DUmmie FUnnies 07-21-12 (DUmmies defend Obama's "If you've got a business, you didn't build that.")
DUmmie FUnnies ^ | July 21, 2012 | DUmmies and Charles Henrickson

Posted on 07/21/2012 4:57:46 PM PDT by Charles Henrickson

"If you've got a DUFU, you didn't write that. The DUmmies made that happen."

As part of the Democrats' War on Success, here is what King Obama the Stupid said recently:

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

"If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." Yes, he said it. And the CONTEXT? King Obama uses the PRETEXT of "roads and bridges," etc., to gin up class warfare and to justify "asking" the wealthy, who already pay way more in taxes than anyone else--to make them pay EVEN MORE, so that the federal government can spend that money, NOT on roads and bridges, but on their wealth-redistributing, Democrat-voter-pleasing, spending schemes.

So let's see how the DUmmies try to spin this to defend Dear Leader. Lots and lots of threads to choose from, we'll select from a few, starting with this THREAD, "There is not a single business owner in this country who got where they are 100% on their own." DUmmies in Bolshevik Red, humble guest correspondent Charles Henrickson in [Barackets], you know the drill. And away we go!

There is not a single business owner in this country who got where they are 100% on their own

[Well, DUh, Captain Obvious. But to jump from that truism to where the Obamarxist is going with this, that is quite a leap.]

For starters, somebody gave them an education.

[Nobody "gave" me an education. Not only did my family pay taxes for the government schools, they also, since they wanted me to get a GOOD education, sent me to parochial schools, for which we had to pay even more. So, strike one . . .]

They had to get their startup money from somewhere. Either through their family, friends, or a bank loan.

[Fine. No problem. That's all private-sector stuff. IOW, what conservatives support. Strike two . . .]

They made use of public infrastructure - roads, bridges, seaports, airports, etc.

[For which they taxes. And in larger amounts than anyone else. Strike three. You're out. But I know that won't stop you . . .]

No one exists in a vacuum.

[But vacuous minds do exist in DUmmieland.]

I think this is a bad argument to make. Suppose I built a house from the ground up - laid the cement, set up the walls, joists and put on the roof and siding and drywall. I did all that work and I am gonna be proud of what I built. For somebody who has never built anything to say "you didn't build that yourself" seems a) argumentive, and b) it belittles all of the work that I have done.

[Suppose c) you get tombstoned, for being a LOUSY FREEPER TROLL!!!]

So now after I did all this work, society is going to take half of it just because other people cut the boards (and then sold them to me) and made the nails and hammers and saws and drills and levels (and then sold them to me) and paid for the highways (and so did I) that they were transported over and paid for the schools (and so did my parents) etc. Myself, I just do not care to denigrate hard work, and starting and running a business can be hard work. . . .

[OK, DUmmie hfojvt, with over 29,000 posts, maybe you aren't an LFT. You could just be a DUmmie having a Brief Moment of Mental Clarity, in which case I must award you . . . a Kewpie Doll! . . . which, by the way, you did not build, somebody else made that.]

Obama should have vetted the speech. . . .

[It's the teleprompter's fault!]

He's not getting votes with this speech, sad to say, only losing them more and giving ammunition to the other side.

[Sorry, only one Kewpie per thread.]

F*** the business community.

[Spoken like a true DUmmie! Who needs all those silly jobs anyway?]

There's a winning campaign slogan.

[I detect a note of sarcasm.]

No one out there created a business without relying on goods and services that were provided in part by my tax dollars.

[Woo-hoo! A winning argument!]

Or their own. . . .

[Or maybe not.]

"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money" ~ Cree Indian Proverb

[Probably written by Elizabeth Warren.]

We all stand on the shoulders of those who came before.

[Mao, Lenin, Marx. . . .]

We humans, really are not, little islands of knowledge and skill and duty and effort.

[Particularly you DUmmies.]

Only a small fraction of government spending goes to things that help business. The largest share of federal government spending is transfer payments, e.g. SS, Medicare, Medicaid and various welfare programs.

[Stop it! You're destroying the Roads and Bridges Argument!]

personally, I think it was a dumb thing to say.

[The president acted stupidly.]

Did the Prez make a faux pas about small businesses in a recent campaign stump?

[If he made a faux pas, he didn't do that. The Rethuglicans made that happen.]

I actually think he was referring to the roads and bridges. . . .

It is obvious that he was referring to roads, bridges. . . .

Obama was saying you didn't build the roads. . . .

[The Roads scholars check in.]

DEMS: Don't explain, DOUBLE DOWN!

[DEMS: Don't explain, DUMB IT DOWN!]

SPINE! SPINE! SPINE! SPINE! SPINE!

[SPIN! SPIN! SPIN! SPIN! SPIN!]

Obama....WAKE UP! Say something!

[Say something DUmb again! Yes, when you find yourself in a hole, dig deeper! C'mon, Obama, you're shovel-ready!]

I feel compelled to (very partially) come to his defense.

I have known successful people who were, IMO, excessively arrogant as to the extent to which they had “earned” their success, with the implicit statement that anybody who hadn’t been as successful equally deserved their lack of success.

Inborn talents and abilities have a great deal to do with success, as does one’s upbringing. None of this is in and of itself something a person is personally responsible for. The extent to which they take advantage of their opportunities, but seldom the opportunities themselves.

There is also a massive amount of luck involved in the degree of success. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs would have in 1800 or 1900 in all likelihood been modestly successful. World-bestriding accomplishments had much to do with their particular abilities being those that fit the times. In earlier centuries, not so much.

We have also all known those who have gained “success” by lying, cheating and backstabbing. That’s not really something to be proud of.

I’m sure I don’t mean by this what Obama and his ilk do, but I still think those who are successful should try to retain some element of humility, not succumbing to what the Greeks called hubris. And at the same time not despising those who have not achieved the same degree of success. There may be very good reasons, and in their shoes the successful guy might not have done any better.

Hussein was just trying to keep the class warfare ginned up for the election. Or maybe he wants to make sure the rioters target pleanty of businesses when he goes down in flames.

Preaching to the parasites that they somehow contributed something meaningful to society and commerce is just another way of confirming to the takers that they’re entitled, by virtue of the fact that they draw breath, to the fruits of another’s labor.

It’s always the same message, just served with different “nuances” and trimmings.

I know very few business people who would dare to say that they had no help; however, that help came from family and friends or private entities such as banks. Dear Reader’s argument is that success is permitted by the state and that all you have is the result of the state allowing you to obtain it.

Yes -- first by the blood of Revolution and through the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, whom his ilk are so ready to dismiss .... Then, via the enterprise, ingenuity & hard work of countless Americans in our history seeking to improve their lives, and in so doing providing opportunity for their fellow citizens and the following generations.

You didn't write your sermon for tomorrow, Father Mapple did. But WAIT! Father Mapple didn't deliver that sermon, Orson Welles did. But WAIT! Orson Welles didn't write that sermon, Herman Melville did. But WAIT! Herman Melville couldn't have written "Moby Dick" had his mother not given birth to him. But WAIT! Melville's mother couldn't have given birth to him if she hadn't been introduced to his father by Marty the bartender. But WAIT! Marty the bartender wouldn't have even been a bartender if Lars Larsen hadn't opened the Big Swede Bar. But WAIT! Lars Larsen was a dissipated alcoholic who couldn't have gotten his life together to open a bar without counseling by his pastor, Charles Henrickson.

Okay, so then it does look like you did write that sermon to be delivered tomorrow.

Actually you can "give" people the best education available but if they don't take advantage of it, they won't learn much. My best education actually came on my own while in the college reading room just leafing through books.

Well, actually, that would be true! I have not written a sermon for tomorrow. I'm taking a vacation Sunday, and someone is filling in for me.

I'm up in Chicago right now, staying at a friend's house. We're both lifelong Cubs' fans, and tomorrow we're going to watch Ron Santo's induction into the Hall of Fame.

What Obama was using was a bit of absurd reductive reasoning. It’s like saying if I wrote a best-seller using a pen or a pencil, because I didn’t make the the pen or pencil, I really didn’t write that book. The people who manufactured the pen or pencil deserve a share of the profits off my book. That’s the “logic” of Obama’s argument. They should never let him off the teleprompter.

"done any better"

Yes, but every sane person knows that. Americans are rich because we live in America. We know that if we were living in a third-world pesthole, the chances of it happening would be slim or none.

Nevertheless, it's beside the point. If you have a system where a scoundrel like Obama can take your money because you didn't create all the conditions that allowed you to make a lot of money, then there's no such thing as private property. Agreeing with Obama's "logic" means he can take as much of your money as he wants.

Yeah! I actually knew a preacher who does that. The flea market preacher out of Georgia. I met him at a flea market a few years ago on a Saturday and he sold me a fanny pack. He told me that he travels the country selling at flea markets on Saturdays and on Sundays he pinch hits when other preachers take the day off.

I had a weird fantasy that I did not write a sermon for you BUT I did write the subject of your sermon and then you write it up any way you want. It could be fun. Just for once in awhile. For example, I would like to make the subject of a sermon: "Can You Fit Everything You Own Into ONE Suitcase?"

Just about everybody would say NO but, in fact, everything in the universe according to science actually fit into an infinitesimally small space at the beginning of time (Big Bang). So fitting everything someone owns into a suitcase should be a piece of cake.

The problem with your argument is extrapolating it over the vast segment of the business community. Sure, we’ve all met arrogant business people. But does that mean they represent the majority? And, how often do we mistake arrogance for confidence? After all, it’s all in our perception.

No, Obama had no, absolutely no, basis on which to say this beyond his own perception of reality. He’s never built anything worthwhile. His whole existence is based on his being supported by others. If it wasn’t for the George Soros’ or Democratic Parties of this world, where would he be? (I’m sure there are others but I’ll let that go for now...)

So, we’re supposed to be critical of business professionals, when we have a know-nothing, do-nothing, socialist president who believes nothing is ever proper if it doesn’t have government approval? The Hell with that.

How dare you defame Lars Larson like that? Just because he opened a bar (with that name, probably in Wisconsin...) and endeavored to be successful. Who do you think you are, the president? Lars, Swen, Ole, they’re all good, down-home, Americans...

Lars’ milk cow had passed on to her proper reward so he was in need of another milk cow. He saw in the local paper that Ole Peterson in Minnesota had a milk cow for sale, so he traveled there to talk business.

Ole said “Sure, I got a fine cow. Ya want to milk her?”
Lars said “OK”, and settled down in the barn to begin milking.

But every time Lars would pull on a teat, the cow would fart. After a while Lars said “ Well, the cow looks pretty good to me, I guess I’ll take her”.

Ole responded, “Well, that’s good. I kinda t’ought her farting would be a problem”.

Lars replied, “Oh, that’s OK, my wife’s from Minnesota”...

But I digress. Marty was indeed a bartender. In fact, he owned the bar. And, I’d been a customer for a couple years when Mom said, “OK, as a birthday present, we’re going to Marty’s and have a beer”. Imagine when we walked in the door and she said “Give Jim a beer on his 21st birthday”. Marty just smiled and handed one over. True story (and not the only one I could tell)...

Now, you know the rest of the story - at least some of it... :)

Ah yes - I remember it well!

Let me recount ...

After my voluntary Military Service in 1960, I knocked a girl up, and married her.

Then I went to night-school to become an Engineer for Eight years, and I made it!

In the meantime, I worked at-and-for FoMoCo, T.D.Shea, and FoMoCo, and they helped me with the tuition costs, and I helped them with some damned-fine innovations! I am a clever engineer.

In 1969 I moved to South Bend, IN.

In 1978 I started http://www.bamarplastics.com

We’re still in business.

Did the gummint start my business?

NO! I DID!!!

That gummint fined me $600 for having a can of ‘Raid’ that was not labeled properly!

I’ve got 39 people to protect! VOTE THE HALFRICAN OUT in November!

Case closed! ................................. FRegards

The bartender could have been my Uncle Marty who was a bartender. Actually he was known as the bartender’s bartender. Not only did he look every inch a bartender but he also had a vast repertoire of jokes that he told the customers. The Mob used to like to hang out at Uncle Marty’s bar. Once in awhile he would make a phone call to them to ask a favor. I knew when that happened because for some reason he called himself “Mike,” not Marty, when he identified himself over the phone.

My Marty could have been related to Lars, Swen or Ole, based on his surname. We lived in a small resort community in southeastern WI that surrounded two lakes. (Some bored individual with too much time on their hands could probably figure out the name of the community from that description.)

Many of the homes were summer homes, and the population of around 2000 would swell to over 7000 in the summer months. Virtually all of them coming from the greater Chicago area.

It wasn’t Lake Geneva, but close, 12 miles away in fact. But I did spend a lot of time at the Lake Geneva Playboy Club so I saw my share of “Bunnies” over time. Even worked with a former Bunny at one time. Never did see Hef, though. Played those two courses a number of times.

One Friday evening I was driving home through Lake Geneva and stopped off at the Playmate Bar for a drink. Jack E. Leonard, the comedian, was appearing that weekend, and happened to be in the playmate bar at some tables, with a retinue of people. They were the only ones in the dining area. I was at the bar, but could hear everything he said, he was that loud. And obnoxious to boot. The guy was a real jerk. The bartender wasn’t appreciating it himself, and understood when I finished my drink and made a quick exit.

Now for the rest of the story. One of my buddies, who lived in Niles, IL but who’s parents also owned a summer home in my town, knew of my run-in with Jack E. Leonard. One weekend he showed up at my house with a story.

His family operated a limousine service in the Chicago area, along with other business interests, and my buddy was one of several drivers for a theater opening in Chicago. He told me about having picked up Jack E. Leonard at his hotel, taking him to the theater.

Again, Leonard was absolutely obnoxious in the vehicle and my buddy had enough of him. It was a very rainy evening, and when they arrived at the theater, he parked across the street instead of next to the theater canopy, making Leonard walk through the rain.

Just before pulling away, there was a knock on his driver’s window, and it was the limo driver for Frank Sinatra who was also arriving at the theater. My buddy rolled down his window and Sinatra’s driver handed him a $100 bill saying “Mr. Sinatra wants you to have this. He can’t stand the SOB either”.

I got a laugh out of this story for sure, but it was given real credence when, many years later I saw a TV special about Sinatra, that told of his generosity toward people. It noted he carried $100 bills on him, and would give one to an associate, to have it delivered to someone he felt had done him a good turn; a waiter, bell-boy, whoever. That just cemented my buddy’s story in my mind. Not that I had reason to doubt him.

"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money" ~ Cree Indian Proverb

[Probably written by Elizabeth Warren.]

LOL...

I actually think he was referring to the roads and bridges. . . .

psst...DUmmies, read American history... the roads were built by people who started roads... most of the famous roads in the Eastern part of the US (ie Rt 1 in Connecticut) was built by 'Turnpike Companies'.

It is obvious that he was referring to roads, bridges. . . .

So... read above DUmmies..

Obama was saying you didn't build the roads. . . .

Neither did the GOVERNMENT, DUmmies. My Taxes did...

[The Roads scholars check in.]

LOL...
