Commentary: Chick-fil-a day only fattened Cathy's wallet (Hurl, you will)
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram / The Raleigh News and Observer ^ | August 9, 2012 | Barry Saunders

Posted on 08/08/2012 11:14:56 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

You know all those people who made last Wednesday the most profitable single day in Chick-fil-A’s history?

I’m still trying to figure out how they managed to eat the thousands of chicken sandwiches they bought – while simultaneously patting themselves on the back with both hands in honor of their political stand.

By filling Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy’s coffers with even more moolah than usual, many somehow feel they were striking a blow for traditional marriage and free speech in America.

Buffalo chips. They didn’t do a thing in the world except help fatten a corporate chieftain’s bottom line and their own butts. Freud said – about something else – that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Likewise, sometimes a chicken sammitch is just a freakin’ chicken sammitch.

This was such an instance.

On the day declared willy-nilly “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” by former Arkansas Gov. Mike “Cluck” Huckabee, I watched hundreds of people, lemming like, filing in to area Chick-fil-As to show their support for either the company president’s stand on gay marriage – he opposes it – or for his right to announce his stand on gay marriage.

Somebody answer me this: When did marching up to the counter and ordering some barnyard pimp on a bun become a political statement on a par with crossing the Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma, Ala., in 1965? Sorry, homeslice, but hopping in the minivan and going through the Chick-fil-A drive-thru doesn’t make you a Freedom Rider.

As far as I could tell, there was no Birmingham, Ala., Sheriff Bull Connor, no water cannons or vicious dogs awaiting the customers, only over-solicitous cashiers asking, “You want some of our delicious waffle fries with that?”(ontinued)

Barry must be a barrel of laughs at the company picnic and Christmas party.

Saunders sounds like he may have gotten a hold of a bad, out of date tube of KY.

Boy he missed the point entirely didn’t he.

It wasn’t about gay marriage and it wasn’t about free speech.

It was about being able to voice your opinion about a subject and not have some Liberal politician get in front of a Liberal crowd of his cronies and tell them how he is going to stop you from doing business in his town.

Yes to sure it is Free Speech but it is also telling the powerful that we will not be cowed by their idle threats and we will not cower in the shadows while they try to remake our society.

Wednesday, August 1st, at opening at business.

Sorry, homeslice, but hopping in the minivan and going through the Chick-fil-A drive-thru doesn’t make you a Freedom Rider.

It must be really frustrating... All those Occupy protests, all those sing-ins, sharing of the bongs, all that pitty parties, and even voting for a black man for president, and look what happens? Those stinking conservatives didn't get the message. Their time is OVER. WE VOTED FOR A BLACK MAN FOR PRESIDENT! Why didn't it all change, like we envisioned in the haze of green smoke? What happened to the cum-by-yas, where men can marry boys, and every stinking conservative forced to swallow their pride and their stupid opinions in our socialist utopia.. WE WON OBAMACARE! But.. Why? Why does that victory feel so hollow when we watch masses upon masses of people patiently, and generously, form lines at a fast food joint. WE HAD STARBUCKS APPRECIATION DAY! That should have put the whole thing to rest - there's always a line there, so we've a leg up to begin with..

But then the stores were empty.. No one was there for us, showing the support for men to bugger boys with impunity. We had it all stacked, laws in place, or working their way there, that set the age of consent for homosexual relationships to be with boys still.

These days have never been so dark as this; even when California couldn't deliver the first popularly approved homosexual shacking up, and instead put that HATEFUL screed into their constitution, declaring that marriage is the union of a man and a woman in matrimony!

WHY MUST THEY BE SO FULL OF HATE! I wish they'd just DIE. Them and their fat butts and their bible waving homophobia! Can't they just leave it be, let the magic of a boy learning about his body with his favorite man become the norm? But we'll recover from this. We will stand together and work to rid these Republithugs and their preachers and send them to the dark abyss where they should be, muzzled from defiling a ceremony with their pious prayers to God and instead forced to listen as we call upon the magic of Gaia.

I know! I'll write some hateful screed and we'll call it an opinion, and we'll publish it in the paper! That editor likes a little boy toy time; he'll publish it!

“Sure, Cathy’s comments were gratuitously divisive”

No, they weren’t.

“and – if you ask James Miller of the LGBT Center of Raleigh
– may have been part of a cynical ploy to increase sandwich sales.”

Ah, shades of the Great McDLT Conspiracy of 1985!

“If so, that makes all those true believers who descended upon the store to buy a statement sandwich – in the words of the Everly Brothers’ song – Cathy’s Clowns.”

Um, no, it didn’t. Those folks “got it”, unlike Barry Saunders.

What a doofus.

If Mr. Cathy gave that interview months ago to drive up sales at Chick-fil-A he’s the greatest businessman since Phineas T. Barnum and the greatest prophet since Nostradamus.

The customers got tasty grub. The Cathys and their employees and franchisees got money. The haters got stuffed (and not the way they prefer). It’s called capitalism. It’s called free speech and assembly. It’s called a beautiful thing.

On one hand Conservatives are stupid bigoted idiots. Yet, on the other hand
we're intelligent enough to hornswaggle the media into promoting a ghostly bias
for profiting an organization that was supposed to be neanderthals.

Or maybe a cynical ploy to keep their restaurants liberal-free for the health and safety of their customers.

In another thread, there is a discussion around PaPa Johns sticking it in the eye of Obamacare. Smart businesses are reaalizing that supporting conservative causes helps foster customer loyalty. Before it is over the slimely left libs will only have Ben and Jerrys ice creme to support.

Which btw I would not buy at gun point.

Or maybe it does. There were threats of protests and confrontations against the hated “breeders”. Just because the faggies failed to follow through doesn’t mean Chick Fil-A customers didn’t see the risk yet went there to eat anyway.

Sort of like freedom riders and those segregated lunchcounters, eh, “homeslice”?

Epic butt hurt on the writers part.

Our efforts to push the idea that traditional marriage supporters are racist bigots was stymied. That’s not stopping us.

No, no, no! CFA Appreciation Day was secretly planned to lure Adam Smith from hiding, and it worked brilliantly! /snark
