Over the past week I have noticed a startling and complete absence of reporting in The Tampa Tribune on any local automobile accidents, criminal activity, thefts, break-ins, prostitution, etc. In short, any unlawful and illegal activity which historically has been a large percentage of the reporting at The Tampa Tribune suddenly has been stricken from the paper. I know for a fact of one incident involving the Tampa shooting death of a man by his son, which occurred earlier this week, because I work with a man who lives next door to the house in which the murder took place. He couldn't get to his house there were so many Sheriff's Deputy vehicles on his street. Also there was a serious automobile accident in our immediate neighborhood where a drunk or drugged driver hit a power transformer with his vehicle, knocking out power to several subdivisions for hours last Thursday night. The driver died immediately from electrocution. But not a word of these two events or any others has appeared in the Tribune. If you read the paper the sanitizing efforts are glaringly obvious. It's gone totally vanilla. But the reason isn't clear. Has an editorial decision been made to stop publicizing the illegalities and misdeeds of minorities, since it is overwhelmingly these populations who are represented in the statistics of who commits these actions? Or does this censoring have something to do with preparation for the Republican Party convention?
Any uptick in crime is part of the “change” Obama promised, and they’re having a hard time on how to spin it. So, don’t report... /s
Has the Leftist Utopia become reality in Tampa?
The less sinister reason may be that they’ve gotten rid of most of their reporters, with most of the news being pulled from the wires with some local ‘reporting’ coming from local press releases.
Maybe they’re keeping them in a folder so they can disgorge them all at once during the GOP Convention, for national consumption.
Have you queried the newspaper about it yet? If so, what was their response?
Media General, owner of The Tampa Tribune, TBO.com and WFLA, News Channel 8, announced layoffs Tuesday to about 75 employees
Doing a search there were a lot of layoffs in 2011 as well.
It’s the Tampa Trib. I would say it’s a mix of liberal ideology with a large helping of old fashioned incompetence. The Trib has both in quantity.
Nah, wouldn’t work. The local yokels would know it was over a great deal of time. If that’s their level of thought, I give them months, rather than years, to remain in business.
The TT has prided itself on being a “local” newspaper and its identity has been self-described as the source for “local” news. And it still has plenty of reporters to enable it to do this. No, something else is going on.
It has become a very safe town?
Ding.ding.ding.
lack of reporters may be the cause. mine-Houston Chronicle- has been bleeding for a few years now. Sometimes they wont say either, you just notice an absence of byline names you were familiar with.
They also replace some of their writer features with
national content. (contract out). The food section went national a few years
ago and no longer do you see ‘southern bent ‘ cooking by
the replaced local writer.
My daughters were almost killed by a drunk driver and a photo journalist from the trib was one of the first on the scene. I searched for days for pics online and in print and there was nothing mentioned. This happened three weeks ago tonight. My children were not hurt but did run over a Lexus engine which ripped my kids car up. Then my oldest extracted the passenger through the sunroof of their wreckage.
Its the RNC...they are trying to put on a pretty face for the national spotlight.
Right, and it’s the downside of the death of newspapers that everyone cheers about.
thank God their guardian angel was on duty.
Cant say. We stopped taking the Tribune years ago and never looked back. It could be that they cannot tie the murders, traffic accidents, drugs, and prostitution to Predident Bush is the reason they stopped reporting them.
