LANSING (WWJ) Some voters have reportedly been turned away from the polls on Michigans primary election day for refusing to fill out the new citizenship box on their ballot application.
Jocelyn Bensen, Director of the Michigan Center for Election Law, said theyve been taking calls from confused voters across the state regarding this issue. Shes criticizing the Secretary of States office for failing to remind clerks that voters who decline to fill out the citizenship box must still be allowed to cast a ballot.
It has been the number one issue that we received calls on this morning, Bensen told WWJ Newsradio 950. And thats why we contacted the Secretary of States offices again today, urging the office to issue a clarifying statement, which they finally did at around noon.
A spokesperson for the Secretary of States office said clerks at some precincts were reminded about how to handle the citizenship question.

“Civil liberties groups have said the question is an attempt to discourage people from voting”
By definition, a failure to support the basic civil structure common to virtually every nation means you’re not a “civil liberty group”.
Best they take that "yes" box off there ~ just confuses them.
LOL how pathetic do you have to be to run to the media and tell them that I’m too stupid to know if I’m a citizen or not?
This is not so unusual. Most DemocRat voters don’t know their citizenship.
It wasn’t really a question. It was just a ellipse you colored in like a test next the something worded like “I am a Citizen of the United States”. or something similar. Not exactly confusing...(if you can read and understand English)

Thanks cripplecreek. I saw it, and proudly checked “yes”. No one had to point it out to me, or assist me with my voting paperwork because I couldn’t read English.
Thats kind of what I figured.
And given the simplicity of the question and how I should necessarily be answered I have to agree with your assessment of Jocelyn Bensens radio commentary in your # 4 post.

I personally think this ad is the one that won the race for Ruth Johnson.
