Why Voting For Mitt Romney Should Be a No-Brainer For Conservatives
Political Realities ^ | 08/15/12 | LD Jackson

Posted on 08/15/2012 4:01:21 AM PDT by LD Jackson

This is something I have mulled over a long time. I touched on it in a comment on Country Thinker's post yesterday, but I would like to elaborate just a bit.

I know Mitt Romney has many detractors. Many conservatives and libertarians question his conservative credentials, myself included. I questioned them in 2007 and I questioned them during the GOP primary. I still have reservations about how conservative he would be as President of the United States. I contend there are other things to consider, besides his fiscal conservatism.

There are many people who are going to refuse to vote for Mitt Romney, based on his record in Massachusetts. That is their privilege and I would not dare to denigrate their choice. There are also those who will refuse to vote for him on the basis of the theory that he would be worse for our country than Barack Obama. One of the co-authors on Political Realities holds that opinion, but I have seen many other commentators put the same sentiment in writing. This post is not an attack on their position, and certainly not an attack on Ted, but I want to explain why I disagree so strongly with that belief.

Mitt Romney - Barack ObamaSince Barack Obama took office, it has been one disaster after another. He made a promise to bring the nation together while he was campaigning, but he has done just the opposite. Remember how he interjected himself into the issue of racism over the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr.? He couldn't help himself and said the police acted stupidly. Instead of allowing local authorities to handle the situation, he just had to get involved. Did this help our country or did it just stoke Obama's ego? Would Mitt Romney have responded in such a brash manner?

Remember the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? One of the things Barack Obama did in response to the BP oil spill was to declare a moratorium on drilling in the Gulf. Safety concerns were slighted. When the moratorium was challenged in court, it was thrown out. Obama was ordered to lift the ban, yet he ignored the court order. The challenge was brought forth because the ban was hurting a lot of people. Jobs and incomes were lost. The court ruled Obama had insufficient cause to issue the moratorium and struck it down. The President didn't agree with the order, so he refused to comply. It was done in accordance with our judicial system, but the President simply wouldn't go along. Ask yourself how Mitt Romney would have reacted.

Moving on to health care, Barack Obama has issued new requirements that call for birth control to be available to all women as part of their health insurance. Disregarding that birth control is available for very little cost, the President did his part for the women of America. Using authority that was buried deep inside Obamacare, he is now forcing religious organizations that believe birth control is a sin to provide it as part of the health insurance they provide for their employees. In doing so, religious freedom was severely damaged. Is it not safe to say Mitt Romney would have not issued such a policy directive?

Let's look at the President's liberal use of executive orders to change existing law, or to create new law. Immigration anyone? Barack Obama has completely changed the way illegal immigration is handled on the federal level. Because of the policy changes he has affected by executive order, many illegal immigrants no longer have to worry about being deported.

The President did the same thing with welfare reform. Our current law on welfare reform was crafted and passed during the Clinton years and it has worked since then to lower the number of people on welfare. It was widely declared to be a success, due in large part because of the work requirement built into the law. That requirement was strict because Congress made it thus. They wrote the law in such a way that it prevented waivers from granted for the work requirement. Barack Obama must have disagreed with that part of the law, because he magically found a way he could change the law. He issued a new policy directive that allows states to apply for waivers to the very requirement that made the law such a success.

Both of these examples show one of the main reasons why I believe Barack Obama is so dangerous for America. In using the principles of conduct he has applied to both issues, he has shown a complete and total disregard for the American system of government. Instead of working with Congress to affect any changes he may want, he simply took it upon himself to make those changes. In other words, he bypassed Congress and did what he wanted to do, and never mind the Constitution.

Ask yourself a simple question. Would Mitt Romney have done the same thing, or would he have worked within our system of government to change the laws he wanted to change?

As you can see, there are many things to consider, other than Mitt Romney and his lack of fiscal conservatism. I believe there is a large gap between how Romney would conduct himself as President, when compared to how Barack Obama has used his office. That difference is more than enough to convince me to vote for Mitt Romney.

I am convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that a second term for Barack Obama would be a complete and total disaster for America. Much worse than his first four years. He has shown himself to be willing to bypass the Constitution and do things his own way. That being the case, how will he conduct himself in his second term, knowing he has no worries about reelection?

For all the reasons I have stated, and then some, the theory that somehow Mitt Romney would be worse than Barack Obama simply does not work for me.

It is not his lack of fiscal conservatism, but his lack of social conservatism that most concerns me. And his views will automatically be deemed right-wing by the media, even though they aren’t. Because of these things, the standards will be viewed as having shifted to the left. Anyone not to the left of Romney will be castigated as unacceptable in society. The Left has taken control of the vocabulary and of the opinions of the mindless masses. And Romney is one of their Weapons Of Mass Destruction.

Romney will spell the beginning of a liberal republican party, a rejection of social conservatism, and the entrenchment of what has been the covert direction of the Rino party since Reagan.

It is terrible for America to have 2 liberal parties.

That kind of America will quickly begin persecuting conservative Christianity, and in short order, expression of many religious beliefs, such as Cathy of Chick-fil-A saying he believes in natural marriage, will be punished.

Mitt’s Response: “that is not part of my campaign”.

I respectfully disagree with the author.

4 more years of Obama will result in millions stuck in poverty, joblessness, hopelessness, young people in a lost generation, etc.

The ABR’s can claim some holier than thou status all they want, when they choose to stick with obama, that is what they are giving their stamp of approval to.

I did not vote for MR in the primary - but Obama has to go. My business, my clients’ businesses, their clients businesses, are literally on the brink and if we get 4 more years of this communist A-Hole its game over.

The naive and childish hope that some savior for the Conservative cause will arive in 2016 is a fairy tale. It will be the same crappola w the 100/100 types who would not have nominated reagen were he alive today.

Let’s get the communist muslim thug out of the WH and push MR to the right as much as possible.

Romney will be the candidate and that’s not going to change no matter how much whining and gnashing of teeth. Thus there are three options for conservatives in November. Vote Romney, Vote Obama or don’t vote. Two of those options are a vote for Obama.

This is why the people claiming piety and holy status by giving Obama a second term need to really consider the consequences of their actions above and beyond their hatred for Romney.

These people are directly harming a lot a people if their making a difference results in that ghetto criminal getting a second term.

They will own the misery of millions on their backs.

Romney is 10 times more dangerous than Obama.

Liberal Obama would be a lame duck with the GOP firmly positioned against him.

Liberal Romney will further corrupt the GOP by running it to the left.

Ask yourself which is worse - the enemy outside the gate or the enemy inside the gate?

Then take a good look at your loved ones and think if you want hysterics and loss of nerve to make you their enemy inside the gate, by voting for Liberal Romney

I have clients who used to have 150 employees that are now near homeless.

I have others that are in jail now due to the economy and they can’t meet child support payments since they lost their jobs.

Everywhere I go near me - there are more vacancies, foreclosures, despair, jobless, homeless popping up etc.

There is no possibility of any improvement unless we first get obama out of office. Does Romney make me wince? YES!!!! Yes!!!!

But can i endure 4 more years of economic depression with my life, and my familys’ life, as well as my friends’ lives, clients’ lives, etc all on hold or collapsing?

Think about that! Is the hatred for one person we did not vote for in the primary that strong that we will give the WH and country another term to? Seriously?

Finally - for all those bitching about Romney - maybe Y’all should have united behind Santorum, Newt, or Bachmann and not split your votes.

I know I might get banned - but the idea of 4 more years of Obama and this economic destruction is simply unthinkable - regardless of how much mittens revolts me.

I merely point out that there is no viable alternative to the removal of BHO. I reject the "let American crash and burn for the next 10, 20 years" philosophy.

We have the Tea Party, we have Ryan, unfortunately we have Romney but he can be "influenced", especially if we can get control of the Congress.

We can turn this Obama catastrophy around IF we defeat BHO and gain the Congress.

Any post containing “conservatives” and “Romney” gets a certain group of posters all riled up.

No, wait. Liberals do what we just can’t seem to do, since we’re so high and mighty. They circle the wagons, we’re too busy in a circular firing squad. Hold out for that perfect (non-existent) conservative, no matter what!

I have not posted on this argument yet but as I do so I have this bizarre ‘feeling’ of ‘coming out of the closet’ as a conservative in a conservative forum. I’m sick of the premise that if I do not vote for Romney I am voting for Obama, the destruction of the country, pain and suffering for our citizens, etc. A conservative would be compromising one’s beliefs by voting for a liberal from any party. The effects of such a compromise are always negative. To give in ‘just a little’ leads to more giving in. A Liar will continue to tell more lies to perpetuate the first lie. A little evil brings more evil such as exemplified in Judges 17. I will not compromise and vote for either POS. Flame away...

LMFAO. What planet are these people living on?

Either Romney or Obama is going to be the next potus - not Goode, not ron paul, no sarah palin, not Hoffeling, etc.

Obama second term = dismantling the suburbs, cementing ThugCare, Holder ensconsed for 4 more years w his hatefest in the DOJ, economic depression, more debt downgrades, more racial and class warfare, more insults to hard working taxpayers, more radical appointments, 3 more SC picks, hundreds of appointments to the judiciary, etc.

Romney has been a very divisive character, but he will be gone soon and we need to begin planning for a post-Romney forum based upon a renewed respect for one another. This forum will be stronger than ever.
