Posted on 09/06/2012 7:01:58 PM PDT by ConservativeInPA
I considered myself lucky in 1983 when I was going to college and I had a job to help pay for it. That job was managing a neighborhood pool and coaching their swim team. I lived in PA on the border of Delaware and rode my bike to work to save on gas. I thought Reagan would be great, but the economy had not turned around yet. There was still great doubt in those days as a conservative.
My doubt changed when I had the opportunity to meet Joe Biden. He was a congressman back then. He showed up at the league championship meet (for swimming) that summer. He was pressing the flesh with everyone he could get his paws on.
Biden came up to me and shook my hand. It was a fish. My first thought as a nineteen year old was this guy is a fag. I told him I was from PA, politely, and that I could not vote for him. He continued to talk to me and I thought this guy was a complete stupid shit.
Joe Biden is the poster child of the Peter Princilple.
“How does this align with Joe’s speech tonight? “
I don’t care! Great comment! And for the fourth time in 15 minutes,,,, my same comment;
“He’s an infected, suppurating butt wart!”
I met Bob Taft once and thought the exact same thing.
He asked an 18 year old girl in my unit if she served in the first Gulf War. This was in 1999. She was 10 years old during Desert Storm.
His middle name is Alphonso.
A complete tool...
... My friends, in the light of present-day developments let me say right away that I do not regard existing conditions likely. On the contrary, I have always regarded them as subjects of the gravest responsibility and shall ever continue to do so. Indeed, I will go further and state quite categorically that I am more than sensible of the (exact) definition of the precise issues which are at this very moment concerning us all. We must build, but we must build surely. Hear, hear! - Let me say just this: If any part of what I am saying is challenged, then I am more than ready to meet such a challenge. For I have no doubt whatsoever that whatever I may have said in the past, or what I am saying now, is the exact, literal and absolute truth as to the state (?) of the case. - Hear, hear! -I put it to you that this is not the time for vague promises of better things to come. For, if I were to convey to you a spirit of false optimism, then I should be neither fair to you nor true to myself. But does this mean, I hear you cry, that we can no longer look forward to the future that is to come? Certainly not! Voice from the audience: What about the workers? What about the workers?; indeed sir! Grasp, I beseech you, with both hands [Aside: Im so sorry, I beg your pardon, madam.] the opportunities that are offered. Let us assume a bold front and go forward together. Let us carry the fight [noise of a blow being struck] against ignorance to the four corners of the earth because it is a fight which concerns us all. Now, finally my friends, in conclusion, let me say just this:
1. Abject mediocrities whose ignorance and transparency was completely shocking to someone who expected so much more out of them.
2. Certifiably nuts, usually manifested by very short fuses, sociopathic behavior, and a complete detachment from reality.
I realize this is a small sample size to make judgements about elected officials, but that's my experience. To be honest with you, when I meet someone in one of those roles for the first time now, I have very low expectations of him.
I don’t think liberal DE sent Biden to the House, did they? He became a senator at age 30, same age as the popular EMK in MA.
I’ve met Joe and his handshake was firm as any other man and he was pretty dang’d funny.
Not that we will ever agree on issues...
I use toinow Jim Inhofe, Don Nickles and I run into Willie Brown occassionally when I’m having lunch at a certain restaurant in the city and i have had a completely different experience.
I know our current mayor and though we are in different parties, I find him pretty darn reasonable but, I liked him before he became mayir.
That said Ron Gonzales was always a great guy before he became mayor and was always friendly after he became mayor, even walking across restaurant floors to say hi but, he effed up royally and used the people of San Jose for his own very short sighted avarice.
Susan Hammer was always smart.
Bob Winters is a dear friend
Thom Mckenerey is always a jackass looking past you as he barely stays engaged in conversation if he will even talk to you.
Nancy Pelosi has always been gracious when I show up at fundraisers and even made sure I got the best cut of meat at an event and pretended to drink beer.
As I think of the many other politicians I’ve met from Arnold to the Kennedy’s I really can’t recall many I wouldn’t have a drink with..
Except Tom McHenry....still.
Gosh, that is the nicest thing ever said about Pelosi on FR.
Sorry. I’ve known her and a whole slew of others for years.
She always asks if I’ve finally been turned. We both laugh as I say “Never”, she shakes my hand, invites me to have a good time and make new friends.
Folk should not be surprised by this. Think about it: most career politicians were the kids in high school that sat on the bench for four years of football...and then told everyone in college they played for the championship team.
They were the goofs in student government.
They have not changed.
BTW! Tom McHenery is a prick. I don’t even bother saying hi anymore.
He’s a Republican.
Now that I think of it that prick from Delaware, no really as far as I’m comcerned a self serving Ahole, Mike Castle and that wench daughter or it might have even been his wife(can’t recall) they are in a class all themselves.
Well I see you gained your sanity back...hehehehe.
Just like you, I respect others views regardless of party. But Pelosi would definitely test my nerves.
I couldn’t care less if you think Pelosi was the Virgin Mary, she’s still a poison to this nation.
You’re not very good at this, really....
You are always going to find your view in opposotion to another’s and with good fences you can have good neighbors.
Besides, what good does it do if you refuse to even talk to your opposition? Like/dislike you are going mitigate, nuetralize or negotiate terms with people for the rest of your life.
Acknowledge it, engage and be better for at least having a say in the terms of our co-existence. You do not have the final word and they shouldn’t eitber except for your abject stubborness to engage.
Besidex, they may be in a position to help you one day or you may be in a position to help them....with terms.
Like I train salespeople: If you fail.to engage, the victory and terms will always be to your total disadvantage. As in you ceded a say so by mere absention and you deserve what you fight for and you deserve to lose if you won’t fight.
Pal, I’m better at this then you know. Want to know why? Because I used to be one of THEM! That’s right chum, I used to be a f’ing liberal! So don’t tell me what I’m good at. Pelosi is poison, I don’t give a rat whisker how nice you think she is.
Aileen Wuornos also was just a nice lady out for a good time she even let some guys live!
Pelosi Galore is a shrike and always will be.
You seem more angry than conservative. You sure you left that stuff behind?
Now that’s funny....
Actually I think Debbie Wasserman-Shultz and Aileen Wuornos were twins and separated at birth!
Pelosi Galore was probably their mother. Dad was James Carville, one of his nights of “dragging $100.00 bills through trailer parks”. He also got a 50% discount cause he was a Demonrat!
Sometimes humor may just be Non-fiction!
Keep your sense of humor and you will live longer. Bob Hope lived to be 100 years old!
Angry? Hah. Passionate is more the word. Although I get plenty steamed when the Libs and well-meaning but naive conservatives start that nonsense about playing nice with the liberals, the old ‘’common ground’’, ‘’bi-partisan ‘’ two-step foll dee roll. Whenever the Liberals are in a position of power they never talk about any of the crap. As I said I used to be one of them, I know how they think, what they truly think of conservatives and America and I don’t find anything gracious or charming about any of them, least of all that witch Pelosi. If you think I’m angry( really, you should have known when I drank and was a liberal if you want to see anger), you should see some of the things posted here by others in regard to Mrs. Pelosi. My apologies to you, sorry to have come off so, ah, strident.
