Golfing legend Jack Nicklaus will seek to help Mitt Romney stay on par in his quest for the White House, as he campaigns with the Republican nominee on Wednesday in Ohio.
Beginning on Tuesday, Romney will spend two days on a bus tour in the battleground Midwestern state, refocusing his efforts on retail campaigning in the six weeks before the November 6 presidential election.
Romney routinely brings surrogates on the road with him, but an icon like Nicklaus, who holds the record for most major golf tournament victories and is widely regarded as the greatest golfer ever, adds sporting star power to the campaign.
Ohio native Nicklaus, 72, will join Romney at a victory rally in Westerville, a suburb of Columbus, early on Wednesday. Romney holds two more events that day, including a round-table with business leaders in Bedford Heights near Cleveland, followed by a rally in Toledo....

Not in Ohio, but I don’t see how a forgotten champion of an elitist sport is going to help him shed the perception that he’s an out of touch billionaire. Besides given Obama’s numerous golf holidays, I’d distance myself from the sport if I were him.

Golf is no longer considered and elitist sport and Jack Nicklaus id recognized around the world as a philanthropist, a man of genuine honor and a world class citizen and humanitarian.
So he should tour with hip-hop, grunge metal, reality show and infomercial stars? I, for one, look forward to an adult, classy president again.
When I was stationed at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis awaiting orders for overseas, I was tasked with driving patients in a van from the post clinic to the base hospital at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Usually spent the Force Museum there. Great displays!
GW did alright with a host of country acts. I personally, don’t really believe that’s music, but the association accomplished it’s campaign goal.

No. What helps is that the Rs are hugely overperforming in absentees SO FAR (always have to qualify) and that the Ds are HUGELY underperforming SO FAR.
Years ago, I was watching the Golf Channel and it was some Fedex tourney when one of the commentators said “he lives in Orlando with the rest of fellow golfers..”
The other announcer said (I think it was Feherty), ‘Of course, Florida has one of the best tax rates plus, all of these guys are all Republicans..”
I was floored when I heard that.
