A new Chick-Fil-A restaurant on the UTPA campus in Edinburg was greeted by protestors on the first day of classes.
Students and staff all clamored to buy meals from the new restaurant early Monday afternoon.
But a small group of protestors has stationed themselves outside restaurant.
The UTPA Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Alliance is circulating a petition to have the school close the Chick-Fil-A.
Working from behind a security fence, the group collected signatures from supporters.
Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy recently set off a firestorm of controversy and created a national debate about gay rights.
Cathy confirmed more than $3 million in contributions conservation and anti-gay groups such as the Family Research Council.
Chick-Fil-A, which is closed on Sundays, has always maintained itself as a Christian business.
In a previous statement, UTPA officials said the school “was surprised and disappointed by the comments made by Chick-fil-A’s president,” and that it opposes “discrimination in any form."

And who did Dan Cathy “discriminate” against? I don’t think he turns away homosexual customers or job applicants, does he? From what I understand, he took some hard-earned money out of his own pocket and gave it to groups that promote the traditional family. PERIOD.

My husband and I ate at Chik-Fil-A on Saturday at the Mall and then went to see “2016”. There were lines to get to the chicken sandwiches - unlike any of the other food outlets. It was the first time my husband had Chik Fil-A and he liked it.
So far, it would appear that the sensible element in our society is winning this one.

@Forrestfire- It’s in the Valley (Texas); between McAllen &&& I’m not sure. There’s a whole string of towns going west from Mc. Rio Grande City is in there A very pleasant area (good road, fairly clean) about 12 years ago. DH had a claim at one of the colleges there. I’m not sure if it was this one.

That would be a tragic mistake. Being publicly traded would make Chick-fil-A vulnerable to a hostile takeover by the Gaystapo. The Cathy's know EXACTLY what they are doing.
