because I hadn’t grieved like this for the passing of other extended family members. Adopted animals truly do become a part of your family.

With 3 days of crying both night and day the tears continued to fall beyond my control. What was wrong with me? I needed to get back to work but just couldn’t stop feeling such utter sadness. The curtains were drawn and I sat there so pathetic in what I would call the lowest moment of my life.

Never had I experienced anything so heartbreaking. Distraught would be the best word description for the emotional state I was in. Gut wrenching sobs continued to come out of me that I never even heard knocking at my locked front door. I had started to pray out loud over and over “It’s too much…God, please help me!” As hard as this is to describe exactly, the pain lifted finally and the tears abruptly stopped falling. I keenly knew that I was not alone in the room any longer. I looked around my living room not seeing anything, but feeling...

See, that right there tells me that you are not destined for heaven.

Blogpimps all burn in hell, it's true.

Post your whole piece here and try for redemption.

If you wish to share the message, why not post it in full?

Are blog hits more important than your message?

I lost one beloved kitty after 18 years and her sister after 25 years. It is years later and I (and Mrs. FD) still grieve.

Since God has mercy on the wicked too I expect to see quite a large pack of Pit Bulls making it over the River Styx.

I have suffered a grievous loss and it was about 4 years ago. I have prayed and prayed and nothing has gotten any better. Why for her puppy would God send relief and for mine none?

Prayer is answered, sometimes dramatically and sometimes subtlely, in ways that are unexpected.

I’d never been much of one for prayer other than the social convention sort, in church, before meals. I know differently now. I had a very bad time in my own life beginning five years ago. I don’t know that I would have made it through without prayer and His mercy.

Is this something you’re willing to discuss?

We lost 2 pets prematurely. Both dogs around 7 years old. One had cancer, the other developed dialated cardiomyopathy.
Unexpectedly fast and young deaths. Previously we had our first dog live to 14, unusually old for a doberman.

The dialated cardiomyopathy was especially heartbreaking. One day the dog coughed, and suspecting something stuck in his throat, we went to have him scoped. The vet x-rayed him first and found his lungs nearly filled with fluid from heart disease. Even if he needed a scope put down his throat,he was too ill to have that done. The cough was fluid in his lungs.

We went from a dog with a 24 hour old cough, to a death sentence in a few seconds of that diagnosis.

We did the heroic medications route and spent a lot of money. He rebounded for 4 months and then the meds were no longer effective.

That dog was a doberman rescue dog. We got him when he was 2. We used the rescue again and within a month of his death, we adopted a mix breed dog (half doberman).

That was 2 years ago. We have our 6 year old doberman who we raised, and this wonderful adopted dog of unknown age.

We have always had 2 dogs. When one goes, we grieve the loss, and find a needy dog at a rescue.

There are rescues for every breed imaginable. Our rescue takes in all breeds, not just the doberman. They even have cats and kittens to adopt. They keep their pets until they are adopted, no matter what, no matter the cost if the dog is ill or has special requirements.

I donate to their cause, to help the dogs they have until they are placed in homes.

It is absolutely OK. There is no rule on FR about not excerpting blogs.

What a sad existence some people have. Nothing to do all day but look for blog excerpts and try to intimidate people. Ignore him.

dialated cardiomyopathy

Don't know if this is what my dog had, but took her to the vet for a cough. Did not expect to not return home with her. Her lungs were full of fluid and she was extremely anemic. She seemed a little tired the week prior, but I didn't think anything about it until she started coughing. It has been almost a year and I think about her daily. Best dog I have ever had.

We have had bull terriers for many years. Show quality.
The BT we have now is a rescue ... a handsome neutered colored BT.
We gave serious consideration to calling him Obama.
His background was obscure and he didn't have papers. ;o)

I lost my cat last year in June. It was awful... I sat with him for 2 days as I watched him die. I had him for almost 19 years. My kids kept asking to get another cat, I just couldn’t. I didn’t want to replace him and I was very sad about losing him.

3 months after his death I finally gave in since it was my daughters birthday request. I am healed! This cat has healed me. It took another 1 1/2 months before I could really feel joy in having this new kitten in our lives, but I have mended.

Maybe you should do the same for yourself. 4 years is a very long time to grieve. I am still sad, but I also know that he lived a long life and he is happy now.

Sorry about your doggie. If it wasn’t DCM, no doubt it was some other heart condition. We had no clue what was coming that day we took Bailey to the vet. We took him to the local university’s vet school for a second opinion and they comfirmed and then took over his treatment. We gave him many many pills over the months we had him. He rebounded nicely after a few days, and had 4 good months with us before he had to be helped out of the suffering of not being able to breathe. We were so upset the day we had to do that. Like you said “best dog I ever had.”

Hey my screen is blurry.

Dogs really get into your heart.
