That picture of the remarkable statue was taken by me not long ago. It is prominently displayed at St. Ephrem's R.C. Church, about a mile or so from where I live in Brooklyn, an area with traditional values and a long memory.

To be honest, I was quite surprised to see September 11th falling on a Tuesday this year- man, I gotta check the calendar more closely and often!

That's the day of the show, when it is broadcast terrestrially over the airwaves.

And those airwaves fell silent for months after Sept. 11, 2001 because our transmitter, like so many others, was atop the fallen World Trade Center.

But sometimes hastily assembled shows turn out very well.

But sometimes hastily assembled shows turn out very well. I hope that is the case here.

In this Part One, I decided to go right into a couple of things to start the show, because they seemed so much better than anything I could have said to begin.

Following that, it was time to at least acknowledge the aggression I always feel on this day, with songs that in a way share that feeling inside me...probably not the intention at all of the songwriters.

It is a balancing act that I juggle each year providing you with a thoughtful show or shows for 9/11, all the while dealing with and attempting to hide the seething anger that comes with this still sensitive subject and day.

And talking about things, along with music to soothe the savage beast, can sometimes help in that department.

Fort Hamilton Parkway. I used to pass it when I lived in Dyker Heights.

Thanks!

I was trying to post the image-I took the same picture a few years ago. Back when I still lived in Brooklyn.
