Chicago LGBT activists call for another protest at local Chick-fil-A

Members of the Gay Liberation Network, a local direct-action LGBT rights group, and other LGBT activists have called for a third protest outside of the River North Chick-fil-A — this time on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 4:30 p.m.

“As our movement against Anita Bryant showed a generation ago, even very entrenched bigots can be defeated by smart and effective use of boycotts, demonstrations and other direct mobilizations of LGBTI’s and our allies,” said Andy Thayer of the Gay Liberation, the group which initiated next Wednesday’s protest, in a media release Friday.

About a handful of protesters stood outside of the same Chick-fil-A location, 30 E. Chicago Ave., Aug. 1, as hundreds of thousands of the restaurant’s supporters flocked to locations across the country for what was dubbed “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.” Some at the gathering noted that the small turnout was due to little organization and that planning a second protest would draw a larger number of demonstrators. A kiss-in demonstration was also held Friday night, drawing a bigger crowd.

The protests come as the fallout against the Atlanta-based fast food restaurant continues. Almost two weeks ago, Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno (1st Ward) said he would block plans for a standalone Chick-fil-A in his ward. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel came out in support of Moreno shortly after the announcement, but has since backpedaled after critics called the ban a violation of the restaurant’s First Amendment rights.

Complaints alleging violations of the Illinois Human Rights Act have also been filed on both sides of the issue. The Chicago Republican Party called for Attorney General Lisa Madigan to investigate Moreno’s ban Aug. 1, alleging that he — and possibly Emanuel — also violated First Amendment rights. The next day, LGBT rights advocates at The Civil Rights Agenda filed their own complaint with Illinois Department of Human Rights, alleging that Chick-fil-A’s “intolerant corporate culture” violates Illinois law and a provision in the state’s Human Rights Act.

Heh, I do so love seeing politicians scuttle for cover once the spotlight gets put on them.

They’re an awful lot like cockroaches in that respect, I’ve noticed.

If they keep this up, the handful might eventually grow to a fistful, and that will distract them enough to make them forget all about it.

The Brotherhood of United Grubs and Insects (BUG) would like an apology for being compared to Rahm Emanuel.

And then one of the GLN members asked him, “…Who’s Anita Bryant?”

Exactly! As if he really knows himself. It’s like hearing a lecture on the 60’s and 70’s from a 22 year old. It makes me laugh.

I wasn’t aware that queer marriage was legal in Chicago. So “Chicago values” don’t include queer marriage.

Anita Bryant was correct in all of her statements regarding homosexual activists.

They defeated Anita Bryant? In their dreams.

I wonder how many protesters they'll get this time. 11 instead of 10?

Because the first one worked oh, so well!!!

Wow! Anita Bryant; that goes way back!

I think of her when I hear “for any suffer for the cause of Christ, this is the glory of God.....this is acceptable with God.” (1 Peter 4:12-16; James 1:12)

We can read the awful list of the unrighteousness that shall not inherit the kingdom of God.....in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10) Then it says in verse 11....”SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU”

Then let us read: “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persaude men....” (2 Corinthians 5:11a)

Blessed be Anita Bryant for her faithfulness to the message and cause of Christ!

The Chick-A-Fil Appreciation Day might have had a stellar turnout, but it will only happen once. In contrast, these LBGT groups are relentless and NEVER give up. Now that Chick-A-Fil is in their cross hairs, look for this to continue for year.

And this time make sure the media has left before calling it a day. It's embarrassing when the protesters leave the scene before the news vans do.

Gee, I thought Rahm Emmanuel was Mr. Tough Guy.

Why didn’t he go to the microphones and growl, “I’m sticking to my guns, no Chick Fil-A in Chicago. Come and get me, coppers!!”

So disappointing.......

What the queers don’t understand is they are putting Chick-fil-A in the fortune 500 class, without knowing it. There is a saying in politics, that I believe works here also.

“I don’t care what you say about me, as long as you keep my name in front of the public.”

A few gays and the media are doing a yeoman’s job of promoting Chick-fil-A. This is a businessman’s dream come true.

Wow, the last LGBT protest worked so good, let’s do it again. (The last protest caused a counter protest that ran the company out of chicken. If the LGBT does this often enough, there may not be enough chickens left to reproduce.)

Protests only work when the numbers are on your side.

Chick-fil-A has the numbers.

I guess they think "the third time is the charm", but having it at the hottest part of the day will sure enhance the turnout. /sarc

I wonder how long the bun burglars would continue to show up if every one of their whine-fests was outnumbered ten to one by CFA supporters. Even people whose brains have been rotted by years of liberalism and syphillis (but I repeat myself) might understand how counterproductive their actions are.

I'm OK with having CFA every Wed, bring it on, queers.

My support of CFA shows in my truck rear window, an 8 1/2 x 11 graphic in support. I usually get favorable comments, though I expect one day to find my window bashed in when I return to the parking lot.

Chick-fil-A protests return — with a new leader and a new argument

August 07, 2012

If you think the Chick-fil-A protests are finished here, think again.

Gay rights advocates are getting some heavy reinforcements in the form of Andy Thayer, arguably the top local leader of the May anti-NATO protests here. And Mr. Thayer has found an interesting new twist that might allow his side to go on the offensive.

Mr. Thayer is pointing to a 2007 article in Forbes that suggests the firm and its founder and CEO, Truett Cathy, have done more than oppose same-sex marriage.

To quote from the article, “Loyalty to the company isn’t the only thing that matters to Cathy, who wants married workers, believing they are more industrious and productive.” The article adds that Mr. Cathy “says he would probably fire an employee or terminate an operator who ‘has been sinful or done something harmful to their family members.’ “

There’s more: “The parent company asks people who apply for an operator license to disclose marital status, number of dependents and involvement in ‘community, civic, social, church and/or professional organizations.’ “
