Do The Right Thing Todd Akin, PLEASE Step Down
http://annem040359.wordpress.com/ ^ | August 20, 2012 | annem040359

On Sunday, United States of America House of Representatives, Todd Akin, (R/MO), while during an interview via KTVI in St. Louis, MO, said some words that NOT ONLY GOT ME SHOCKED AND ANGRY, but also shocked and upset a number of GOP/Republican candidates running for public office, both women and men on the issue of “rape“.

The offensive part of the interview came in these words:

“It seems to me first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Mr. Akin said. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Rep. Akin, what you have said, as a woman, and though I am pro-life, anti-abortion, as a woman, I am very, very offended by your view that there is such a thing such as “a legitimate rape”. Rape is rape, be it rape by a stranger or by a date. It is never ever legitimate. Even though you have said you are sorry, as a Christian I do forgive, but at the same time, for the good of not only the GOP/Republican party nationwide, but I do add-on, for the good of the GOP/Republican party in MO, BUT MOST IMPORTANT, FOR THE GOOD OF BOTH THE PEOPLE OF BOTH MISSOURI AND THE UNITED STATES, PLEASE REP. AKIN, STEP DOWN.

Stepping down would also send a message that a major crime such as rape is not a trivial matter, no ifs, ands or buts.

Assuming the description of Akin’s interview with Hannity is accurate, the GOP needs to practice a little Chicago politics and explain to Akin that he will not only be a man without a party, but that he will be ruined for anything else, as well.

GIve it a few days and a Rep. Akin press conference and all of this will be forgotten.

Google "George Allen" and "macaca".

This moron committed the rhetorical equivalent of tapping his foot on the bathroom floor on a airport terminal. If you remember that one act cost the republicans heavily....

I honestly don’t believe that when he used the term “legitimate rape” (a stupid, horrible, inaccurate term) that he was distinguishing between date rape / violent rape / or any other type of unwanted, forced sexual activity. I took it to mean the difference between an unwanted, forced sexual activity and statutory rape.

Before I go on - please understand - I am not condoning any form of rape - just trying to explain what I thought his logic was. I took him to be saying when the sexual act is unwanted by the woman, her body will try to reject the pregnancy itself as opposed to when it is a wanted act. In the case of statutory rape even though it may be morally wrong, the female is a willing participant and therefor it is a different type of rape than what he called “legitimate rape”.

Again - I am not defending his use of words, his conclusions of how women’s bodies work - just what I think he meant by that term.

Fascinating. There are more conservatives than rats joining the rape of Akin.

Congratulations.

Yup. "Conservatives" will crawl over broken glass and sell their very souls to support a baby-killing RINO, but will pile on to destroy a Conservative at the drop of a hat.

Freeperdom wonders why Boehner never stands to fight the great battles that must be won to save our republic.

Answer: Because the pitiful panty waists, like those on display at this thread run for cover in the little battles.

You're delusional. Akin will not be able to recover from this gaffe. It's just so colossally bad that even fellow strongly pro-life conservatives will run against him all over the country in order to prove they are sensitive to women's issues. Akin will lose us this seat if he doesn't get out. Losing this seat means McCaskill retains it - and that seriously cuts into our chances of taking back the Senate. Akin may be a good guy, but he's destroyed his candidacy and for the good of the country he needs to do the right thing and get out of the race.

If rape can be legitimate or illegitimate, is the latter in which a false complaint of rape is made?

Well sure, the rats hope Akin stays in. He is the candidate they've wanted all along. They spent money in the GOP primaries to make sure this was their opponent. McCaskill was just on TV defending him. The only flaw in their plan is that he imploded too soon and there is some chance the GOP can convince him to quit.

Republicans/conservatives of every stripe are trying to persuade Akin to withdraw because they know he will lose now. The guy is toast and everyone but Akin knows it. So yeah, ofcourse the rats are laying low or defending him, and ofcourse the conservatives are blasting him and trying to drive him out of the race.

You can fight for this idiot if you wish to.

He does have a Conservative voting record.

Maybe you can save him, its just that tossing at windmills isn’t my forte’.
Giving out with one of the dumbest statements I ever heard, that a woman could wish away a rape conceived baby.

If we simply dug in and defended everything no matter how ludicrous we'd be no better than the left we are supposed to be opposing.

Akin blew up his campaign. It's done. Once he uttered those words he was finished. If he stays in, he will lose to McCaskill and cost us any chance of taking that Senate seat. That seat is far more important than one man.

BFD! All his statement proves is that the congress critter didn't pay attention in biology class.

Is his statement any more stupid than that of Hank Johnson, moronic congress critter from Georgia that said he was worried that the island of Guam might tip over if we move our troops to the end of the island.

I'm mighty tired of the permanently aggrieved always looking for an excuse to bitch and moan.

Are you a Missourian? If not, imagine you are.

Would you vote for McCaskill because of Akin’s faux pas?

Of course not. Don't assume your fellow Missourians are idiots.
