Posted on 08/13/2012 6:05:23 PM PDT by maggiesnotebook
The ambush schedule of presidential and vice presidential debates has been announced with moderator names: PBS' Jim Leher on October 3rd in Denver; CNN's Candy Crowley in Hempstead, New York; CBS' Bob Schieffer October 22nd in Boca Raton, Florida and ABC's Martha Raddatz meets the Veeps on October 22th in Danville, Kentucky. Sounds like another ambush in the making. Ryan will decimate Biden. By the way, in Chicago, Obama's hometown, The Won speaks at a fundraiser for "younger supporters" and the room is half empty. Here's some scoop:

Jim Lehrer (more on the Bush-Kerry debates here):

Lehrer can offer a different flavor. During live coverage of the Democratic convention on August 25, he gauzily reacted to Jimmy Carters florid praise of Barack Obamas race speech in March: If it happens that he is elected, or even his just being nominated, will send positive ripple effects throughout the country on the race issue.Brent Bozell on Lehrer - October 2000 Bush Gore Debates:
In 2000, Lehrer moderated all three presidential debates. In the third one, a town hall debate, Lehrer approved mostly liberal questions from the uncommitted audience. Eight questions came from the left, only two could be counted as conservative, and five were requests for information without an ideological tone.
But as the debates progressed, how could viewers miss how the questions started tilting seriously to the left? Shaw asked the potential veeps liberal questions about racial profiling ("you are black for this question") and whether homosexuals have "the same rights as other Americans."Brent Baker on Schieffer July 13th 2012 (fairness and the wealthy's tax rate:
Lehrer could have balanced Shaw by asking about the federal takeover of police departments by the Clinton-Gore Justice Department, or about gay advocates trying to banish the Boy Scouts of America from public schools and halls.
Lehrer chose to do the opposite: He repeated the questions to Bush and Gore. In the second debate, Lehrer chose to balance questions about subsidized health care for the elderly -- by suggesting younger Americans needed subsidized health care, too.
Lehrer also pitched this beaut to Gore: "How do you see the connection between controlling gun sales in this country and the incidence of death by accidental or intentional use of guns?"
But the most dramatically skewed debate was the third, town hall-style debate. Lehrer announced that the pool of questioners was drawn from "voters who were identified as being uncommitted by the Gallup Organization." Each of the 130 potential questioners wrote out inquiries on a little card. Lehrer explained: "My job, under the rules of the evening, was to decide the order the questions will be asked and to call on the questioners accordingly." If the 15 questions that Lehrer chose are in any way indicative of mainstream political opinion, the "uncommitted" voters are stuck between voting for Gore ... or Ralph Nader. Six questions were neutral, as in the question about parents struggling with the filth Hollywood puts out. One -- one -- came from the conservative perspective. The other eight may as well have been Gore campaign press releases.

Schieffer next insisted: Doesnt fairness dictate that the wealthiest people should not be paying the lowest taxes because thats what happening many times?More here on Obama's False 'Fairness' Narrative.
Countering a point made by Romney, Schieffer maintained: You say that of course the wealthiest people pay the largest share, but dont they also pay at a lower rate when you figure in capital gains and all of that?
[BAKER] In fact, they do not. As USA Today noted in January, Romneys 14 percent income tax rate is a higher tax rate than the majority of taxpayers pay and the average effective tax rate for taxpayers with AGI of $1 million or more is 25%, according to the Tax Foundation analysis.
In Tax bracket vs. tax rate: Theyre two different things, reporter Sandra Block explained: The average effective federal tax rate for American taxpayers is 11%, according to an analysis of 2009 IRS data by the Tax Foundation, a non-profit research organization. For individuals with adjusted gross income of $50,000 or less, the average effective tax rate is less than 5%, according to the Tax Foundation.......
From the Sunday, August 12 60 Minutes:
BOB SCHIEFFER: You said yesterday, Im going to quote you, Mr. Ryan, America is a place where if you work hard, and play by the rules, you can get ahead. But the fact is, a lot of people dont think thats true anymore. They dont think the rules are fair. They think corporations and rich people are getting all these breaks and theyre getting stuck with paying the bills. They see some of the wealthiest paying the lowest tax rates. How are you going to fix that?
PAUL RYAN: What I see is a new amount of crony capitalism and corporate welfare which both parties have been engaged in, but the President has brought this to a whole new level, where President Obama is picking winners and losers based on connections, based on fads like Solyndra and basically giving handouts to businesses, giving preferences to tax code. We want to get Washington out of the business of picking winners and losers. We want entrepreneurs to have the barriers removed from in front of them, so that people can work hard and succeed. We want to turn the American idea back on. We want a system of upward mobility, and what we think we need to do is bring fairness back to the system of getting government bureaucracy and political clout out of the system. Those are the kinds of reforms weve been talking about.
Bob Schieffer (More at Newsbusters):
An embarrassing performance Sunday for CBSs Bob Schieffer in the debut of the new hour-long format for Face the Nation. At least he should be embarrassed by the contrast in how he played sycophant to Vice President Joe Biden, treating him as an oracle of wisdom, while not being nearly so coddling with Newt Gingrich who he corrected and challenged. Schieffer cued up Biden to pontificate:Candy Crowley with Rick Santorum:
Whats your take on that? What did you mean by that? What do you make of all of that? Whats your take on that?
To Gingrich, however, he argued with the former Speakers points.
Schieffer reminded Biden of how you really called him [Romney] out the other day for saying the President was out of touch. The CBS host prompted the Vice President to elaborate: What did you mean by that?
In a particularly uninspired question, Schieffer inquired: Are you enjoying this Republican primary? I know you said one day, God love them, I hope they have another twenty debates.
Bringing up President Obamas admission to Russian President Medevdev that hell have more flexibility after the election, Schieffer noted Romney said it was alarming. Schieffers question: What do you make of all of that?

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Sunday accused CNNs Candy Crowley of adopting Democratic talking points in a question about oil industry tax loopholes.Stephen Hayes on Candy Crowley:
Senator, she said on State of the Union, just in terms of the fairness issue, which you know is very important to Americans, and to politicians, one hopes, the oil companies are making record profits and yet taxpayers are paying for these loophopes for oil companies, which are basically tax breaks. And so, just on the face of it sir, it certainly does seem to a lot of Americans that people who are making record profits shouldnt be taking taxes that were paying on April 15 to get their tax breaks.
The Republican senator responded, Well, you know, with all due respect Candy, youre using all the Democratic talking points, and thats all quite interesting and it polls well, but the issue is the price of gas at the pump. If you raise taxes on the producers, you drive the prices even higher. Source: TMP
Harry Reid is disgrace. But you expect this from Harry Reid, The Weekly Standards Stephen Hayes zinged on FNCs Special Report Friday night before turning his ire on a certain Washington, DC-based anchor for CNN for advancing Reids baseless allegation that Mitt Romney didnt pay any income tax for ten years.Brent Bozell on Martha Raddatz:
The disappointing cohort in this, to me, is journalists, Hayes contended as he recalled how I saw another network anchor [CANDY CROWLEY] ask a Romney supporter [JOHN SUNUNU] about this accusation, saying Harry Reid is a really honorable man.
Hayes excoriated the unnamed journalist for telling the guest, as Hayes paraphrased, theres one way to settle this question and thats for Mitt Romney to put his taxes out. Hayes scolded: That is exactly what that kind of a baseless, absurd charge is going to bring about and hes having to answer questions about it all day. Its ridiculous.

By late afternoon, it emerged that the shooters name was Major Nidal Malik Hasan. But that night, CBS and NBC completely avoided mentioning that the shooter was a Muslim. ABCs Charles Gibson suggested he was a "Muslim convert," which wasnt right, but at least he wasnt playing hide-and-seek with the facts. ABC reporter Martha Raddatz spoke for the media in choosing this tidbit: "As for the suspect, Nidal Hasan, as one officer's wife told me, I wish his name was Smith."More on Raddatz interviews and comments here.
The coverage grew more factual the next morning, with all the networks noting Hasan was Muslim, and that he shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) as he opened fire. ABCs Diane Sawyer, though, repeated Raddatz: "We heard Martha Raddatz say last night that the wife of a soldier said I wish his name had been Smith, so no one would have a reflexive question about that."
Actually, such biased moderators could work to Romney’s advantage. He should talk to Gingrich about how to respond.
I thought Schieffer was dead.....
Republicans are idiots to agree with this. It’s the stupid party. That’s why I left.
Stupid, spineless, unprincipled whiners.
It's either these lefty commies or the League of Commie Voters with their highly slanted lefties. Instead of telling these bozos NO, they keep coming back to be hammered into mush by these a$$holes.
Why do the Repubs even show up?
Fatass Candy Crowley is one of the most partisan “reporters” around, yet she is so stupid that she makes obviously partisan comments and thinks they are objective — she doesn’t realize how partisan she sounds.
Leave it to Romney to haul out the Country Club Rulebook and show up with the Clubhouse Lawyer ...to what Obama has planned as a gun, knife and broken bottle party.
Tom DeLay ...and Lee Atwater are the only Republicans I can recall who understood that politics, as practiced by the Democrat Party, was a bar-room brawl-and they had the savvy to read the room right before-hand and knew who was going to do what and when.
Buy a clue Mitt....bammy doesnt read the Clubhouse Rules
Team Romney-Ryan must be prepared for Ambushes. 0bama-Biden (or Hillary) won't have to because the media will coordinate all debates WITH them. Romney-Ryan won't be given that luxury and will be at a deficit from the start.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, Romney needs to find the source of leaks within his inner circle. Someone in his camp is reporting to the media and probably 0bama. He needs to weed them out!
I have been recommending that if the networks want to keep these hacks then we should go to co moderators with our side having Rush, Levin, Sowell, and Newt.
They are not dumb enough to agree to a kangaroo court, why should we/
Bite-me will not be on the ticket . . . he'll drop off due to, oh, say health problems or whatever. Hitlery, who's been having lots of Spackle and putty jobs on her face these past few years will ride to the rescue of the ticket.
You watch . . . the woman who was involved in a White House murder, murder cover-up, perjury, suborning perjury, obstruction of justice, treason, and grand theft of government property will rescue the ticket.
What wonderful people the dummycrats have waiting in the wings. But, kiss Bite-me goodbye.
They’re probably already scripting the “Tie” score and desperately looking to find anything intelligent that JoeBee ever said (that wasn’t someone else’s).
I don’t think this is such a bad deal. First, Bob Schieffer of CBS hasn’t pitched difficult questions since the 1980s. He’s out of touch, if you’ve watched him over the past two years. He’ll have trouble tossing any complicated questions toward Romney, and he’ll let President Obama ramble along with marginal answers.
Candy? Well...the last time I checked...CNN was marginally moving along and probably screwing up just about every opportunity they had. In this case...let her do her damage...it’ll dissolve another twenty percent of the viewers away from the network and help the Chinese buy the CNN team by summer of 2013.
As for the VP moderator? Well....I’m guessing Joe Biden will have issues with just about every question tossed his way. I don’t expect this debate to do much.
“Bite-me will not be on the ticket . . “
I’d be really surprised, there aren’t many proven “knowns” dumber than Odumbo. It’s awful close to Nov. for that kind of upset. Biden’s bumbles always take the cam away from Hussein’s daily gaffes.
Hussein doesn’t want anyone smarter near him.
For the love of God! Who the heck is in charge of deciding the details of these debates? Can someone please tell me how this all gets decided so we know where to bring the rope?
Gingrich did very well handling the liberal scum that tried to sandbag him during the debates. Romney could learn a thing or two. But why do Republicans always agree to debates moderated by liberal filth?
One must concede this is a slight improvement; No MSLSD debate with Keef and Chrissy, as in the last cycle.
Or Gwen Eye-Full.
I can’t face the prospect of watching this same old “debate format” for the 50 millionth time. I know EXACTLY what questions they will ask, I know EXACTLY their tone of voice, I know EXACTLY how the candidates will react and how they will answer.
It’s not even that the moderators are the same old boring liberals. It’s that It’s been done and done and done to death.
It is all so predictable.
He could but he won’t. Mitt plays it safe. Mitt will do the conventional.
Jim Lehrer will have hosted 11 presidential debates in 6 successive election cycles, going back 20 years. That hardly seems reasonable. NBC is almost never included with Brokaw in 2008 being a rare exception, FOX doesn't exist as far as these debates go.
Bob Schieffer is another repeat from 2008 (and 2004) but at least we don't have the situation of 2008 where one of the moderators has a book coming out on a candidate as we saw with Gwen Ifill.
Something else not pointed out, New York audiences get another crack at asking questions as they did in 2008. They had the third debate with Schieffer, this time they have the 2nd debate with Crowley.
There's a truly awful slate of moderators and a poor regional mix of debate hosts. Kentucky has it's second debate in three cycles. Missouri had two debates, 2004 and 2008. Florida is back from 2004. Do we really have so few states that THREE account for hosting half the past dozen presidential debates? It's a sham.
I already know all the debate outcomes. The LMSM network chorus will claim barry and plugs won them, even if they don’t show up.
SunkenCiv, thank you for reading!
Wouldn’t Hitlery’s face make a train take a dirt road. You could hang your car keys on her upper lip wart.
It certainly would. I think the evil corroding her insides has caused her to age faster than most normal people. She doesn't have the youth to mask it any longer. One look, and you see exactly what she is.
Not even Dumbocrats are going to vote for that. She knows that her last shot was in 2008, even if paranoid Freepers don't.
