True story - -

I was standing on the sidewalk on the west side of the WH one day this April when security suddenly shut down everything.

After about a 10 minute wait, Joe Biden rolls out the driveway in an armored Suburban with two other escort cars.

A guy in a 1000 dollar suit leans over to me and says;
“If Joe didn’t have a chauffeur, I doubt he could find his way back to his house for lunch”

There used to be a similar cartoon with Reagan.

He would say something like: “Let me digress for a second...” - and all these fearful aids would go into a panic. Of course when President Reagan digressed from his handlers, he connected with the American people. Just look look “Reagan Soviet Jokes”, some are hysterical.

Reince Priebus, RNC Chair, was on Hannity’s Fox show yesterday evening. He said the RNC welcome Biden to Tampa with open arms as he is the best gift they could have (or something to that effect).

““The bombing begins in 5 minutes” sent the journalists and liberals into panic”

Oh yea. I remember the liberal reaction: “See, we told you!!!”

Except that in 8 years, all Reagan did was hit Libya once (with a VERY successful outcome, I might add), and liberate Granada (again, a TOTAL victory). Both tiny operations compared to both Bushes, Clinton, and Obama.

It wound up that Reagan was the “Man of Peace” that the Left always dreamed of...but they could NEVER accept that.

When I was in the sub service mid 80s, Reagan scrambled the ENTIRE eastern seaboard submarine fleet(s) right after the Soviet spy satellite flew by.

Next fly-by, all the submarines were gone.

Just to screw with them.

Made for a LONG duty day, but man that was GREAT!!!! lol

Guy I used to work with would tell me stories like that when he served in the Middle East in the ‘80’s. He said the same thing...”Just to f*** with the Russians...it was great!”.

Just to screw with them.

It wasn't just to screw with them ... it was to baseline their surveillance capabilities and test and document their response times.

There was a mid-1980s exercise where the USN "disappeared" three carrier groups and the USS New Jersey Surface Action Group in the Pacific. The Sovs only "found" them when the A-6s popped up far enough (and just outside the 12-mile limit) for the Sov radars ... in Vladivostok ... to paint them. What the Sovs didn't know at the time was that we'd managed to tap their undersea hardlines and were able to capture all of their frantic traffic.

There was another situation where they transited their 3rd Kiev-class carrier (the Novorossiysk) to their Pacific Fleet. They were trying to impress their then-Indian clients and had a large Indian Navy delegation on deck when they got hit with a simulated alpha-strike from a US carrier that was MUCH further away than they thought possible.

Now the most amusing "Screw with the Reds" scenario that I've heard about was how the weapons-integration unit at Edwards decided to hang AIM-9 Sidewinders off of a couple A-10s in anticipation of a satellite flyover. A good number of months later there was an article in a Sov military periodical promoting the benefits of putting AAMs onto close air support aircraft (like their SU-25s). Complete with a very grainy overhead picture of those two A-10s ... playing up the fact that the USAF was looking into it to.

Now where that story gets REALLY amusing is that apparently the Sov magazine story was translated into English by the intel weenies and started getting circulated within the USAF CAS community. Where its strong arguments actually convinced TPTB to really integrate Sidewinder capability in to the A-10 ...
