Exclusive: Obama to include Republicans in hard-hitting convention
Politico ^ | 8/10/12 | Mike Allen

Advisers to President Barack Obama are scripting a Democratic National Convention featuring several Republicans in a prime-time appeal to independents — and planning a blistering portrayal of Mitt Romney as a heartless aristocrat who “would devastate the American middle class,” Democratic sources tell POLITICO.

According to convention planning documents, the three-night convention in Charlotte, N.C., early next month will seek to “[e]xpose Mitt Romney as someone who doesn’t understand middle class challenges” while also burnishing “the President’s image as someone whose life story is about fighting for middle class Americans and those working to get into the middle class.”

Each night of the convention will include a star turn for what planners call “real people” — for instance, an auto worker whose job was saved, a student who benefited from college loans and an entrepreneur fueled by federal research-and-development funds.

KEYWORDS:
Let's think of some names, shall we?? The usual crowd who have been complaining about the republican party moving too far to the right:

Richard Lugar Christie Todd Whitman Jeb Bush can speak at both conventions to be bipartisan Charlie Crist (ex and bitter republican) Lincoln Chafee (ex republican) Arlen Specter (ex and always bitter republican) John Huntsman John McCain can speak at both conventions to be bipartisan John Paul Stevens Sandra Day O'Connor Jim Jeffords (ex republican) Michael Bloomberg (was republican only to get elected) Dede Scozzafava (ex republican) Colin Powell (republican when convenient) Bob Dole can read Gerald Ford's book "After I'm gone"

Other suggestions??

Joe Scarborough, with Mika by his side.

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The only two names they throw out are Sen Chuck Hagel and Sen John Warner (who is about 90). Although I never heard Warner spout any support of Obama.

I’m guessing the “Republicans” will actually be life-long, Democrat, liberal political activists, like the seminar callers to Rush Limbaugh, and not any actual elected officials. While Romney is better than Obama, he is firmly in the Christine Todd Whitman-Charlie Crist camp.

Chafee, Specter, Huntsman, Jeffords, Bloomberg, et al have already made their non-Republican status famous before the selection of Romney; not that I’d be surprised to see one of them speak, but they are not who this is referring to.

There has never been a convention that was so devoid of a possitive message that they had to resort to personal character assassination and demonizing of the opposing party and candidate. This could very well backfire on them among so-called independents.

Devastating the American middle class is Ubamugabe's job.

Hate is a very powerful political tool, and the RATs are master hate-mongers.

If Romney somehow survives and wins it truly will be a miracle.

I think I’ll be going TV and Internet free the week of the Democrat convention, or else I’ll just get my blood pressure up screaming at the idiots on the screen. If I want to watch socialist propaganda I’ll pull up old recordings of Hitler, Stalin or Mao. At least they were a bit entertaining...

I have no suggestions just a comment.

I hope which ever RINOs that attend the Democratic National Convention have given up all hopes of continuing a career in elected politics. They can look forward to the same political future that Charlie Crist has had.

Hagel, maybe.. but I highly doubt John Warner would lower himself to that level.

I would think Bill Weld, Lincoln Chaffee, and Colin Powell would be on the list. Watch Masshole Weld make his case here (on 24 October 2008).
