Letter: Sun lavishes attention on bumbling 'Occupy,' ignores effective tea party
The Baltimore Sun ^ | September 23, 2012 | Stephen L. Sewell

Posted on 09/24/2012 1:32:23 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Let me get this straight: a spontaneous movement arises and takes up the name "Tea Party" based on historical actions and the acronym "taxed enough already," amasses a very large number of either followers or sympathizers, and literally reverses the party breakdown in the U.S. House of Representatives and state-level assemblies, but it is not worth receiving any reporting. When it is reported upon, the items are buried deep within the pages of The Sun and are usually flippant or derogatory in nature. Adherents are perceived as backward, ignorant, uneducated and subject to every epithet that can be used in the open press: bigoted, homophobic, sexist, religious zealots, etc. Every unfortunate incident, especially gun crimes in other than inner city locales, is ascribed to them. And yet the actual mien of these people is honest, law abiding, respectful, and willing to follow the law at every turn.

On the other hand, the "Occupy Wall Street" movement is something of a throwback. Representing what appears to be a collection of 1960s radicals, unemployed people whose choice of educational study did not pan out and now are deep in debt, strident progressive activists who want guaranteed "cradle to grave" security, and a mixture of anarchists, nihilists, and even a few homeless who see the "movement" as a quick way to get some shelter and better quality food...

Of course we do. The aging failed hippies from the 60s who stumbled into “journalism” recognize kindred souls a half century later. Losers all.

Excellent letter to Sun’s “Reader’s Respond” section. I just hope that the guy who wrote this most excellent letter is not still paying the Sun for a subscription!

We need to all cancel subscriptions and put these newspapers out of business. I cancelled the Atlanta Journal Constitution long ago.

Let them ignore us. We are flying below the radar anyway. We don’t need tambourines. When we strike, they won’t know what hit them.

“The aging failed hippies from the 60s who stumbled into “journalism” recognize kindred souls a half century later. Losers all.”

That bears repeating. “Occupy” is summed up by the grossly obese “Code Pink” woman, dressed in garish pink, sitting in the lawn chair with her huge belly dragging almost down to the ground. I doubt she went to Egypt with the rest of the “Code Pink” women when they were there ginning up the protesters; airplane seats weren’t big enough. These are spoiled brats who have never had to face reality and, due to food stamps, have way too much time on their hands in order to organize and demonstrate. Getting HUNGRY is a great motivator to shut up and get crackin’.
