MILLER: Hide your guns - Democrats vow to pursue more gun-control laws
The Washington Times ^ | September 6, 2012 | Emily Miller

You didn’t hear the word “guns” voluntarily pass the lips of any Democratic speaker at this week’s convention in Charlotte, N.C. Liberals may be smart enough to avoid alienating the almost half of all Americans who have guns in their homes, but the same can’t be said for their party platform.

The Democratic policy statement approved this week calls for enacting “common-sense improvements — like reinstating the assault-weapons ban and closing the gun-show loophole.” The so-called “assault-weapons ban” in the 1990s banned scary-looking guns and magazines that held over 10 rounds. The platform does toss in a line that claims to recognize the right to bear arms, but it is “subject to reasonable regulation.” The left wants “an honest, open national conversation about firearms.”

I asked many Democratic leaders about the party’s position on firearms at the convention, but almost all claimed not to have read that section of the platform. Jesse Jackson was one of the few willing to come out and say he wants to ban all guns except bolt-action rifles, shotguns and revolvers.

“You have the right to have a gun in your castle to protect your house. You have the right to have a gun to hunt,” the reverend said in an interview in Charlotte. “Semi-automatic weapons — military-style weapons — are beyond the zone of reasonableness.” The civil-rights leader asserted, “These mass killings in Aurora and Milwaukee … we must end easy access and ban these assault weapons.” He added, “Twenty-five percent of all police are killed by assault weapons, and they cannot defend themselves from that.”

The District of Columbia has the most stringent gun laws in the country, requiring registration of every firearm while denying any right to carry...

Considering that I lost all my guns in a boat accident several years ago, I guess I have nothing to fear.

If you need to hide your firearms, it's time to use them.

That is a great bumper sticker. It’s time for Americans to start to focus again. Our freedoms and liberty are in jeopardy.

In a Socialist Country, there are those who make the rules, and those who obey the rules.

Politicians are a special class as they make the rules, but do not obey the rules.

Politicians selectively enforce the rules, as suits their purposes to keep on making rules.

BTW, what about the politicians who broke the rules with AG Holden’s Fast and Furious Gun-running to the Mexican Mafia? Any progress on enforcing those rules yet?

“Twenty-five percent of all police are killed by assault weapons, and they cannot defend themselves from that.”

What a disingenuous lie? Assault weapons according to JJ's definition means basically any semiautomatic firearm with a removable clip.

Basically Jackson is saying "25% of police killed in the 20th and 21st centuries are being killed by 20th and 21st century technology." Brilliant.

Why doesn't JJ lead the way and begin by calling for all blacks to disarm themselves voluntarily? Hey, you gotta start somewhere. Let's see some leadership from the black community!

Our freedoms and liberty are in jeopardy.

Only as long as there is a Congress, and they are in session.

I can't count the freedoms that have been declared forbidden since I started noticing back in the '60s/'70s.

I envy my great-grandfather the freedoms he had back in the late 1800s.

Isn't it amazing that all their other laws were proclaimed "reasonable and common-sense" until the predicted failure occurs, and then they want more "reasonable and common-sense" laws? Do they admit the earlier ones were failures in every way? Noooo, they just keep trying to double-down.

Since all of their proposals are so reasonable, why continue to that incremental approach. Just propose an unreasonable law, and be done with it? The tightest gun control exists on American military bases, so just ban guns for everyone else, especially police, private security, and all those federal alphabet agencies.

Since they're betting my life on their ideas, I want to see them to go first. Since DC is a federal enclave, they can safely ignore the Supreme Court, which they often do, and just ban all guns there. For security, they can copy our defenses on the Mexican border, and have a couple of cops at each major crossing point inspecting all vehicles going in and out.

We could check back in about a month, and see how things are working out before we go big-time. /s

The only people I know that have the “assault weapons” are the government jack booted thugs. We don’t.

All that would happen is that revolver cylinders would get larger.

More people die from doctor/nurse mistakes than gun wounds each year. Let’s have the democrats ban hospitals first if they really want to be consistent.

But docs help more than they hurt.

And guns help way more than they hurt too. 92% of gun uses for defense each year are just shown, and not fired.
