Violence in Films and Killing Sprees: Why it's Time to Say NO to Hollywood's Offerings
Consequential Commentary ^ | 7-21-12 | Mary C. Kirchhoff

Hollywood consistently churns out movies that are filled with very graphic and gory violence. While I'm not blaming them for what this sick killer did, let's face it: we live in a culture that embraces violence. How do we embrace it? By paying our hard earned money to see movies where people are shot with guns, mutilated, killed and blown up on a regular basis.

The lack of parenting plays the biggest part.

And heavy metal music was going to make me a devil worshiper.

It didn’t because I had responsible parents who paid enough attention to prod me along the way.

The liberals in Hollywood all want gun control yet all they do in the movies is depict completely gratuitous use of guns

By all means, the actions of the lowest common denominator among us must define us all.

That way, we can all be presumed criminals.

It makes controlling and disposing of us so much easier.

Back in the 1940’s, movies were much more wholesome — and hardly anyone got killed in that decade!

If seeing violence in media causes people to become violent, then how does one explain the paradox of the Japanese?

Many of their films and even some of their anime and manga are often filled with images of the most gut-churning violence you can think of, quite a bit of it strongly associated with sexual overtones. I’m talking the kind of things that would likely make Jeffrey Dahmer and the Marquis de Sade physically ill.

So then why is Japan not a literal hell-on-earth? Why are the Japanese not all slaughtering each other in the most vile and obscene ways that even most the depraved minds cannot imagine?

If certain Japanese films, anime, or manga were well-known in the USA (outside of a few aficionados of such peculiar things) I can imagine a lot of people would be screaming bloody murder (no pun intended) about it.

The one question is, why are the Japanese seemingly impervious to such hideous depictions in their popular culture?

How about 18 or older to see any films/movies that show any type of gun violence or violence in general.

Maybe it would force hollyweird into making more family oriented films.

Hehehe, I see what you did there :)

Violence doesn't bother me so much as to context of the violence. Same way with anything going on in a movie, violence, sex, drug use, etc. If the gangbanger, prostitute, and junky are portrayed in a negative way and not uplifted then I don't have a problem. That and what others have said about parenting.

If it's legal people can spend their hard earned labor any way they want to.

Are we going to ban movies and video games now because of a nut ball?

I respectfully disagree that the lack of parenting produces a psychopath. Maybe in some cases, such as some of our serial killers, who were known to be abused. But to blame it on the parents? No.
