(Rep) Todd Akin's out with a doozy of a response to his interview

Todd Akin's out with a doozy of a response to his interview. Linked below.

St. Louis - Congressman Todd Akin just released the following statement regarding his interview on the "Jaco Report" broadcast this morning in St. Louis:

"As a member of Congress, I believe that working to protect the most vulnerable in our society is one of my most important responsibilities, and that includes protecting both the unborn and victims of sexual assault. In reviewing my off-the-cuff remarks, it's clear that I misspoke in this interview and it does not reflect the deep empathy I hold for the thousands of women who are raped and abused every year. Those who perpetrate these crimes are the lowest of the low in our society and their victims will have no stronger advocate in the Senate to help ensure they have the justice they deserve.

"I recognize that abortion, and particularly in the case of rape, is a very emotionally charged issue. But I believe deeply in the protection of all life and I do not believe that harming another innocent victim is the right course of action. I also recognize that there are those who, like my opponent, support abortion and I understand I may not have their support in this election.

"But I also believe that this election is about a wide-range of very important issues, starting with the economy and the type of country we will be leaving our children and grandchildren. We've had 42 straight months of unacceptably high unemployment, trillion dollar deficits, and Democratic leaders in Washington who are focused on growing government, instead of jobs. That is my primary focus in this campaign and while there are those who want to distract from that, knowing they cannot defend the Democrats' failed economic record of the last four years, that will continue to be my focus in the months ahead."

IMO, there are 3 crimes which duly-merit the death penalty: murder (not killing), rape and child molestation.

The problem, in the case of rape and child molestation, is you run the risk of perpetrators just killing their victims. If the penalty is death anyway, why not just kill and dispose of the body so they can't talk.

Capital punishment for murder I agree with. For the other two, life without parole seems more sensible to me.

I don’t no anything about this guy.

However,If this guy could magically take Romney’s place for

the President nomination. I would vote for him in a second.

Then again I would consider a conservative coma patient as

President over Obamie the Commie.

Real reason Akin is being attacked: 97.24 lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union!

Come on, people...wake up and smell what the liberals are cooking....this is all going to be done to every Republican on the ballot...words twisted to sound worse than the actual quote, out of context, etc...all to keep the liberals in power and to keep the Senate from turning to a point where we can overturn Obamacare.

Quit falling for the media spin, dammit!!

Rape Pregnancies Are Rare
John C. Willke, M.D.

Life Issues Connector, April 1999, Reprinted with permission

First, let’s define the term “rape.” When pro-lifers speak of rape pregnancies, we should commonly use the phrase “forcible rape” or “assault rape,” for that specifies what we’re talking about. Rape can also be statutory. Depending upon your state law, statutory rape can be consensual, but we’re not addressing that here.

A relatively new category is “date rape.” For some reason this is supposed to be different, but, forcible rape is rape, regardless of whether it occurs on a date or behind the bushes. If a college woman is raped on a date, she should undergo a medical examination and treatment, just as she would in the aftermath of an assault rape. It is not a separate category.

Assault rape pregnancies are extremely rare. Most pro-lifers have heard this comment, but too often cannot back it up with facts. A candidate for office in the State of Arkansas made this comment before the last elections. He was roundly criticized and ridiculed by the opposing candidate and the media. Unfortunately, there was no evidence that he offered substantive proof to back up his claim that rape pregnancies were rare.

Missouri has been a tough nut to crack for quite a few years. Akin’s recent 11 point lead over McCaskill tells me that the nut has cracked and I’d be surprised if anything can uncrack that nut. That being said, hopefully Akin can recover from this, maintain his advantage, and avoid further missteps. We have given them too many openings as it is.

Good luck Akin, a world of idiocy is headed your way.

Unfortunately, he made a completely ridiculous statement and kind of deserves the flak he is going to get.

Any chance we can dump this guy and put a better candidate up against McCaskill? I doubt there is any way to save Akin after utterly such stupid comments.

Hey Todd;
My guess is that horse has already left the barn.
You probably should have hung on to your day job.
Looks like Sarah was right.
Again.

Ouch! Got one in on her in the process.

...and I understand I may not have their support in this election.

May not? What an optimist.

Well played, IMO.

Was he distinguishing between a “rape” that is a “rape”, and consensual sex that someone afterwards calls a “rape”.

Dana Loesch has had the tweet of the day:

"Akin failed a soundbite. McCaskill helped tank the economy. If you think his bad is worse, join the left."

You’ve got to be kidding?

You are so crossed over he people of MO not voting the way Palin said they should that you are willing to actively participate in some sort of hoped for attacking of this guy that likely wont even come now that he has repudiated the controversial remarks on the same day?

And to image how angry some of you acted when the Democrats went ape of that whole crosshairs thing. Using your thinking, Palin should have never been head from again.

At least one FReeper is vigoursly defending this guy. He’ll no doubt issue an apology in the next few days, but he just handed his opponent an e-ticket. I’d love to be a fly on the wall in that campaign headquarters tonight.

Valid point. I’d hope that the DP would be a deterrent, but in many cases, that isn’t the case. Deviants, perverts, rapists etc can’t control themselves, and that’s why the gene pool needs a heaping dose of chlorine, in those cases, LIPwoP at the taxpayers’ expense, is unfair to society and the economy. The herd should be culled at every opportunity to protect the innocent and helpless of society.

There is no doubt that McCaskill is not popular in this state - or rather Obama is so unpopular that anyone linked with him has a huge mountain to climb. It is also true that the week before the primary McCaskill was trailing all her opponents. It is a tough nut for anyone to crack. But that doesn't mean she can't crack it, and all the aid that Aikin is giving her is only helping her do it.

Interesting...thanks for posting. The article claims that only about 200 pregnacies occur each year due to rape.

I’m a bit confused by some of their numbers toward the end, though. They claim there are 6 million pregnancies per year of which about 3 million eventuate in live births, 1.5 are aborted and .5 Mil are miscarried. ???? must be a typo.

Let me see if I understand. Palin endorsed Sarah Steelman in the primary. Todd Akin won said primary. Todd Akin made the dim Joe Biden kind of statement about rape and pregnancy. But it is Sarah Palin and her supporters that caused it and should just shut up because Todd Akin is a Republican and Republicans are always on the right side of God.
Riiiight.

he attempts to spin his way out of it by saying that he misspoke! He didn’t misspoke, he knew exactly what he was saying. He could have been upfront and admitted that what he said he was wrong and then went on to apologize and moved on. He set himself up for more trouble
