Preppers’ PING!
I also put up 2 half pint vacuum packed with oxygen absorbers of black pepper, cinnamon and Italian seasoning. Also put up 4 500count boxes of strike anywhere matches.
Still a useful skill if the SHTF.

Another tip CVS has Dak 1lb. canned hams 2 for $5.00.
Last gun show, 7.62x54r 400 rounds for $75. Still the best price for high power rifle ammunition.
By luck I caught a local supermarket changing hands and closing out discontinued stock.
I bought 6 dozen packs of Kerr and Ball brand canning lids (12 in a pack) for .50 cents each. About half regular and half wide mouth.
A dozen boxes of wide mouth rings & lids at $1.00 each.
A dozen wide mouth quart jars for only $3.00 !!!
And a dozen 1 pound blocks of canning/household wax for .50 cents each.
Now all I need are some of Johnny’s 5 gal buckets of tomatoes!
We’ll put some of this booty to good use when we go to the U-Pick tomato farms later in the year when they finish picking the fall crop.
Gun shows are often a great place for deals on ammo, and accessories...I have faired well in the past 9 months...
Bought a 100 lbs of white, long grain rice in 5 lb bags for $3.00 a bag. The bags are a heavy duty plastic, and I have some 6 1/2 gal steel cans that will hold 4 of these bags. We have a ‘Country Salvage’ outlet store run by Amish not far from us (20 mi). We shop there frequently and find some real bargains, and much of it is not ‘out of date’.
Look around where you might be, there can be some good deals like this near you.
We find canned beans, tomatoes, olive oil (2 pts, $5.00 this week), and many other things that will keep ‘forever’ in the near future...that future for which we are prepping.
They have many other things that will help a person reduce their grocery spending, not all of which is for long term storage.
Tomorrow I plan to burn through half of it.
I keep meaning to look for a 5-pack crate of Mosins along with a bunch of those.

I have 4 now. They are a fun gun to work with.

Research into the top of the line products on the market shows three main contenders: Kohlers 14KW RES Standby Generator, The Generac Guardian, and the Northstar Tri-fuel Generator.
We already have multiple 6kw and up portable gas units, and now want to build an enclosed ready to boogie standby unit that can run gas/diesel/propane as the need requires.
Has anyone installed these or similar generators, or have any insight on the systems?
I never thought I would come to admit it, but I like some of the dried noodles being sold today.
I remember those early gawd awful Ramen noodles sold years ago. Well, that was years ago, with the different brands and varieties sold today, there are some very good ones. And, they have one heck of a shelf life.
So the wife and I have stocked up considerably on them and rotate in and out.
Of minor interest the Walmart store in Wasilla, AK had a very very large shipment of the Augason Farms number 6 cans of dehydrated foods last month and are almost sold out, but the stock isn’t being re-stocked. being that they have never been seen in Alaska before they sold quite fast, myself I have just over 50 cans myself.
Hopefully Walmart will get another shipment. Shipping to Alaska has made them too expensive before for most people.
funny thing is Alaskans traditionally stock up for the long winter months, usually from Costco. I was very happy to see this product and I may even buy some more tomorrow before they are all gone.
I purchased 500 Red Japanese Shrub Rose seeds so I would have a source of vitamin C. The shrubs grow 6 ft tall and are covered with thorns so also provide a dense barrier to slow down intruders (hopefully).
Thanks for the ping, Kart!
I have only just returned from a weekend at the Redneck Riviera. The Bride had the weekend off from the Police Academy, and we all met up there to have a little fun. Got the guided tour of Panama City, Mexico beach, and Tyndall AFB.
What amazed me up there was the land. Dense pine forests far as the eye could reach. Acres of arable, usable land for crops or pasture. Lots of potential hide locations far from the zombies and useless eaters.
Prices on things are a reasonable markup, given the location and the remoteness of certain areas, but nothing really budget-busting.
Really got the gears churning, this weekend.
Glad you had a good time in our area.
Looking for some tips on some good long-term storage food and ammo. Picked up a couple firearms a month back or so (Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun and Hi-point .45ACP Carbine).
Questions would be (1)long-term food (MRE versus freeze dried sites & (2) ammo sites (or would everyone just recommend a gun show purchase next time they roll through (which is often - I live in Kansas). I am currently in an apartment so space is an issue to a degree. Any help's appreciated up-front.
