Todd Akin's out with a doozy of a response to his interview. Linked below.

St. Louis - Congressman Todd Akin just released the following statement regarding his interview on the "Jaco Report" broadcast this morning in St. Louis:

"As a member of Congress, I believe that working to protect the most vulnerable in our society is one of my most important responsibilities, and that includes protecting both the unborn and victims of sexual assault. In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it's clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year. Those who perpetrate these crimes are the lowest of the low in our society and their victims will have no stronger advocate in the Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve.

"I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action. I also recognize that there are those who, like my opponent, support abortion and I understand I may not have their support in this election.

"But I also believe that this election is about a wide-range of very important issues, starting with the economy and the type of country we will be leaving our children and grandchildren. We've had 42 straight months of unacceptably high unemployment, trillion dollar deficits, and Democratic leaders in Washington who are focused on growing government, instead of jobs. That is my primary focus in this campaign and while there are those who want to distract from that, knowing they cannot defend the Democrats' failed economic record of the last four years, that will continue to be my focus in the months ahead."

Is ‘rape rape’ different than ‘legitimate rape’?

He might get out of it by strongly advocating that rape be met with the death penalty. That stand would flummox the Progressives...

He better QUICKLY beef up his response, by repeating what he said, saying it was wrong, and apologizing to any victims that he may have hurt.

But it’s probably too late anyway...

It is different than statutory rape.

Step one in diffusing the situation before it gets a life of its own? Getting your actual views on record on the same day.

Step two: Move back on message.

The guy is not stupid, thankfully. What could have gone viral will rise and die off in about a week.

Akin is a professional politician. Period. He doesn't believe in anything, other than being a big shot. That's why any nonsense could pass his lips at any time.

That's why Claire McCaskill's campaign was running ads saying what a scary right-wing extremist he was. They wanted to run against him.

Brunner was the real thing, but that didn't happen.

Good for him. He also, IIRC, said he was referencing the word given to him by doctors.

I tell ya, Perdogg, I’m sick of us conservatives allowing the damn media to set the agenda. They’ll never make it in our favor and they’ll always try to turn against us. Always. Always. Always.

Backing the conservative, even if they “misspeak”, is the right thing to do...Obamugabe and his cult circle the wagons all the time.

We must do the same.

“Not necessarily.”

We’ll see - I certainly hope you’re right, and I’d still vote for him, no doubt, if I lived there. It just bites to have to deal with stuff like this.

“But it’s probably too late anyway...”

Why would it be? Most people in that state likely haven’t even heard of this. When local media gets to it, they will report his statement above. The majority will say “ok, fine. Whatever. Next time think before you speak”.

Swear some people act like the voting public is just that simple-minded.

This is why runoff elections are a good idea.

The DNC and Claire McC are taping ads right now with rape victims. Bank on it.

This is what we get when we nominate Huckabee preacher types.

McCaskill and the MO rats have a “you didn't build that” comment to latch on to. They will not let go of their only hope. Good luck Akin, a world of idiocy is headed your way.

IMO, there are 3 crimes which duly-merit the death penalty: murder (not killing), rape and child molestation. Animal torture & abuse merits a blowtorch/pliers, for 2hrs.

While I hope you're right, the voting public did elect Barak Obama.

“Swear some people act like the voting public is just that simple-minded.”

It only takes a few percent of the electorate to change - and those would be the simple-minded ones that think this is a vote between individuals, rather than a vote on the direction of the country. Stuff like this can lose elections.
