about half way thru. would have to rate it a must read so far. well written, some spots are really heart pounding.
Please let us know when you get to the part where Seal Team 6 Leader President Obama fast-ropes in and double-taps Osama Bin Laden in the noggin, then extracts two of his fallen shipmates with a STABO rig.
ok, will do.
one thing, i wasn’t aware how much these guys use the combat dogs, they are really a key part of the team. they go down the ropes and everything.
Bump for later.
I read the whole thing last Thursday. Spoke to a retired seal friend this AM at the gym. He says controvesy over the book is all political. Seals behind this guy almost 100% My guy was Team 6 memember. BTW — looks like a librarian.
2/3 through and I left it on a table in a restaurant.
I met a Team 6 member a couple years ago. He looked young for his age and no scars. He has 9 Purple Hearts! Makes 0 look kinda useless.
The second half is better than the first.
I had the honor of working with multiple SpecOps ground elements 1976 1990. Most of them dont look the part until they get their mission briefs. And then, they become the most focused people you will ever meet, anywhere, any time.
Most of the actors used by Hollywood are the direct opposite of a true Team member. In fact even Hollywoods stunt men dont measure up when it comes down to the real world of SpecOps.
Me, I have been a proud COIN (Counter Insurgency) carrier since I volunteered for it in 1975. My work was in their direct air support efforts. Spectre Gunships are among the teams favorite aircraft because it gives them what they want, where they want and when they want unlike most of the close air support platforms available.
finished the book, wow what a read.
they never do explain how come the helicopter crashed, but talk about cool action. they basically shook off the crash and went about the job.
i thought the big hero, that i hadnt heard about before, was the CIA analyst Jen. she was awesome. 5 years on osama’s trail.
I am on page 79 and am enjoying it. I like the way its written. Easy reading. Can’t see where he is giving away any secrets. I’ll probably knock it out this weekend.
Two things were immediately obvious to me.
1. I personally don't know anyone capable of making his team. Not myself, ever, and not any of the men I used to work with, and hold in extremely high regard.
2. No classified information was released by this author and his ghostwriter.
My copy is now making the rounds, and it will be a few days before I can double check a few dates. I'm going to guess he didn't decide to write this book untill sometime after August 6, 2011. Extortion 17 mission, downed with what I would bet were many recent former colleagues.
didnt get that one, what were you trying to say? whats Extortion 17?
whats Extortion 17?
Call sign of the helicopter that crashed with all the SEALs aboard. Google it to find a tribute page.
