President Obama has joined the ranks of those calling for the First Amendment to be revised to allow the government to exert more control over political speech. The movement for amending this provision of the US Constitution stems from the Supreme Courts decision in the Citizens United case.
As it stands now, anyone can say pretty much whatever they want to about any candidate, Obama lamented. And if theyve got money to spend they can ensure that their views can be broadcast to virtually every voter. They can undermine the peoples trust in their government and breed disloyalty on a massive scale.
The president explained that though many have suggested I should implement the needed reform via Executive Order there is no assurance that the Supreme Court wouldnt overturn such an order just like they overturned the McCain-Feingold Act that established controls over election-oriented speech.
Backers of the proposed amendment say they hope to bring more structure to our electoral process. Ideally, there should be government oversight to ensure that access to the various media during the election season is restricted to the legitimate candidates, Obama said. Non-candidates shouldnt be allowed to sow confusion, particularly during this critical period. Those running for office have the right to be protected against ambush by people who lack the standing to enter the race themselves.

Structure is what elections are all about — at least the outcomes.
Didn’t seem to bother him in ‘08. Hypocrite.
;’)
I fear that an executive order will soon be published making this semi-satire, the law.
“Comprehensive” First Amendment “reform”.
I thought that oDumbo was a constitutional scholar??? The 1st Amendment was written specifically so that we can say anything about the government, and the 2nd Amendment was written so that we could change that government if they decide to stop us.
Obama said. Non-candidates shouldnt be allowed to sow confusion, particularly during this critical period.
How Hitler of him, however he would not have MSM to pimp his ideas.
2016 Obama’s America
Sheesh! I’m so expecting this current administration to do exactly what this article says that I completely missed the satire. Please excuse my previous reply.
Gotta read the source
Although the First Amendment has been perverted to also protect pornography, it still functions perfectly in protecting political speech. No amendment to the First Amendment is necessary!
Except when visiting the 57th State!
Since when in the History of these (Somewhat) United States has politics been anything other than a blood sport?
I’m cool with comedy and satire and such, but what I’ve seen of semi satire appears to be counterproductive
I feel that the old Truth in Advertising should apply to campaign ads. Of course, that will never happen.
You know it’s good satire when you can HEAR Obama’s voice as you are reading it.
Probably because it's so close to the truth that it is assumed it is the truth. AND often because it BECOMES the truth.
Consider it this way....
IF John were to switch sides... he would probably be the DNC CHAIR by now.
Or making semi-satire against the law.
Don't worry. You are now a member of a very large club.
