In my opinion, wind energy is kind of like fool’s gold. Some people are getting a lot of money from development but they aren’t getting much energy. Texas is building massive transmission lines to take wind power from west to east. My hope is that when wind goes bust these lines will make it appealing to build nuclear or coal or gas plants in those areas.
The problem with that is that Texas' power grid is largely free-standing. Almost all the power generated within Texas stays in Texas and Texas gets almost no power from outside. So building the nukes that the rest of the nation needs inside Texas wouldn't help. At least, it wouldn't help the rest of the nation. But building a gas plant is so much easier than a nuke and there is so much gas underneath Texas (no jokes, please), it's probably cheaper to go with gas.
