State Officials Don't Like Scientists Report on Windmill Noise; Write Their Own Rules
Michigan Capitol Confidential ^ | 7/7/2012 | Jack Spencer

Posted on 07/07/2012 4:24:38 PM PDT by MichCapCon

A panel of experts who were appointed to work toward noise level guidelines for wind turbines in Michigan had their work discarded when state bureaucrats didn't like what the panel was coming up with and made up their own rules instead.

As a result, there is now no specific state recommended decibel level limit for wind turbines. This means wind turbines can operate at 55 dBA (decibels adjusted to reflect the ear's response to sound), which is the standard Michigan had followed for at least two years. The panel was promoting reducing that level to 40 dBA...

Wind blows, just not when you need it.

If anyone wants to be added to the Michigan Cap Con ping list, let me know.

I can see why Red Ted Kennedy didn’t want those things built anywhere near him. Eyesores. They are like an advertisement for Amerika on Drugs.

They're a LOT louder than most people think. They make a very loud sounding "whoosh whoosh." You can hear them for miles.
My husband and I were talking about these things just the other day. They have some in the next county.

When their breaks fail and they explode and catch fire, they’re a nice source of light for awhile.

I was spending the night in a new lodge near Blackwater Falls SP. It was on the side closest to Canaan Valley.

I woke during the night, and when retiring again, was amazed at this dull roar I was hearing.

The next day, I took a ride 15 miles away and found a bunch of these contraptions, littering the mountaintops. Several were idle, while one close to the highway had a hatch open and was swinging/clanking with every revolution.

What a bunch of crap. GE was prominently represented, as was the Chicago Energy Exchange (Hmmmmm, GE, Chicago?) in the deal to make this happen, along with lots of tax subsidies and political goodwill...

A waste of money and an abomination as well!

The technology is there - more efficient and much more quiet. Very good for urban/fringe areas:

Looks like they cut a whole lot of trees down too. I hope they did an environmental impact study first!

55 dB, I wonder, at what distance? At the source, that’s nothing. At a nearby home, that’s maddening.
