Vanity: Big Gov't Roberts = the power to tax can be used to destroy liberty
June 28, 2012 | Me

Roberts believes ObamaCare is constitutional because there is a penalty, ooops I mean tax associated with the mandate. John Marshall's decision in McCullough vs. Maryland stated:

the power to tax is the power to destroy

I will concede Marshall was talking about the unconstitutionality of Maryland's tax to destroy the Federally created Bank of the US. In this case, Roberts is totally fine with the gov't taxing its way to destroy our Liberty.

Roberts called Obama a liar.

Obama repeatedly insisted the mandate was not a tax. Roberts says, oh yes it is.

Congress can impose taxes. Congress can also repeal them. We elect congress.

Roberts also essentially said Congress and the President are free to pass stupid laws. Money quote from his opinion:

“We do not consider whether the Act embodies sound policies. That judgment is entrusted to the Nation’s elected leaders. We ask only whether Congress has the power under the Constitution to enact the challenged provisions.”

Congress can impose taxes.

In your world Congress can impose a $100,000 tax on each car purchase unless you purchase a Chevy Volt. To me that is the definition of tyranny.

Just kills me how you’ll NEVER, EVER see the left wing justices sway from their ideology. Nearly half of the ‘conservative’ justices on the court will side with the left for whatever reason. Anyone that refers to this as a “conservative court” is clearly just full of shit.

Roberts Just made it so that we can run campaign commercials that have Obama saying Obamacare is “Not a Tax” then the commercials can cite the ruling that it is “Indeed a Tax” and make political hay out of it.

We have a that consists of three parts.

Now all three parts have melded into one massive turd.

This is no longer a Constitutional Government. The Constitution is merely an old piece of paper that the Judges just wiped their asses on.

Cannot understand why I am surprised.

I should have seen from the way the court ignored all challenges to the Kenyans legitimacy, that they were no longer for America.

They just wiped their asses on the Constitution.

It is now only a piece of paper.Historically important as a dream that has now failed.

Today’s Government can now do anything they want.

Obama repeatedly insisted the mandate was not a tax. Roberts says, oh yes it is.

Except it is not a tax. It is a mandate.

The monies from taxes go to government. Obamacare says you either have to buy something from a non-governmental corporation or pay a penalty to the goverment.

Roberts has hewn to the recent Supreme Court tendency to get the ruling the majority wants by re-writing the meaning of words - in this case, making the mandate into a tax by giving tax a new meaning. Which means he has the same fascistic streak as many of his predecessors and contemporaries.

It’s not a tax, it’s a penalty. The dissent is correct.

Roberts is a product of W Bush, the (second) worst president in American history, and I mean what I say.

So, the federal government can now mandate commerce; they simply need to represent it is a negative tax: Buy this or else get taxed. So much for the US Constitution.

The US Supreme Court also ruled recently that all property is subject to confiscation to be sold for profit of the government with the owner getting what the government decides to give them. Combined with this ruling the property owner can now be taxed the entire amount of the proceeds and receive nothing.

We are now literal slaves to the government.

Since the federal government refuses to obey the constitution we should too! REVOLT!!!

That's two in a row against liberty from Justice Roberts. Considering how obozo rules along with his silent bosses from Chicago, I surmise Roberts was made an offer he could not refuse. Mike Savage acknowledged the other day, the conservatives in the Congress are pushed into a corner and held there from fear. This is all about the New World Order folks.

We’ve just learned a lesson. From now on, we just redefine words and we get what we want. We’ll be able to think up thousands of scenarios where we can apply this. Even murder can be defined as a “failure to communicate”!

Don’t want to see obozo’s face gloating but I do want to see Pelosi come out and say she was wrong about the commerce clause!!!!!

FRiend, I was quoting the Constitution.

It’s not my world, but rather that of the Founders. They gave Congress that power. They gave us the power to elect Congress.

That’s just how it works, whether you like it or not.

Roberts essentially said that the Constitution doesn’t keep Congress from doing stupid stuff:

“We do not consider whether the Act embodies sound policies. That judgment is entrusted to the Nation’s elected leaders. We ask only whether Congress has the power under the Constitution to enact the challenged provisions.”

Most so-called “Conservative” politicians do not believe in conservatism at all, they just try to label themselves as “conservative” as a cynical ploy to get elected.

FRiend, I was quoting the Constitution.

While ignoring the dictionary. The Consitution can become anything when SCOTUS justices can change the meaning of the very words contained within.

You are so correct. Although Savage used the term conservatives, more correctly the term constitutionalists or patriots would be more fitting.
