FR Opinion Poll: Is Gary Johnson Going To Cost Romney The Election?
Self/Vanity | 9/24/2012

Posted on 09/24/2012 12:29:02 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

I wanted to get the current opinion of Freepers on whether or not they believe Gary Johnson will cost Mitt Romney the election?

I am asking this because I have been seeing more and more polls as well as interest on Facebook and Twitter about Gary getting the Ron Paul voters and Independents to swing his way. A lot of them are from the legalize crowd and the others are from the Alex Jones wing.

Recent polls in Montana show Johnson picking up 2% of the vote, in places like Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada he is picking up around 3 to 5% of the vote in polls.

Romney looks like he is gonna need those 3 to 5% in those exact states to beat Obama and Johnson appears to be ready to make it impossible for him to get it. Since 1% of Dems break away to Johnson and the other 2,3,4% come from Republicans.

Thoughts?

Johnson is a big hit with the potheads. That would probably cost Obama and Ron Paul more votes than it would Romney.

Stop blaming others for Romney ABSENCE.

Romney should be SCREAMING CONSERVATIVE OPINIONS DAILY.
but he is absent collecting money.

Romney’s liberal beliefs and his belief that he
is ENTITLED are his biggest problems.

Gary who? Never heard of this guy until today and this post. Well, the lame-streams had better get busy! They need to work hard to make this guy the next Perot!

Watch for lame-stream stories about this guy asap. Wouldn’t even be surprised if he gets a chair at one of the debates like Perot did...

No, because those who vote for Johnson likely would have left the ballot blank for the presidential race rather than vote for either of other two.

I really don’t know. There will always be some fringe conservatives who will vote 3rd pty or stay home for whatever reason. Can’t reason with those people. We need to focus on things we can effect

I have given up on the RINOs, the country club big-spending ‘pubbies, won’t vote for Gary Johnson because he thinks gay marriage is a Constitutional right. Where to go? I think we need a new party - something akin to the Anti-federalists - they WERE right.

I saw today where he is suing to get included in the debates.

Johnson is a crackpot on social and foreign policy issues. Anyone who says Iran is no threat to the United States because of “muutally assured destruction” should probably not be within 10 miles of the White House.

Show me which polls predicted 2010 election results.
2012 will be worse for democrats than 2010 was because everything is worse now than 2 years ago.

Gary Johnson will be a small pimple on a large elephants azz.
He won’t affect the coming landslide for Romney.

Who is Gary Johnson?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He’s a Ron Paul Wanna-be. He’s a dip-wad libertarian complete with crack-pot ideals about surrendering in the WOD, and who believes 9/11 was an inside job among other things.
In other words... A Liberal.
One of my friends, who was for Ron Paul, is voting for Johnson. He would otherwise vote for Obama.
Assuming Romney truly wants to win the race it is his job to develop a compelling message and persuade enough voters to vote for him such that he wins 270 electoral votes. If the 1-2% Johnson or other third party candidates realize makes the difference in the election, it says Romney does not have a message compelling enough to a majority of voters. No different than the Nader votes in the 2000 election swinging the popular vote in Florida from Gore to Bush.
This election should be a cakewalk for the Republicans. The fact it is close speaks to a weak candidate and absence of a differentiated message. The Republicans have played defense throughout the campaign and allowed the opposition to define the campaign. Romney spent the last few weeks raising cash instead of talking to the votes. He has elected not to use the Tea Party organizations or conservative big names (Palin, Gingrich, Cain, Perry) on the campaign trail. If Romney loses, the last person Republicans should blame is Gary Johnson, no matter how many votes Johnson tallies.
Romney is running this campaign the way he wants to run it. Moderate and safe. If he wins he can take credit and feel no obligation to the conservative wing of the party. If he loses, he lost on his merits. Win or lose, conservatives should determine if they really have a home in the Republican Party.
