Posted on 07/31/2012 5:05:45 AM PDT by Trafalgar123
Walking home this morning, I saw a frizzy-haired mother with a lefty vibe and Savonarola expression. Her young son ran in front of her, chasing pigeons. I listened, awestruck, as she admonished him thusly: "In your next life, I hope you come back as a pigeon, so you know what that feels like." Confused, the boy said, "What?" She repeated her wisdom in sterner tones.
I'm dazzled by her genius at packing several soul-crushing blows into one sentence:
1) You're going to be reincarnated as punishment
2) Your mother eagerly awaits your eternal punishment
3) Walk robotically by my side at all times and make no impromptu moves
4) Birds don't like to fly
Now that I think about it, she looked like a teacher. She probably gets to do this to 30 kids all day long.

i get this reference, but it's a pretty obscure one to use! cool though.
Liberals HATE kids, even their own. They’re just obstacles to the free-sex and party life that they really crave.
Ok, maybe a bit over the top (just a bit). But seriously, would ANY parent that truly loved their kids subject them to our public schools, like the vast majority of liberal parents do?
And then people are surprised that young white men shoot up college campuses and movie theaters. With that kind of parenting, I’m surprised we don’t have many more incidents than we do.
This stellar “parent” then gets in her SUV and heads to the store and in route she talks and texts, cuts off and tail gates other drivers and while in the parking lot she cuts off someone else in an attempt to get as close to the front door as possible. These ubiquitous type people make me want to puke
The majority of liberal women aren't having any kids. They even have a term for it: child-free. It is very positive and empowering for them, I'm sure.
The downside for us is that becase they don't have any kids of their own to indoctrinate, they will attempt to indoctrinate other people's children instead. If the children of the conservative parents that I know are any indication, they are doing a great job of it. Almost the entire lot of them are entitled, preening, wanton little snots.
It's no wonder children today are ruined.
Except for the bizarre reference to reincarnation, what’s the fuss about?
Many boys are selfish and cruel toward animals as they discover their superiority and power over them. Most grow out of it with instruction and maturity, and develop a heart that is tender and protective of the weak.
I’d say this mother loves her son enough to instruct him, albeit from a flawed perspective.
Well I would say this may be her(from a local classified)
Loving Soul To Spend Time With Our Daughter Manchester, CT 06042 Occasional (as needed)
Hi there, my daughter will be turning 4 in August. We’ve never really had a babysitter for her, other than my parents, but I am feeling like it would be really nice to have another person or 2 we could call upon to watch her when we have plans, events, etc that come up. Here’s a bit about us: I am an artist & living food chef. I also teach classes and do consults. Her dad does freelance film work, so his schedule is different every week, he is not always here. My daughter is with me most of the time right now. We eat mostly raw, mostly vegetarian, super food-enriched, nutrient-dense diet, food is sacred & we really care about what we put in our bodies. We love to have tea parties, make lots of art, we have a big garden in our front yard, we’re very Eco-friendly, pretty crunchy kinda people.. One requirement I have for anyone coming into my home is no chemicals/fragrances, as I am pretty sensitive, no perfumes, scented body care products (aside from natural essential oils), fabric softeners, etc. We use all natural everything. My daughter is a magical little love, she’s super independent, intelligent, and knows what she wants and does not want, she has always been that way. She loves art, playing outside, riding her bike, gardening, water, sand, animals, reading, singing, helping. She wants her hands in everything I’m doing. We’ve practiced attachment parenting with her from the start, so it would be great if you had an understanding of that, we’ve nursed, co-slept, cloth-diapered, we always wore her in carriers, we are very holistically-minded. We’ve also been learning about NVC & trying to use that in our communications. Even since before my daughter was born, I’ve been very attracted to Waldorf education & Rudolf Steiner and it is totally in alignment with our values and passions. I would love to find someone to spend time with her who is really passionate about teaching and guiding in a child-led kind of way, and who maybe knows something about Waldorf-style education, and who is creative, fun and kind. I am really looking for someone who understands our values about food, eco-friendliness, parenting, communicating, etc and preferably is living in a similar way. As far as payment goes, we can pay in $, and I often barter as well sometimes, if that’s something you’re interested in. Raw foods, etc. Thank you! Blessings & Blissings!
to me, the worst part is the opening to the “you are going to die” truth which to a child is just under “Mommy & Daddy will die”.
“The downside for us is that becase they don’t have any kids of their own to indoctrinate, they will attempt to indoctrinate other people’s children instead.”
Yea - they self-appoint themselves as “child-experts”, write books, take over our schools, etc.
And we conservatives, in large number at least, march our kids RIGHT INTO THEIR JAWS, thinking that they “must be good people”, just trying to help us make their kids into good, American, adults.
Considering that "mom" is a walking, talking (incessantly?) pile of neuroses, I can't say that I blame him ... He should have thought of that, though, before he procreated with her. His poor daughter is likely to grow up even more screwed up than "mom".
“I’m dazzled by her genius at packing several soul-crushing blows into one sentence: “
6) Your mother is an idiot
There are some relatives of mine who hate/hated their own kids and they aren’t liberals.
Parents say lots of things without thinking. Maybe the mother was simply exasperated with her child’s antics and had already told him not to do it before the author came along. Maybe she was tired and the boy was being a little b*stard; Kids do that, you know. Then again, maybe she is an idiot and a tree hugging nutbag. Maybe it’s all of these at once. I wasn’t there so it’s hard to say.
I just know I had to Google “Savonarola.”
The rest of us grow up to become hunters.
Ah, you’ve met my wife!
That’s why I always drive.
Strange as it may seem, when I was quite young I asked mom why she liked the white meat on chicken better than the dark. She said it was because it is much juicier. I questioned her wisdom from that day forward.
You can only imagine how much I've questioned others...LOL
I hope this boy wakes up soon.
On the way to a family function, I dropped her off at Walmart (the entrance on the right side of the building). I thought I was making it easier for all of us by parking in a handicapped spot.
After 20 minutes of sitting in 100+ degree heat (windows open, of course), I pulled out my cell phone to ascertain exactly where in Hades she was. Turns out she had been waiting at the other entrance for at least 10 minutes, and she was not at all pleased about it.
I pulled up to the side, and she was assisted by an attendant in loading the few bags she had. She says it was eight, but you know how liberal are the cashiers are with the bags at Walmart.
After ragging on me for several minutes as to how inattentive I was (cars were blocking my view of the other entrance, and I was expecting her to come out of the original entrance), she launched into a mild tirade on our son, for not helping her load the bags in the car. I didn't think it was such a big thing, as we were in the fire lane, not the parking area.
I felt bad for my son, but I knew it was best to let sleeping dogs lie. Yesterday, we had a good discussion: when Mom's PO'ed, just stay quiet until the storm passes. No matter how "right" you are, you won't win.
The observer should have gone Sigismundo Malatesta on the hippie mom.
OMG. I would not let a child within a hundred miles of those neurotic creatures.
My work schedule allows me every other Monday off. Yesterday, my soon to be 2 YO grandson spent the day with me (and his 10YO uncle).
In the morning, we had a massive Nerf gunfight (breakfast was Lucky Charms & juice, and he ate just the marshmallows). Lunch was spent at Chick Fil A, and the boys spent an hour in the play area. That was followed by two hours at the local aquatics center.
He napped all of 15 minutes...after swimming. I had to wake the poor kid up, as his uncle had Taekwondo practice. He was dragging serious butt when his Mom picked him up.
That sounds very much like a family at our church. They have raised their children the same way and are quite arrogant about how much better their kids are than your kids. The father even slipped one time and complained about his kid having to share space with the other “drooling morons” in the church nursery.
The rest of us grow up to become hunters.
I have found hunters to be among the most GENUINELY tender and protective of the weak.
As opposed to the liberal progressive kind that turns off as soon as the camera does.
IMHO, this kind of parenting is child abuse.

God gave us the “pimp smack” for people such as that. I’ve seen the same type, too. Few, but a couple nonetheless.
I have absolutely nothing to do with them.
A boy like this will often show up in my office twenty to forty years later, still a boy in many ways, with one form of inner turmoil or another. I see them all the time.
I will tell him I can help him, but that it will take a year and a half to three years of rather painful therapy, and that he’ll want to drop out many times along the way, BUT - that if he sticks it out I can guarantee he’ll walk out the man he always envied others for being.
And when they stick it out, they do. Just like clockwork. It almost doesn’t matter what we talk about, but we certainly don’t to talk much about the mother who quashed his spirit for her own needs years ago.
The therapy is nothing fancy, but needs to be informed by an understanding of the territory, and the basics of technique. Essentially, we talk about him, who he is, not who his mother wanted him to be. He gradually allows himself to enter the painful void at his core where his sense of worth ought to be - and would be if his mother hadn’t snuffed it out; an empty, lonely, fearful, angry pain so horrible that he has pathologically arranged his whole inner and outer life in an effort to avoid it.
And one day, like clockwork, in a year and a half to three years, for no apparent reason, the result of no clever interpretation or insight from me, he walks in completely changed - a man. He got it. He filled the void his mom left him with, and filled it with things important to him, not her. He walks in like a man. He holds himself like a man. He talks like a man. And it’s solid, unshakable and permanent, and we say our goodbyes like two men, with a solid handshake and a solid look in the eye.
That said, it turns out that every food my mom said was "healthy" is most pointedly NOT heathy, at least not in quantity (think fried meats and potatoes). And almost everything she called "junk food" is actually good for you.
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
It was meant to be tongue in cheek.
I know (knew) people like them! ;-)
As long as Mr. and Mrs. America insist on sending their kids to them, this nation will continue to circle the drain.
Sounds like reasonable parenting to me. The mother was not wishing eternal damnation on her child, but making the point that if he thought about the pigeons, he wouldn’t WANT to behave that way.
BTW - I’ve told my grandkids that if they don’t stop climbing into the dishwasher, I’ll chain them outside and let the coyotes eat them.
Guess I’ve gone from being a horrible failure as a Dad to being a horrible failure as a Granddad.
Yes, the past tense is operative for me as well. Our “crunchy” family opused loudly during Sunday School one day and stormed out forever. I was sick that day and missed it.
And no one had the courtesy to videotape it? Damn!
Did Savonarola wear that cowl to hide frizzy hair?
Whenever I see a boy running ahead of his mother, I whisper “don’t stop; keep running.” His instincts are good. He just needs encouragement.
Why a liberal couple came to a little down-home fire-breathing Baptist church in the first place was beyond me.
Maybe if he came back as a pigeon, he could poop on her head.
I wouldn't assume the mother actually believes in reincarnation or wants her son to come back as an animal or that she's scarred him for life by saying something that implies that he will die some day.
There is maybe a "passive-aggressive" kind of edge to her comment, but tired parents do what they can to make their children a little more thoughtful.
The whole tribal "them against us" thing gives people a chance to unload against the presumed hippy, New Age mother, and that explains what's going on.
