Obama has taken over most of the auto industry, all of the banking industry, and all of the transportation industry. But the biggest threat of all is his determination to take over education, and he is doing it without congressional approval.

As of this writing, only two states have had the courage to reject this blatant attempt to take control of education in this country. Only a couple of decades ago, the only federal involvement in education, apart from racially integrating schools, was the school lunch program. Who could be against feeding hungry kids, and yet the program has become a monumental well-intentioned waste of money? Then came the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) that took control of teaching and disciplining all ESE (read ADHD) kids who make up about one-tenth of the school population. Concurrent with this intrusion was the Justice Departments suing (bullying) many states to make accommodations for non-English speaking students with programs like ESOL. These mandates, along with many other (supposedly) well-meaning semi-voluntary (funds attached) programs for things like sex education and anti-bullying, have come with a heavy cost in additional personnel needed, as well as precious time thats been neglected in teaching academics. However, the grand prize of curriculum control is still to be awarded.
And when the federal government writes curriculum standards, whose standards do you think they will be? You better believe that they will reflect the values of the Washington D.C. leftists contrary to those we hold dear in Red State America. We got a taste of this in the 90s when the Department of Education tried to ram U.S. History standards down our throats. Once the curriculum came to light, most citizens were so outraged at this leftist version of history, that the U.S. Senate voted it down 99-0. Unfortunately, these standards havent gone away, and theyve crept back into our textbooks anyway through pressure from educators. With the new National Common Core Standards, they will be mandatory.
We can change this, just like we did in the 90s, but weve got to take action now. If you dont think what kids learn in school will affect your life, then just look at what government policy, and the politicians who wrote those policies have done to America the past two decades. Weve given the EPA unprecedented power to regulate our lives because of fictitious environmental threats, largely embraced a socialist worldview in our economy, looked the other way as gay marriage and the gay agenda have become mainstream, and worst of all, elected a governing majority who are not just liberal, theyre downright anti-American. It says much about the ignorance of the electorate in our nation an electorate educated in public schools. Abraham Lincoln said that the philosophy of the classroom today will be the philosophy of government tomorrow. If we let the federal government have control of a national curriculum, just imagine what kind of nightmare we will be living under a government of the people we will educate with that curriculum.
This is exactly what’s in the communist manifesto. Look it up.
Lost cause. Vouchers are our only hope.
In the Jubilee year, all slaves are freed and all debts are forgiven.
Everyone starts off with a clean slate.
The older I get, the more impossible it seems to "correct" all the wrongs that have been done TO America and IN America.
Ronald Reagan, George Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson and any number of other good men, if one man could become all of them, and that man was president ... HE could not correct nor turn back the dial.
And if Jubilee is a Biblical concept/event, then only God can fix us.
I guess I'm just feeling a little weak and defeated
I have thought that as well. There is almost too much to turn around to make saving this country feasible. I hope I’m wrong. Our best case scenerio is a long slow process. Worth it, IMHO, but it will be a long long hard process.
This administration wants us to feel weak and defeated. Once this happens, they have us right where they want us. I don’t know what the answer is but I’ll be damned if I’ll turn over my fathers country to them without a fight.
FreeRepublic is my school, my drug, my counselor, my party, my friend, my enemy, my advocate .. and a ton of etcetera's.
So I occasionally cross over the bridge that spans troubled waters.
It has been going on for YEARS.....VOUCHERS are the best...or HOMESchooling
It’s normal to feel that way, but since people like us are the only hope left for America, we can’t give in. Only 3% of the population supported the American Revolution - the others were content with King George’s security than sacrifice for the cause of liberty. The battle will be won on our knees first, and then in the voting booths, courtrooms and legislatures of this country. Do not be silent.
They already own the schools. As far as curriculum goes.
Accept federal money, they own ya.
Dang, I just learned about UN Agenda 21 three weeks ago and now I learn about this!
The totalitarian socialist takeover lead by Obama is coming faster than I can even keep up with it.
And still we have Freepers screaming “Don’t vote for Romney!”.
It would take 3 consecutive conservative administrations to undo the damage Obama has done in one term. Romney is a RINO and won’t be doing much to clean up after Obama. We have to hope we get conservative leadership in the House and Senate. I’m not holding my breath.
Folks, this doesn’t end well. Everybody should write a letter to their grandchildren documenting what is happening today and hand it down in your wills so they will at least understand what liberty is, so they have something to demand in the future. Roll the letter up and put it into a rifle barrel with 1000 rounds of ammo and bury it in the yard with instructions to dig it up when your grandchildren turn 18.
Man, this does not end well. I never thought I would see totalitarian fascism in my lifetime, but it is coming fast. Much faster than I expected.
