Opinion: Choosing Chick-fil-A sandwich over human rights is wrong (Spew-tastic)
Pegasus News / The SMU Daily Campus ^ | September 21, 2012 | Tim Welch, The Daily Campus

Posted on 09/22/2012 12:10:34 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

DALLAS — Until Wednesday, SMU’s SPECTRUM was planning on launching a 13-week boycott of the on-campus Chick-fil-A. As a member, I intended on participating in the boycott.

However, on Wednesday morning, the company announced that it has stopped donating money to anti-gay hate groups, such as the Family Research Council and Exodus International. The donations were the cause of the LGBT community’s ire this summer.

Chick-fil-A also issued a “Who We Are” internal memo declaring that its company tradition “is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.”

Obviously, this means that we succeeded. The LGBT community won this particular battle against institutionalized corporate bigotry by taking a firm and public stand against it. We won by educating our friends, recruiting our allies, and raising awareness. The nation-wide boycott of Chick-fil-A was a good idea, and it worked.

Now, in the wake of these events, we must reflect and consider how – and if – history will remember the past few months.

I fully supported the boycott effort. When Dan Cathy’s statements about marriage equality went public, I didn’t think much of it; in fact I thought, of course – they’re a “Christian” company. Although soon after, the fact that Chick-fil-a donated millions to hate groups who support conversion therapy and the criminalization of homosexuality was publicized, and I was overcome with anger.

“Who died and made Chick-fil-A arbiter of the will of the Almighty?” I asked myself.

I was further enraged when conservative hotheads Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin downplayed the issue at hand as a free speech debate and launched the infamous Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.

How demeaning, indeed, to obfuscate the facts of the issue, and advocate a company that financially supports the attempted subjugation of a minority.

Moreover, I felt alienated and betrayed when a friend or family member chose a sandwich over me. I felt pretty worthless to find out my value as a human being was less than $6 – the cost of a combo meal.

Honestly, I didn’t have very high expectations of Spectrum’s boycott at this predominately red university in this predominately red state. I figured we would bring attention to an ignorant and indifferent student population, and I’d feel like I was being proactive. I would have considered changing one opinion a phenomenal success.

So when someone said to me that this intended boycott was “pointless and petty,” I knew it wasn’t. It is never pointless and petty to voice one’s opinion in a public forum. That’s the point of democracy. I respect this right for everyone. I even had a civil conversation with the religious protesters at Pride this past Sunday.

I understand that many people just weren’t as passionate about this issue as I was – and that’s their choice. Not everyone can be a bleeding heart.

What I want everyone to know is that gay people are simply people trying to live their lives as completely as anyone else. And no one – neither Chick-fil-A, nor any other group or individual – has a right to impede that.

There is no “human right” to force other people to approve of sodomy.

That’s all “gay marriage” is: A demand that mainstream society approve of a practice that is filthy and contrary to nature.

What a narcissist. Agreeing with Christ’s view of marriage in Matthew 19:4-6 and appreciating Chick-Fill-A has nothing to do with this person. I bet this person is most likely a pro-abort who has no trouble with the preborn child being stripped of his or her right to life. The only things homosexual persons are being denied in our nation is the “right” to have the government increase its involvement in their personal lives and the “right” to persecute Christians and others who disagree with them.

Exactly. Homosexual persons have all the negative rights(the list of things the government cannot do to its citizens) that everyone else does. What they want are so-called “positive rights” which always result in taking away the negative rights of another.

Bullcr@p! You SHOVE your sin into our faces on a daily basis. You DEMAND your sin have "rights".

We are ALL sinners. The HUGH & SERIES difference between you and us.....we DON'T take pride in our sin. We don't have PRIDE PARADES for our sins, whether homo or proud sluts.

Instead, we ask forgiveness for our sins and try not to repeat them (some very hard to do, but we keep trying). Perhaps we may not make the same sin again and again, but we will make new ones. That is our nature.

Once again.....WE DO NOT TAKE PRIDE IN OUR SINS AND HAVE PARADES FOR THEM. You are nothing but a sick bunch of demonic a$$holes who spit in His face whenever you get an opportunity.

YOU ARE THE ENEMY. PERIOD, END OF STORY.

You are worth less than a 6 combo meal:

http://www.jswami.info/worth

When people were told they were worth only 98 cents they were shocked,” Dr. Monsen said. “They feel better knowing they are $5.60.” But if we can free ourselves from bodily designations, understand that we’re not these bodies at all, and recognize who we really are there’s no limit to how much better we shall feel.

Hint:

Gay marriage is NOT a “right”!

It is a bastardization of a sacred union, between one man and one woman.
Primarily, it is an attempt to mainstream deviant behavior, and force the rest of the world to endorse it.

Listen, you twisted deviant, you can whine and play the victim all you want, but you're nothing but a mentally-diseased pervert who desperately wants approval of your sick acts so that you can feel better about yourself. And for the record, the only thing that's "demeaning" is two men messing with each other's filthy anal area and calling it love or marriage.

****

When SMU’s student association officially recognized its first gay and lesbian group (with funding) 20 years ago, it was evident then that the concept of “equality” meant political correctness run amuck.

according to the homasexulists, it’s perfectly OK for a private business to put up a sign in their window proudly denying to me my right to self defense by prohibiting the carrying of concealed weapons; however, if that same business were to do so much as quietly show its support for groups that oppose homosexuality, these same homasexulists do everything short of declaring open war on them for being “violators of human rights”. It seems like a double standard to me which isn’t at all surprising but still worth pointing out. So, to put it all in perspective, the right of gay men to toss each other’s salads is sacrosanct now but the right to defend yourself against violent criminals is some kind of abomination. What the hell is wrong with this country?

If their idea of supporting human rights is to not buy a sandwhich from Chick-Fil-A they are some pretty sad individuals.

Maybe they should re-focus on female’s rights under Islam, Gay’s rights under Islam, other religion’s rights under islam, etc, etc, etc.

But no, they take the easy route.

Homos can self-actualize with civil unions. Traditional marriage is a God ordained institution. It doesn't need to be changed to please secular humanists.

Also what the hell is htis thing called a hate group, the only hate I see is by homosexuals who use NAZI thuggery to go after people, even a cake maker, a baker, a photographer, ice cream store

They mock, they attack, they boycott, they protest, they sue etc.and when all that does not work they get a job at that place and ten act up to get fired so they can sue again and claim discrimination.

Also we’re talking about people who like to get off in a very unhealthy unnatural way and because of how they have their sex they think they should be given special rights.

frigging sick perverts plain and simple

Oh, brother. I’m suddenly reminded of the guy in charge of the gay student group on my campus back in college. He e proclaimed a particular day one week “wear blue jeans in support of LGBT rights day”, and the fact that a lot of college students actually wore blue jeans (imagine that, kids wearing jeans at a midwestern college in the middle of farm country) “proved” that he succeeded in drumming up support for gay rights on campus.

I tend to be libertarian here, so I do get into trouble at times, more like the Barry Goldwater type (I am very pro-life though, without life, there is no liberty) and/or Robert A. Heinlein/L. Neil Smith, I'm into science fiction a bit. I personally resolved this is the best solution and/or compromise, get government out of marriage altogether and leave it to the religious institutions along with the people themselves. The only time government should be involved is if there are cases where you have to determine who is responsible for whom in cases like who is responsible for the kids and if one is incapacitated, the other partner can speak up and make decisions such as in the case of medical emergencies. Basically it is a money grab for tax breaks and insurance plans of all types. The best way is to make insurance plans al la carte and have a flat tax.

I'm glad to see Chik-Fil-A stand up although I'm not sure if they are caving now or not, but they have the right to conduct their business like anyone else. I have a good friend who is gay and considers himself married to his partner and if I was with them and didn't want to eat there, I'd respect their opinion, but everyone does have a right to that but to force it through government edict is wrong. don't care who sleeps with who, as long as both (or all partners) are at or above the age of consent, keep it private and if anything bad happens and/or they "fall down," be held responsible and accountable for themselves. I just believe what is in the bedroom should stay there.

I'm to the point where maybe fighting tooth and nail is a waste of limited time and resources. Our nation is in extreme peril and we are in danger of collapsing economically and militarily, if that happens, these debates will be moot. So here, I decided to choose the Oriental strategy of falling back and let the opponent's strength go against him and it will eventually. Also it is the job of each of us to teach our morals and ethics to our families and live up to them, not the governments. Even if some differ, that's the way it is. People are going to do what they are going to do, the key here is to hold them responsible and accountable for their actions and to teach that as well, there are times you have to let go and let real life and tough love take over. Freedom and liberty does have its warts but I'd take it over anything else.
