“Hobbes and Bacon” is a “Calvin and Hobbes” tribute that takes place 26 years later. I had nothing to with creating these cartoons – I am merely posting them here so that you can see them. There are four – and only four – but that’s enough to get the message across. You can see larger versions of the images by clicking twice on each image:

Calvin was named after John Calvin, Hobbes after Thomas Hobbes, so I am guessing Bacon is Francis Bacon.

We came this close || to naming our second born Calvin. Went with Elliot (had a family antecedent). 18 years later I’m still second guessing myself.

Sweet, and kind of sad.
I’m actually Calvin’s mother. He’s 18 now. Not much has changed since he was six, except that he’s now huge and has all these muscles everywhere, and his wild blond hair has been shaved high and tight. He still has a fabulous talent for getting in trouble and a crazy attitude. He just joined the US Marines so he can break things and blow stuff up without having me get mad at him.

Yeah, me, too. I always laughed at that strip. One of my favorites is the frame where Calvin is running with a fire extinguisher saying, “Dad says there’s nothing like a roaring fire, but I don’t know!” or somesuch.
And the snowmen were inspirational.

Indeed. Greatest cartoon ever and my all time favorite.Don't be exclusive:
Pogo Possum,
Tumbleweeds,
Li'l Abner,
Opus/Bloom County,
Sherman's Lagoon,
Howard the Duck,
(current) Day by Day...
Cartoons can come closer to reality than most of the news.
PS: I omitted Malard Filmore because it is overtly political,
And I omitted Junkwaffle and Cheech Wizard because they fall totally outside polite society, talented and funny, but weird.

This is a nice tribute. Thanks for posting it. Brings back some happy memories.
Calvin and Hobbes was my all-time favorite cartoon strip. Tied for first with the Far Side, which was a single-panel cartoon. Both unbelievably consistent with their quality over a long period of time.

Zita the Space Girl IS awesome and without bathroom type humor which I hate in modern children’s comics/movies etc. Plus the author/illustrator has 4 little girls himself and named the main character after one of them...good guy.

I read all the Calvin and Hobbes books to my son at bedtime.... many, many, many, many times over (and over and over)!! It got so he could recite each ending before I got there, and we make C&H jokes all the time.
Now, he's "too old" for "that kind of stuff". But I'll always have the memories.

Wow. I'm the other surviving Cheech Wizard fan. Vaughn Bode was brilliant but his was a very silly and self-destructive end.
Calvin and Hobbes, however, was in a class of its own. And this is a very sweet tribute. 26 years. I'm feeling kind of old.
