Greenland Ice Melt every 150 years is ‘right on time’
Watts Up With That? ^ | July 24, 2012 | Anthony Watts

Posted on 07/24/2012 7:44:35 PM PDT by Rocky

“Ice cores from Summit show that melting events of this type occur about once every 150 years on average. With the last one happening in 1889, this event is right on time,” says Lora Koenig, a Goddard glaciologist and a member of the research team analyzing the satellite data.

-----------------------------------

I covered this over the weekend when Bill McKibben started wailing about the albedo going off the charts. I thought it might be soot related. The PR below and quote above is from NASA Goddard. I had to laugh at the title of their press release, where they cite “Unprecedented Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Melt”, then contradict themselves when the main researcher goes on to say “melting events of this type occur about once every 150 years on average. With the last one happening in 1889“. Do these guys even read their own press releases? Climatologist Pat Michaels concurs saying: “Apparently NASA should start distributing dictionaries to the authors of its press releases.”

I’ve sent off a note to the NASA writer, seen here. Maybe she’ll get the headline fixed.

I guess a lot of people probably won't read more than the headline, so the warmist alarmists will continue to mislead a lot of people.

The melting got it’s own segment on ABC news tonight. No mention of it happening every 150 years.

It makes me sad to think that the ijits at ABC don’t want to think beyond their bias.

But, it makes me sadder and madder to think that they only care about twisting the truth to influence those who are not bright enough to question the pablum they are being spoon-fed.

My greatest fear is that it is the latter.

And, this is my greatest fear about the coming election. Too many just don’t know what they don’t know, and they don’t care, as long as someone keeps the pablum coming.

Greenland Ice Melt every 150 years is ‘right on time’

You mean they had global warming 150 years ago too!

Rocky, Rocky, Rocky.

This is the old “Man bites Dog” is news, but “Dog bites Man” is not news journalism rule.

Lighten up! This is the world of Junk Science, as reported by those who Journal for the sheer joy of it!

Actually, Real Science is just to hard to understand in a 30 second news story.

ABC is in the business to sell advertising on the few minutes a night that they have time for news.

So here you are Rocky, a budding journalist and your editor says write a headline to sell some ads AND hold the attention of the surfing audience.

Which do you send to your Editor?

1.) “Melting events of this type occur about once every 150 years on average.”

2.) “Unprecedented Greenland Ice Sheet Surface Melt”

# 1 is really boring, and # 2 is full of fear and adventure!

# 2 wins in the race for the ad dollar, every time - - - .

Interestingly enough, you will find that a lot of American cities had record flooding from 1888-1894 as well. We learned to build dikes, use low lying areas for parkland and recreational areas and build our bridges higher.

Then there's the summer of 1816 (Year Without a Summer), which sent scores of New Englanders fleeing to upstate New York and inspired the building of the Erie Canal: cheap labor + new farmlands opened needing cheap transportation to markets along the Hudson = economic benefits of a canal connecting Buffalo and Lake Erie to the Albany and the Hudson River. And all with money raised privately and at the state and local levels.

Before the socialists took power, every natural calamity turned into an economic opportunity.

Now, the socialists subsidize people to rebuild in flood plains and to stay put in pockets of urban economic poverty and even invite foreigners to join them.

It sounds more attractive than Iceland. Greenland is ice and Iceland is green.

We will forever have poverty in our midst because we continue to import an underclass who "only come here to do the jobs nobody else wants to do" just like their kids whom I hear are valedictorians and s#!t. The educated ones aren't here to take the jobs nobody wants. The excuse is ever changing.

Actually, it was named Greenland to draw enemies to it, instead of Iceland, which is also a misnomer. If the enemies of the Viks learned how fertile Iceland was, the original Viks would have had to fight to keep it.

However, since the Viks also “found” Greenland with its glacial interior, they decided a little deception was in order, if only to preserve the island they really wanted to settle.

Greenland was settled for a time, and successfully, for sure. But the quirky weather wasn’t conducive to the settlements with the technology that was available at the time.

Well, it looks like this one is happening about 27 years early.
