Sadly, having a stockpile of food, weapons, and some slick tactical gear is not enough to ensure a high likelihood of survival, at least not in any of the social collapses that have occurred in the past century around the world. Its a start, but only just
There are a number of detrimental weakness to the survivalist movement and considerable holes in prepper knowledge that must be addressed now while we have the time and relative safety to do so. The greatest threat to the common survivalist is not economic collapse, roving bandits, Blackwater mercenaries, or predator drones; those dangers are a piece of cake compared to the threat of an overblown ego, which will get a man killed faster than the most sophisticated smart bomb. If we cannot accept that there is always more to learn, and room to improve, we have been defeated before we have begun.

I'm living out of the pantry until mid-Sept. Zero cash flow for 2 months now. At least I have the stuff, and know how to use it.
I really didn't want to be THIS good at the skill sets. ;)

I’m stocking up on toilet paper.

I've got plenty of that. After the Y2K toilet paper ran out last year, I looked at current prices, and bought another giant case before prices went any higher. I don't figure the prices are going down before I use it up.

I am just starting out, this article aside-—I am going for my CCL, starting to stockpile (kosher folks!) and buying containers for water and fuel. Who has bought a generator? Is this a good deal? http://1saleaday.com/wireless/ what are the main specs one should look for (durability? Brand name? output?)
(moderator if links to sale sites are not permitted I beg apology after failing to ask permission...)

I have a gas generator that I use in the field while working. If you take good care of it, change the oil, use Sta-bil or run it out of gas every time, keep the filter clean.... they can be ok for a couple of thousand hours.
When I lived in the shack in the mountains and used solar and batteries for electikity... I had a 10 HP diesel to recharge the batteries during extended snow storms when the panels didn't work. That's the best long term solution.
Back here in the outskirts of town, the 5 horse gas genset is good for after the thunderstorms we get that knock out power.
After looking at the advert, it's way too expensive for too little power. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and look at gensets.
5 hp will keep a freezer, fridge, lights, and some fans running.

That’s all fine if you’re out in the boonies, but what about prepping for urban dwellers?
Here’s a list of must haves:
Protest signs
condoms/dental dams
glow sticks
brown/black shoe polish
cell phone (for self-defense)
beret
hard copy of Starbucks gift card
Please feel free to add.

I buy John Wayne toilet paper in bulk. It's cheap, and it discourages over-use.
What, you ask, is John Wayne toilet paper?
It's rough as hell and doesn't take $h!t off of anyone.

You crack me up! Sorry about your hard times. If you’re in the Ohio Valley you can look me up. I’d be honored to help a fellow FReeper, especially one with a fantastic attitude and outlook on life.

That's easy a pack of the softest strongest toilet paper you can find and a pack of the best baby wipes you can buy. That way you A$$ will be nice and clean when you kiss it goodbye!
