Empire State Building Shooting Is Proof that Gun Control Doesn't Work
The Red Side of Life Conservative Musings from New York ^ | 8/24/12 | RedInNewYork

Posted on 08/24/2012 8:11:29 AM PDT by jmstein7

The shootings around the Empire State Building today are further proof that gun control simply doesn't work - except to keep guns out of the hands of those who might want to legally defend themselves.

New York City is a de facto "Gun Free Zone." Thus, by liberal logic, there should be zero gun crime. How, then, is it possible that firearms account for about 60% of all murders in New York? By liberal logic, murderers in New York aren't able to own guns. See how absurd the logic of the gun grabbers is?

The fact is, no matter how strict gun laws are, a person who wants to commit a crime with a gun will find a way to get a gun - just like a person who wants drugs that are 100% illegal will find a way to get said drugs. Gun laws don't stop gun crimes. All gun laws do is stop people from defending themselves. But ONE person with a CCW could have shot the shooter in NYC the second he opened fire.

What if the shooter had been in a subway car? What would have stopped him from killing every single defenseless person therein? NYC can't possibly put a cop in every subway car. How about a bus? An office building? This only serves to emphasis the need for the government to back off and give millions of potential and defenseless victims the means of self-defense in such situations.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not advocating for a wild-west scenario. I don't want to put guns in the hands of just any idiot - there has to be at least a minimum knowledge and respect of firearms through education. But I do think that anyone who has taken, say, an NRA-approved course on how to use and respect firearms should be issued a CC permit. That is, after they have been taught how to shoot, when to shoot, when NOT to shoot, etc.

In fact, I would mandate such education in public schools - certainly personal self defense is more important than handing out condoms.
Bottom line - where do you think a person is more likely to commit a crime - in a "gun free zone," or in a location where everyone is potentially armed and educated? Exactly.

How many nano-seconds after this happened did ABC and NBC blame the Tea party?

Is it just me or are there more shootings lately, or publicity about shootings.
Fuel for gun-grabbers?

I agree, basic gun safety should be taught in schools, it's right up there with knowing how to swim.
Do they teach that nowadays?

Leftist logic on gun control mirrors their defense of communist failures, i.e. “It would work, but it has to be worldwide.”

There are always free people somewhere that are to be held accountable for the failure of Leftist diktats.

It’s illegal to have a gun in NYC. So there was no shooting.

Bloomberg needs to legalize guns and outlaw people.

It is starting to sound like the shooter fired two shots into his ex-boss and walked away. Cops then opened fire and nailed the shooter and multiple bystanders.

Libs will spin it. Watch.

Other state gun laws.

How about we just put up a fence around NYC, DC and Chicago?

Nobody in, Nobody out.

Whorealdo is on WABC radio right now...politicizing it.

His main talking poitn is “Thank goodness everyone in NY isn’t armed, or alot more people would have been shot by incompetent do gooders.”

....and there is now a Drudge headline stating that the NYPD did just that - shot civilians by accident.

“I would mandate such [NRA-style] education in public schools.”

It's because I believe you are right overall that I implore you not to make the argument that there should be NRA-style education in public schools. This is a nonstarter and you will lose 95% of the people you are trying to convert. Let's stick with keeping it legal for law-abiding people to own guns.

This was right near Penn Station so there is a good chance the shooter took the train from NJ, Pennsylvania or Long Island with a LEGALLY owned gun. If so, the argument will be for gun control EVERYWHERE, not just in NYC.

I can almost hear the sounds of gun-grabbers reaching in the distance…

Bloomie just stated that the shooter LIVED in Manhattan
i.e. New York City and could not have legally owned a gun.

Just you. Well, most everyone really. We tend to forget such news.

These happen on a statistically predictable basis, and of late seem not unusual given normal odds.
The grabbers just assume another one is going to happen, and prepare accordingly - ready to trot out a prepackaged sudden outrage.

Quote from CNN female street reporter,”gun was 45 caliber semi-automatic which carries eight magazines”.
I want one of those!
